Unravel the mystery of tape measure markings with our comprehensive tutorial on "How to Read a Tape Measure." Have you ever wondered what all those little lines signify? This video analyzes a standard U.S. tape measure, breaking down the meaning of inch lines, 1/2", 1/4", 1/8", and 1/16" markings.
Can you find the slip? I goofed and switched to fractions. Please share in the comments when find it.
Moreover, we address a common query: "Why is the hook on the end of my tape measure loose?" By the end of this video, you'll have an answer to this question and gain proficiency in reading a tape measure in inches and feet.
For more insights into technical theater and related topics, visit our website at www.stageseminars.com.
To apply your newfound measuring skills, check out a project we've designed: "Power Tool Project; Chop Saw." Learn how to make a miter cut on the chop saw here: • Video

I'm a 65 year old, when I was growing up in 1960s, people didn't show little girls much about tools, but my father was nice enough to show me how to use the tape measure, for which I'm very grateful for, but before he got into teaching fractions, Having bad alcoholism, he left the family, he died a few years later when I was a teenager, theres really no place I could go to finish learning tape measure fractions. I'm a homeowner and I have to do a lot of things around here by myself, so I bought myself tools. Not everyone has the benefit of a father around, I certainly didn't growing up. The fact that this is free, easily available, that you explain this in such an understandable way, has really been a blessing to me, Long Time coming, trying to figure out for 58 years how I was going to learn to read the rest of the tape measure. You are truly an amazing gift from God, for me. I am serious and thank you for the bottom of my heart ❤️. Senior Nancy in Iowa.

I learned when I was a kid, Via my mothers Whipping belt. I eventually learned if I took off 7/16 of an inch from her belt that it could not reach me when I slid under the bed and her arm's length was maxed out. I just stood there screaming and crying pretending the belt reached. That's how I learned to measure. Subscribe and share your story. Thanks for sharing :o)

Funniest way I ever seen someone teach another person how to read a tape measure was a guy who taught some stoner how to read a tape. Dude started out clueless. Supervisor asked if he ever sold or bought weed and the guy hesitantly responded and said yes. Supervisor told him just like selling lbs of weed. Broke down into full, halfs, quarters, eights and so on. Dude was in shock at first but after thinking about it and looking at a tape he had it down quick as shit. Funny as hell to witness

I learned to measure in school around age 8. Being part of human society and accepting all others we live with no matter their background, heritage, or self idenfintion is a topic of continued learning and understanding. Studying the history of all topics of human nature is vital to all. At its root, knowledge of how our ancestors treated each other and how we interface with each other now can not be ignored.

When I was dating my first wife she had two kids a boy and girl age 7 and 10 the boy was 10 and we had bought him a used mini bike for his 11th birthday. After a week of riding it it got a flat tire and I went to get one for it on my way home. Trying to build a good relationship with him, I had his mom put him on the phone and go get the dimensions of the tire. well it didn’t have a size on it so I asked him to measure it with my tape measure. I found out the hard way that not only did he have no idea what a tape was for but couldn’t even read a ruler…in 4th grade and the school had not been able to teach even the most basic abilities of math and measurements. I finally got the dimensions I needed but it was a frustrating 15 min that I realized I needed to correct quickly if this kid was to live a productive life as an adult. We began tutoring them both in math and reading making up the deficit the public school created. Reading a tape measure and or a ruler is critical to most things in life

Zonell Washington Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was helpful. One of my most rewarding moments while teaching was when a 7th grade young lady shared with me her joy when she showed her dad that she could use the saber saw she learned in class. He was very proud and I think it opened a new line of activities for them.

when comparing to Metric system of measurement what is the benefit of foot and inches systems
@franciscoalmodovar3868
@franciscoalmodovar3868 2 года назад
Because with feet and inches, everything doesn’t have to be 0.972 Or 1.937 meter.
@tyronevaldez-kruger5313
@tyronevaldez-kruger5313 2 года назад
@@franciscoalmodovar3868 That's not really a benefit if you compare it just from the imperial system's pov. Convert meter and centimetre into imperial system and you'll get exact numbers either.

No benifit. Just different. Some thing one is easier and others think the other way around. Metric does tend to be more precise with less fractional math.

You're welcome. Thanks for watching. It's funny how many people think the tape measure can't be accurate due to the end wobbiley thing part. (a highly technical term. I love it.)

You're welcome! Gumption. It's surprising how many people sell themselves even though they might be missing the basics. Although, I've also worked with some amazingly artistic woodworkers who arrive at great solutions in, shall we say, different methods. However, following technical drawings and plans does require tape measures. :-) Thanks for your kind words. SP

Metric is more accurate and superior to SAE because all of your calculations are quicker/easier and in whole numbers as opposed to fractions Especially when you compare metres & millimetres compared to feet & inches.
