Aeroplan employee here!! I really enjoy the way you explained your method towards this type of booking. with the visuals you've provided in this video, it makes it very easy to follow the process that you're trying to put out to our members. the idea behind all this is definitely true, it definitely does work and can result to you being able to book amazing trips in the future. HOWEVER , since the transition to the new reservation system, the availability that you see on the website is only more or less available. when it comes to Air Canada, it's pretty much fine across-the-board but when it comes to the other airlines the availability is only debatable at best. We have a lot of desync with what you see online versus what we actually have available to book. meaning what you see on the website is not a hundred percent sure available because of inventory updates. so in conclusion, yes I do approve and encourage the idea you're giving us in this video. However, take with a grain of salt what you see available on the website. I can no longer say with confidence that what you see is what there is.

Great video and information. Personally I have followed your method with great success. Important to me is once I leave Vancouver I dont want to stop on the East side of North America...I prefer to have the longest flight from the West Coast in order to get the rest I need to avoid jet lag. Also returning... landing in Montreal or Toronto is brutal as your jet lag kicks in and makes your wait unbearable.... I always like to land on the West Coast as it gives me the extra 5ish hours to sleep through the lag. Usually I use San Francisco with Swiss to Zurich....

Loved the cut and paste idea. So simple and such a time saver. Currently awaiting Business availability to open for next Fall for YYZ - LIS (layover on TAP) - MUC (on TAP, plus Salzburg and Hallstatt while there)- VIE (on OS). From there we will take a side trip VIE - PRG - VIE (on OS) and then commence the homeward bound trip VIE - LIS (layover on TAP) - YYZ (on TAP).

Ricky has a Points Consulting service on his Prince of Travel website. You should check it out! Consider piecing together your own itinerary like he did in the video. If you fly into, say, Chicago on United, then hop on Turkish Airlines to BKK with a stopover in IST, you might only be looking at around $100 in carrier fees. This video really explains it all, but if you need more help, I recommend the points consulting service.

TAP is the obvious choice and they’ve got great award space to North America out of Lisbon, and don’t forget about their Porto-Newark flight as well. Failing that, Swiss, SAS, and LOT are good backup options.

Hi Ricky. Thanks for this super informative video. I sure learned a lot from it. I have a few questions I have about MPM and flight redemptions. - Are complex itineraries where you piece segment by segment still available when you call Aeroplan after their transition? - Is there limits on how many segments you can have on a single one-way redemption as long as it is within the MPM limit and all stops are less than 24h? - If I wanted to book a one way flight that goes something like YYZ-ZRH-SIN-HND by segment and pay the Asia 2 miles price, would the MPM be based on YYZ-SIN or the destination YYZ-HND?

So the round trip still costs 110k AP but by figuring out the stop overs and layovers yourself, you can make the trip the way you want? Will this be possible after the platform switch on the Ap side? Yes, search for 2 people for each segment, then when you're calling let them know upfront that the miles will be coming out of two separate accounts.

Why call to book instead of booking the different legs on the website? Wouldn’t it cost the same amount of miles?

The website isn't advanced enough to let you stitch multiple segments together into one itinerary. It'll try to charge you the individual prices of each leg instead. Only an Aeroplan agent can put everything together over the phone and charge the right amount from origin to destination.

You could - but you'd pay the individual mileage amounts for every flight, so it'd get very expensive very fast. Not to mention that everything wouldn't be on the same ticket, so you're not covered in the case of delays. By calling, you get everything booked on one ticket, and only pay the price for the single round-trip (e.g., 110k miles for business class to Europe).

110k miles to Europe in business class. You’re allowed one stopover only, which we’ve chosen to have in Lisbon; the other stops can be 24 hours long at most.

Hi Ricky, Living in Winnipeg, the only real low fuel surcharge option for myself is the United direct flight from Winnipeg to Chicago... Searching on Aeroplan, however, the only option I can ever find is Air Canada through Toronto to Chicago. The direct flight to United is never an option; similarly any Swiss Air from Chicago to Zurich never is available on a favorable airline... Any tips?

If you only have Air Canada flights within North America then the surcharges won't be too bad at all, so you could fly from Winnipeg to Toronto and catch TAP Air Portugal from there, or fly Winnipeg to Montreal and catch Swiss, or you could continue onwards to Boston/New York/Miami and catch a variety of airlines from those gateway airports as well.

Hey thank you for the video. I've got few questions after watched your video. a) If I book one way trip and book it by using segments, Aeroplan would not charge me more than one way miles? For example, if I book to YYC-SEA, SEA-ICN then it would be still 75K miles in business class? b) stop over is allowed with one way booking? c) How the fuel charge will be calculated if I am combining segments with high fuel charge and low fuel charge carriers. For example, AC plus Asiana. Thank You!!

a) Correct. b) Nope, only on round-trips. c) It's usually the "main" carrier that flies over the ocean that counts. So if you combine an intra-North America AC flight with a transpacific Asiana flight, the surcharges are likely to be quite reasonable.

Hi there...silly question but...can you have city xxx-yyy-sss-rrr? Meaning, if you search segment by segment, and you can't find any direct flights, you may have to do a stop over on each segment...does Aeroplan allow for this? I am trying to go from YYC (Calgary) to MAD (Madrid, Spain) but each segment I search is not direct, there is at least one stop per...what does one do?

Yes, as long as none of your layovers are over 24 hours and the total routing falls within the "MPM" then you can book it over the phone. MPM is a bit complicated to explain, but basically, as long as your routing looks somewhat logical on a map, it should be fine.

If you booked it straight on the website, you'd be charged the individual mileage price for every segment, which would get very expensive very quickly. Calling in allows you to stitch everything together into a single one-way or round-trip.

Is it ever lucrative to earn top status with one particular airline for it's perks? If so, can you a video on how to earn statuses on Canadian Airlines like WestJet and international airlines as well. Also is there a way to get airline benefits (i.e. priority boarding, priority check-ins, extra baggage allowance) besides just earning points with airlines. Also how does booking with airline partners play into all this, does it count towards airline points? There's quite a bit of material on RU-vid about maximizing points but please also do more videos talking about maximizing ease of travel with airlines, and how to unlock all perks of the travel part as well. Hope that makes sense and as always, thank you.

Which city is your place of work? If you're flying Air Canada domestically, the surcharges are not nearly as high. It's only important to avoid Air Canada for the international flights.

A single ticket can have at most 16 segments, so in theory you could have 15 layovers.

Unfortunately the info in this video is no longer valid. You can no longer build your own itinerary and call the call center and have them book it for you. Aeroplan has changed all of their rules.

Who is an equivalent youtuber out of the US. All of the data is good but I would not be using AeroPlan.

Thanks for the video. If I'm not mistaken, not all flights on Aeroplan show up on ExpertFlyer so we can't solely rely on ExpertFlyer. I know you never said to solely use ExpertFlyer but if it's true, it's worth noting there's a slight difference in listings.

Good point. The listings overlap 95% of the time but the Aeroplan search engine will be the ultimate arbiter of what the Aeroplan agents can book. Off the top of my head, I know that Aeroplan often makes additional space on Air Canada flights available to its own members that ExpertFlyer might not pick up on. Similarly, ExpertFlyer uses the ANA search engine as its source for searching ANA which often provides more space on ANA-operated flights than what partner airlines can access, so you might not get the same results on ANA when looking via Aeroplan. It all gets very complex very quickly - but then again, that's why it's usually those of us who put in the time and effort to learn this stuff who will be rewarded with amazing trips!

Get Aeroplan Diamond status and then maybe, if you're lucky, you'll only be waiting for half an hour 😉

Aeroplan is a total scam, my recommendation is not to pay for this credit card. Instead spend that money in a flight. To use the points cost you more that a regular flight. 100% scam

Prince of Travel wost customers service ever, I would not recommend it to anyone. Stay away from Aeroplan.

@@royaguirre551 If you don't know how to use the program and aren't willing to learn, then yes - best to stay far, far away from it. For the rest of us, we'll continue enjoying our round-the-world trips in business class 😀
