In this video I will go over the basic steps for using a Shot Plate and how to avoid getting your silver ball stuck in the impression. I am specifically working with the Tucker Tool Shot Plate, however, there are many different options available on the market to choose from!

Great idea, adding 3-in-1 oil to your shot plate before hammering your silver ball in! That’s a game changer for me! I’ll be using my shot plate a lot more often, thanks to you! ☺️

Great video. I’m going to try this. I thought I could only use my shot plate with a hydraulic press. I’m definitely giving this a try!

Thank you for sharing your artistry. Turquoise ring with embellishments came out beautifully. What were you using the arbor press for in the intro? It looks interesting. Can you please make a video on this?

Oh yes definitely! I am using that hydraulic press for an impression die!! I actually got that press from harbor freight for fairly cheap…I believe like $90-100! And it works great for me!😊 People say you can use a hammer with an impression die but it requires a lot of muscle….

I loved your video! Now I’ll get out my shot plate again. Do you use alcohol to remove the oil? Thank you.

Do you use .025 or fine silver to make the balls that you use on the pieces as embellishments. And which do you use for the stars ? Thanks!
@SpiritMountainSilver
@SpiritMountainSilver 2 года назад
Both! .925 can be a little more difficult to get a perfectly smooth, round ball. I usually just use whatever scrap metal I have available for both the silver balls and the star embellishments!

Hmm I would check out Etsy.com They have a bunch of great shot plates available on there that ship internationally! They don't have the Tucker Tool Shot Plate brand, but the knock offs on there work just as great!

Hello! It looks as though you are making those shots with not many hammer strikes (and not even big heavy hammer strikes). I'm so perplexed as to how! I just got a shot plate and it's a grueling process where it slides around, and takes countless really strong strikes to make them. Circles are easier but the irregular shapes are nearly impossible. 🥲
@SpiritMountainSilver
@SpiritMountainSilver 2 года назад
Hi there! My hammer is about 5lbs so it has a decent strike. Small impressions are definitely easier and I can get a crisp impression with about 2 good strikes, however, larger impressions with irregular shapes definitely takes more muscle and time!
