This video shows how to use an applique mat (or Teflon sheet) to assemble small parts for fusible applique. The technique has been shown on one of my patterns, That Japanese Doll Quilt, which is available to purchase and download from my website www.gourmetquilter.com.

I bought the Quilt Mania number 77 a few years ago but it is only when I saw your video that I remembered having seeing it somewhere in my quilting magazines. Wow! What an easy way to make the appliqués!! Thank you so much for such a genious idea! Now, I found my magazine and it will be my project for my Christmas present to my little grandaughter. It is such a beautiful piece.. How would you suggest to quilt it, after the top is done?? Thank you for being so generous in sharing your expertise and knowledge.

I love your videos :) When you sew down the appliqué with your machine do you just go around the outside of each doll or do you sew down where the separate parts join/overlap as well?

Which iron do you find best? I'm currently looking at the one you are using it something more like a clover stick iron?

Has anyone made this quilt? What stitch did you do around the applique? Threads? Would love ideas. I have all the pieces ironed on to the background. Just not sure how I'm going to stitch it.

Do you only use this method for raw edge applique? Doesn't seem like it would work with needle turn applique....???

I'm wanting to use your technique for my granddaughter's bed. It will need to be washed a lot. Will this raw edge technique fray?
@GourmetQuilter
@GourmetQuilter 5 лет назад
Hi, thanks for watching. I have used this technique for all sorts of things including clothing which gets washed often. The fusible web helps hold the fabrics as well as the stitching. You may see a very slight "fluffing" on the edges but it doesn't fray. I don't have any problems with washing.

Teflon not good.
