Welcome to another HOW 2 video! How to use a watch TIMEGRAPHER.

Very useful information, it's surprising how many RU-vid reviewers have wrong lift angle set and don't realise the effect on the amplitude reading. To adjust the beat error on more basic movements you move the second lever on the balance assembly. I recently cleaned the sticky hairspring on one of my Vostoks and afterwards the beat error was 1.1ms. It is trial and error which way to go, and as with the rate lever, small adjustments make a big difference! The beat error lever on a Vostok is much harder to move than the rate lever, and as the movement is only really held in position by the stem, I use a screw driver to brace the movement in the opposite direction to the direction I'm moving the lever so is isn't trying to bend the stem. I hope this makes sense 🙂

Bought one a few months ago, had to figure it out myself- this video will be very helpful to new owners. Not something I use often, but a nice thing to have. Good video, thank you 👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you, really useful. I've been wanting to get a Time Grapher, for ages. Your video, showing what can be done, has persuaded me to finially get one, Cheers for another great video.

Thanks for the useful video. The beat error is quite easy to fix if you have a timegrapher. Most movement have to levers by the axis of the escapement. One regulates the rate and with the other you can adjust the beat error.

ETA 2824 based movements and their clones are a little different. They have an excenter screw for the rate, which makes the regulation even easier. The remaining lever is for adjusting the beat error.

Thanks for a very informative video. I just purchased a timegrapher and am learning how to use it. One thing I believe you said incorrectly which is that the higher the beat rate, the better. According to my research, ,"The amplitude of a modern watch should be between 275 and 315 degrees. In a vintage watch, an amplitude between 250 and 300 degrees is fine.", so it can be too high as well as too low.

They're great gadgets, especially for regulating newish watches that don't need service. Lower end Seikos aren't regulated from the factory and yet microbrands using the NH35 are often regulated and can be very accurate. All of mine are now running to within 10s per day. Thanks for the straightforward video.

Wow, definitely learnt a lot from this and I don't even have a timegrapher. I am hoping to get one at some point but they're not exactly cheap. Thanks for the video though, appreciate the knowledge.

Great video one can never have too many tools for our crazy obsession with watches and your videos are extremely helpful that said I do have a question for you I have 3 nh 35 movements in watches that have stopped running after a couple of months they won't keep time basically they just die after just a few minutes even if powered up partially or fully HELP if possible Thanks my friend 👍

I regulate watches referencing only one position, crown left 45 degrees down, the orientation of the watch when you're sitting (which I do a lot of.) I don't recommend messing with the beat error arm-- it's very hard to adjust and it can damage the hairspring if you get it way out of whack.

Thank you Dan, terrific video. I've yet to buy a timegrapher but always end up using the money towards another watch...lol. This year I'm investing in a few more tools and a timegrapher for sure. I know it will be very useful but can also see where it could be very addictive 😀 Thank you again. Have a wonderful weekend mate.

Good video, thanks. First time on my new Timegrapher (after watching your video) I managed to get my Smiths Everest (Miyota 9039) from -27spd to -5spd. The big problem is having the dexterity to move the regulator lever the tiny amounts necessary to make fine adjustments. Any tips on that?

Beat error: can be improved by adjusting the fixing point of the balance spring on the balance cock usually adjustable or if that is older fixed type you need to adjust the spring collet on the balance shaft -not for the feint hearted. At rest the balance roller pin should be in the middle of the pallet forks to be in beat.

Great explanation! Maybe a stupid question but what happen with a quartz?
@davidcarter2072
@davidcarter2072 2 года назад
Different device sadly! Relatively inexpensive timegraphers for auto and mechanical watches are common from manufacturers such as Weishi (as seen in the video), but more expense is required to analyse a quartz watch with similarly priced devices from manufacturers such as Witschi.

If you place your watch on the stand only one side has a microphone, the other is just a clamp so always put your crown against the microphone because the crown is attached to the winding stem and the winding stem is directly inside the movement resulting in a far better mechanical sound. Not a lot of people know that.

Have you ever used an android app to do this? You need a device to mount and listen to the watch, which cost about £15 quid on ebay. I've not done it myself, but after buying watches for a few months now, I finally ended up with a watch that's running very fast, so may just give it a go myself. I can't really justify buying the Timegrapher featured here.

What is lift angle, and can you still timegraph a watch if you don't know a watch's lift angle?

Hi, have you researched what a healthy amplitude should be for a fully wound MT5402 movement? If you know it's dramatically away from that, it would need a service. How old is the watch/movement?
