Your not supposed to turn the ignition on until you have plugged the unit in, it specifically says in the manual connecting or disconnecting the test equipment when the ignition is ON can damage the test equipment and the vehicle's electronic components.

I figure I don’t need too fancy a device but it’s good for me to at least know first what’s wrong so when I take it to a professional, I don’t end up getting scammed. I have a 2007 highlander. So it has its age and would need some care now and again to keep it fresh. I’m not saying a professional would deffo scam you, but it’s like getting a second opinion from a different doctor. You just wanna make sure the problem the first one told you it has is verified by the second one without you telling them you already went to a previous mechanic. Also make sure you don’t tell either of them you went to either of them. And don’t go to a mechanic any mechanic you have went to, recommends. You avoid scams like that too. Scamming as in overcharging. I have been buying tools here and there and even though I’m not adept, I believe with a bit of time patience and the right tools, and some instructions online, even a child can fix shit up. We’re all capable of independence. We just gotta be willing to work for it.

I did the VIN scan and it said Vin not recognized so it won't shoot out codes. It says for cars 1996 and up and I have a 1997 so I figured it would work.

I’ve been having a stabilitrac error on the gauge cluster on my 2012 give terrain. I changer both wheel hubs and still won’t go off. your excursion i'd buy a laptop and a USB OBDII dongle and get forscan its free software but the obdII usb dongle is like 30 dollars comes with instructions on setting it up........ can do almost everything the dealership can with 4000 dollar a year Ford IDM setup. for all ford vehicles and a few other brands including ossiliscope and even shutting off injectors for diagnosing bad cylinder or compression or even bad injectors.

I have a question, if you still have this tool, does it read your engine cranking in the live data? Trying to diagnose a no start issue with my car, and my scanner isn't picking up any RPMs while the engine is cranking.

I have one of these things. Sometimes the live data scan works, and I see all sorts of graphs and things like that, and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m not exactly sure how to make the data scan work. I’m about to give up.

Instructions say not to turn the key until device is plugged in. Then turn key, before removing cable turn key to off.
