You know you have done a service when a million people watched your teaching and some of them understood it after many years of not totally getting it. Thanks for your contribution Dr. Dixon.
I hope u are r teacher. As a man who has ADHD that was explain perfectly. If people just took the time to explain it the way the individual learns it.....not everyone e learns the same way at the same pace. so much easier great video you truly are helping people
@@moneymike4017 I have ADHD also. Math was never my strong suite, but many of job positions in my area require that you read a tape measure and be accurate with depth perception and use other equipment and such. So I am learning so that I can do it. It's preventing me from moving upward in life and obtaining better employment. But now that I am learning it's helping myself confidence and my ability to know that I can do it.
I remember my father trying to explain how to read a tale measure when I was just a young boy and he had me in tears and screaming at me what a dummy I was for not getting it , I’m in my 70’s now if he would have just explained it how this lady did I wouldn’t have felt like a idiot he made me out to be Oh well I survived they just didn’t have the patience to teach back then all my homework ended in yelling and tears ; Thank God for the internet and u tube you can learn many things from these channels.
Travis Dunne no one asked for your negative comment just be quiet and keep to your self. This comment was posted a year ago and ur responding your the dumb head.
Almost 22 here and as embarrassing as it is, I never got it at school and I was made to feel stupid when I asked, so here I am learning more in RU-vid than I ever did in a classroom. Thank you so much lady I won’t feel intimidated by a tape measure ever again 🙏❤️
Thank you for explaining this so clearly to me I will definitely save your video .I am 54 years old and no one ever taught me to read a tape measure .I have been taking sewing lessons for 4 years and I struggle with reading the tape measure you have opened a whole new world for me thank you Dr,Dixon
Thank you Dr. Dixon! That was truly the best explanation of a tape measure ever. I went to Home Depot today and the young lady asked me for my measurements for the project I wanted to do, and I felt bad that I couldn't tell her. So, me being a humble honest man I told her I did not know how to use a tape measurer and she recommended your video on RU-vid! I said I was not going to die and not know how to use a tape measure. So, I came home and in twenty minutes I understood what I had been avoiding for over 35 years! I watched a couple of others that were difficult, disjointed and confusing. I came back and watched yours again and realized I really understood it better because of your break down! Thanx
I know this is an old video, please don't ever delete it. This is the best video I have watched with fully clear and easy to understand explanation. I'm currently studying for my Air Brakes License to become a Long Haul Truck Driver and the Practical exam requires you to do an Air Brake adjustment measurement for the pushrod stroke, in order to pass your test you need to be able to know how to read a measuring tape or A ruler. Your video is so helpful I'm going to keep watching it over and over, until I learn how to read a measuring tape correctly before I take my Air Brakes exam test.
Likewise, at 50 years of age, this is the very first time I get this explained so plain and clear! I went to school in South America and didn't even learn how to read tape measures in the metric system, much less here in the imperial system!! Very well done, now I can even teach it to someone else :) Thank you!
I have had several people try to teach me how to learn how to work a measuring tape and you did it in one day, I am 50 years old and you teaching me how to read a measuring tape will help me with all my projects and I don’t have to wait for someone to come and help me. Thank you 😊 🙏🏽
I’ve never really needed to read a ruler or a tape measure until I started my own digital printable Etsy store. I had no idea what I was doing and was so confused because as an Indian I was taught to measure in the metric system and I cater to mostly an American audience who use the imperial system and it made things so much harder for me to convert the measurements into. But now I can finally say that I am fluent in both. Thank you so much. If only my dang teachers had the same teaching style, I’d be a rocket scientist.
I can't believe I'm a college graduate --and now a retired senior-- who just now learned how to read "the little lines" on the ruler! I can't decide if I should be proud of myself for learning something new or ashamed I hadn't learned it before. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks! Thank you for teaching me something new.
IrishVault 0017 uhm I think it’s mandatory for every human to learn measurements and math.... I mean, it’s kinda hard not to learn basic stuff like changing tires, learning to use tools fix your car ect.
I love your method of explaining this. After reading all the comments I don’t feel bad anymore. I thought I was the only one at 53 years old that didn’t fully get how to read the measurements on a tape measure. Thank you for making this video.
Extremely useful, of all the video's this was most useful. In short all u need to do ur life more simple is to remember the "golden rule" i.e. "1/16". and go on counting every line like 1/16, 2/16, 3/16, 4/16....... Then use ur math (division) e.g. 2/16 = 1/8'' or 4/16 = 1/4''. Dr. Dixon that was extremely useful.
No doubt, and to avoid confusion with the first foot of the tape that is in 32nds, use the fraction rule to get matching length for 16s,-say something is 4 and 7/16", converted, equals 4 and 14/32". You look on the tape and its exact same length
Yes. Then reduce until you get an odd number in the numerator. Her example of 12/16 shows why 11/16 and 13/16 are on each side. We just call them by the reduced name always. :-)
I copied this and put it in my pocket for my first day of work little cheat sheet but hey it will help me learn as I go and eventually won't need it best tutorial ever can't thank you enough
SAME. I have a custom framing position I somehow talked my way into and I lied about knowing how to use a ruler 😭😭😭😭 Thank God for this. I totally printed it out
I'm 40 years old and just learned through you how to read a tape measure, so I can order some blinds... A MILLION THANK YOUS!! Now, I'm going to teach my two teens before I forget. Lol. Thank you again 💓
This is fantastic! I’m 45 and just got this today using your video. I’m getting back into sewing after a long time and this has really helped. I can now also help my young sons understand tape measurement. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I'm 21 years old and never got this down in school. My teachers didn't really go over this very long nor did they go over it very well. And then I never used a ruler consistently untill today. I cannot thank u enough. God bless u.
First showing the tick marks was a magnificent job. Second counting the tick marks for me was helpful as I am a visual learner. last showing me in your presentation to divide both the numerator and denominator by two was what stuck with me, making the job of measuring easy . So thank you for your video and for teaching me how to read a tape measure.
This was made to understand so simply. The people I work with were just trying to either make me feel dumb or make them feel smarter. Thank you so much. 😀
I'm 55 and I've only used a 10th ( Construction ruler) scale Ruler. I finally figured it out thank you Exceptional and Well presented Fast enough to keep me intrested slow enough to be infusing
I'm going to excuse your comment and pray for your unkind words. You must be unhappy.. Don't respond to this because it's the last bit of attention you will receive.
Lawd, I'm so glad I found you, these other people video's about had my pressure up. You broke it all the way down across the board. Thank you so much!!!
Great job...I am 63 yrs old and I have learn a lot from your presentation. Thanks...You can be my teacher anyday. I don't understand why folks gave you thumbs down. You are all thumbs up for me..Thanks again
I just found this video 7 years later and it has changed my life. I watched so many videos on how to read a measuring tape and none of them helped. I specifically appreciated the diagram of the measuring tape. It helped a lot. Thank you so much Dr. Dixon for your in depth, and easy to understand explanation.
I am great full to found your video. I had a hard time learning how to read tape measure. You can’t believe how many videos I watched. But your video was all I needed. Appreciate your patience to teach me this clear.
Working at a shop with some new hires. They do not know how to read a tape measure. This video is a huge help. Definitely will be sending this link. Thanks 😊🙏!!!
all my life been using the metric system and I always watched you tube videos hearing the imperial system, couldn't figure it out at all and just with the graphical figure you showed at 1:09 i figured it out right away thanks for ur effort and support, now all i got to do is to memories it
Thank you so much for this video. Truly you are a saint for breaking this down for a dummy like me to understand. For years ive been searching for a video to truly help me and im so glad i kept looking.
You just changed my entire life. There isn't thanks enough. So much Love sent to you. Thank you for your sense of understanding that sometimes, we all don't just get it the first time. I'm 38, single mom for 10 years. I regularly say, my Daddy taught me everything except to read a tape measure and tye a knot. That has hindered me so much in my diy home repairs...... But No More THANKS TO YOU. ✌️💜💜💜
fantastic, ive never been anygood with maths this has helped me im over the moon, if im building something i grab my ruler and try and work out the measurement or i go to the nearest point and make the job a little bigger, i know some inches but not a lot once again thankyou. john
THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH YOU JUST HELPED ME GET A BETTER POSITION AT MY JOB MEAN I'M MAKING MORE $$$.$$ I WATCH THIS VIDEO EVERY MORNING B4 I GO TO WORK #HELPFUL🤑🤑🤑
Thank you soooo very much for this simpelest explaination Dr. Dixon. Not only did I learn how to read tape measure properly, I learned fractions too. You are a blessing to humanity. May God keep you well.
53 years old and I finally got it LMFAO.....Thank you! I am getting into woodworking and I need to know how to accurately read a tape measure down to the 16th so this was perfect!
You are so easy to understand and your voice is so peaceful. Oh my goodness you are wonderful. I was looking up how to read a measure and started watching a video and the first one was measure without looking like an idiot the guy was an idiot. He sounds like someone that will talk down to someone if you let him get away with it I had to quickly turn when I found you it's a breath of fresh everything. Thank you.
You know what. This is not just about the dang tape measure!! If math were to have been explained this way with fractions, I would have began to understand and appreciate math more than I did! Thank you!
Wow! You're the best! This was the 4th video I watched and now I understand. You break everything down & go over it a few times in different formats which helps immensely. Thank you
This video was so helpful. You did a fantastic job at explaining how to read and interpret the numbers on a tape measure. Prior to this all I understood was the half line. Thank you Dr. Dixon.
I can't thank you enough. I've tried to learn this from other sources and even had someone try to explain it to me in person. I've been intimidated and confused for years and you somehow not only explained it in a way that made sense to me but made it easy! Thanks to you i really get it and will be committing your explanation to memory and sharing it with anyone else who doesn't know how to read a measuring tape. Thank you so much!
