If you press Cmd+Shift+Control+4 instead of making a screenshot it actually make a copy of that particular area so you can add it to your card (Cmd+V) without getting your computer full of pictures (screenshots). Keep the good work up!!
Live saver video!! I'm learning to use ANKI for my Bio course right now and man I got a 90% on my mid term after using it for 2 months! Plus, I stopped taking notes. Now, I'm hardly taking notes, I spend less time studying, and I'm having a higher retention rate! :)
Thank you, Zach. I have used Anki for about two months and one of my mistakes, which I understood thanks to your video, was learning only by creating my own decks. After your video, I tried the existed, created by other people decks, and I see that it works even better for me and my goals. Thank you very much!
I wonder if I'm the first German you see in your comments. Have not watched this specific video yet but wanted to take the time to let you know that your older videos are already incredibly good and I like your personality. I really want to see you closing in on Ali Abdaal!! Keep it up and Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland If you ever need someone who speaks german for whatever reason, remember me! I'm bored af ...
PRO TIP : while taking a screenshot, make sure you hit the control button in addition to the other buttons. this way you basically "copied" a screenshot as if you copied a text and you can easily paste it as if it were a text ;)) so that is : shift+cmd+control+4 thank me later lol
Hello my friend, you are very smart and i noticed that from the first time i watched your vedio, I am first year medical student and would like to thank you for being my guide to become the best doctor! Sorry for my broken english!
love this channel and this series!! so very helpful for anatomy! But how do you stop yourself from turning your lecture slides into Anki cards? lol I've searched for shared decks but some are so big and I'm not sure how to navigate through all the cards and only select the ones I want yet.
Watched the beginner tutorial and this. I was a bit scared starting the anki journey but your video made me less of it and definitely excited!! I adjusted everything just like yours but I understand that you used these settings cause you're doing it for the long-term... I just wanna ask what settings would you recommend for a student who is going to take his exams in 3 mos? That would be very helpful. Cause I am that student 😅 thanks!
Just a question, when do you make your flash cards? Do you usually make it while reading or studying the lecture? Thank you and btw you have a good content plus my grandma says you look like Bradd Pitt.
Please do an eg of how u would use Anki to do content review/practice questions/FL review for the MCAT. I feel like so many people don’t understand how to optimize Anki for MCAT specific studying.
A real matrix moment when you're studying pomodoro style and on your break time go to watch youtube video about Anki from Zach Highley and he teaches about pomodoro method and how not to watch youtube videos on your pomodoro-break unless it's a Zack Highley video
can I still start using this if I only have 2-3 weeks for the exam?I already tried anki but was not able to abide by the right schedule and I think the flashcards that I made are too complex thus it takes too much of my time
So I’m revising for a test and there’s different sections (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5) it’s all about 300 slides on ppt should i put it al in one deck or separate ?
You could put them all in the same deck and give each card a tag according to their section (e.g. 2.1, 2.2, 2.3..). You could also create a separate deck for each section and put them all under a master deck. That way when you click the master deck you will review all the cards, or you can expand it to just look at one section
I've got a burning question. you've said to suspend the cards and only do the particular topic that you want to be studying for that day. If that's the case, once you're done after 5 hours for example, do you suspend those decks again and if so, how are you going to review those cards now that you've suspended them? Thank you
Hey Zach I'm a Pre-Med student and I had a quick question on how you take your notes, you said in a video that you get a basic understanding of any material and go back through it by using active learning, do you go through your chapter or chapters and then take the tests or do you skim through it and take the test?
No, our school has a continuous/integrative curriculum so we learn things like path/pharm all throughout the two years. We have not been given those tests.
@@ZachHighley Ah Ok! Thats great. I wish my university did that as well. We have different subjects (one full year of just pathology with different systems) and pharm the same thing. Its hard to keep track of the physio+drugs esp with pharm! Are you currently using pathoma, and sketchy for pharm?
@@yashpawate1306 Yep I use/love both of those resources. I have a video on my favorite resources here if you want to check em out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y6-2s9cxBkA.html
Hey guys! I'm kinda new to the habit of doing anki daily and I'd like to know if i've been doing it correctly, but I still don't know how to interpret the stats. Could you please help me undestand if i'm doing ok and where I need to work on in order to improve my anki performance? The following are my stats: Days Studied: 31/31 (100%) Answer Buttons: Learning 77,55% | Young 91,48% | Mature 93,45% Average Ease: 263% Average Reviews/day: 420 Thank you!
When you mention Hebbian Learning, what does that mean? I'm studying Biology right now, so instead of studying one topic at a time, should I study the whole Biology course? Because then I might not know which topic I'm learning and it could get confusing.
Soo I learned a ton from your 'getting set up for med school' vid and I just hit Command A then Command J in my cards and all of them are gonzo- no where to be found (that I know of. Still very new to Anki). Can anybody help me?
One question, do you still learn the subject that you have passed? like when I pass cardiology subject and move on the next subject, do I need to suspend the cardio's cards?
I have a question, so you are advising to make the cards short. What will you do with the pathophysiology? Signs and symptoms especially if they are a long list? Flash cards too, or you wrote it in notes?
Hi Zach, thank you for the great video! I have a question: I want to enable the anki 2.1 schedular as you advised. Now a window pops up which says: (sorry I have to roughly translate it from my german Anki): If I enable the schedular it will reset all my cards in the learning phase. What does that mean? Willl I have to go through all the cards I have ever learned in anki again or just the ones which are in learning but not the ones in repetition? And is there a workaround to that? Lots of love from Germany - a 4th year medical student studying pharmacology
Hello, can you help me please? I would like to know how you have your colored labels(tags) when you are studying your decks, at the bottom they appear in different colors. What is the plugin or how did you program it? Thank you very much.
If someone sees my commentary, please help me. I am a Brazilian student and I am preparing myself for the college entrance exams, here in Brazil we need to study every subject we had in school, math, Portuguese, chemistry, biology, etc, so how do I review all of these subjects? One subject per day, everyone on the same day, separately.
What's your study schedule? I'm in 12th grade (from asia) and I do 8 hours every day. I'd recommend a little bit of every subject every day, but try to do more of subjects like maths and physics. Good luck btw
I am a little confused by your question, I mostly (99%) of the time just use the premade deck. I only make my own cards when I get a question wrong and can't find a flashcard in the deck.
@@ZachHighley Option 1 : What is the capitale of France ? {{c1::The capitale of France is Paris}} Option 2 : The capitale of France is {{c1::Paris}} Do you think the option 1 is better or the option 2? Prepark Juthani said that with the option 1 you stimulate more your brain with questionning yourself rather than just reading a sentence with cloze deletion which is too passive according to him. I would like to know how exactly you write new flashcards?
I have question plz I did all the set up you said in previous video I start study psychology now I want study reproductive also I do command A and command J for reproductive but it doesn't added to anking for study How I can study 2 different systems on anki please?
and if i want to read only about salmonella in the AnKing desk how i find the cards only related to Salmonella? Best regards man! your videos are really amazing and well synthesized
Hey there are a couple ways to do this - you could just search it, and pick those cards, or there is a really nice tagged portion under Sketchy Micro so if you go to "AK_Step1" → "SketchyMicro" → "Bacteria" → "Gram - Bacilli" → salmonella
@@ZachHighley ok i have a better understanding now about how it works!! Thank you so much man! You have no idea how much you helped me with your videos!!!
Hey, that's a valid question and you get into coding to answer it, here is an easier workaround: 1. Download AnKing card type from here: drive.google.com/file/d/1uwoR22hr_4q4eiAO7zdnwWXUSawrDRLL/view?usp=sharing 2. Open the Anki profile you want this new card type in 3. double-click the download 4. You know have the "Cloze-AnKingMaster card" type! 5. Whenever you create new cards use this card type and you will have that 6. if you want to convert all your current cards to have this section you will need to do a deep dive into this video from the AnKing, find the part when he talks about converting card types (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cg-tQ6Ut0IQ.html)
I have the anki Version 2.1.43, and the scheduler v2.1 feature is not showing on my preferences>scheduling tab. I am not a macbook user, do you think thats why? Pd: Love your videos! :)
Hey, I don't think it is that relevant. However, if I were you, I would download the Anking (video here on how to set it up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gbi90aa-h3I.html) and then get a hang of it. There are definitely embryology cards in there that you can unsuspend and study from. As for Histo, there are cards but they won't be relevant (mostly) until you get to pathology.
@@ZachHighley Thank you so much for clarifying...Anking has too many videos and I got overwhelmed lol. I have Anking deck, I'm gonna testing out the water to see...
@@cathn88 Good plan, yeah I was overwhelmed in the beginning too... take it slowly! Suspend all the cards then just search through the deck (in the browse section) and unsuspend a few to get a feel for it.
when i hit the space bar twice by mistake and then press cmd+z to redo the card would the first answer (which is good in this case because i hit space bar) be counted or it would be considered as if nothing happend?
Hi Jay, it would be considered as if nothing happened - you will be sent back to when the card was in the question state, i.e. "Mitchochondria is the _____ of the cell."
hi, Zach can I set a time for my reviews per a day>>> I mean I want to study cards for about 2 hours, so I want to finish the cards of the day in these two hours and if they are not finished in these two hours I want them to go to the next day>> how can I do this?
Hey Mohammed, I really would suggest *not* setting a time limit. Completing all of your reviews every day is essential for sticking to the algorithm and maximizing your retention. That said, if you want, you can review for 2 hours (set a timer) and then just stop. Those cards will be waiting there for you tomorrow, they will automatically "go to the next day" because they just roll-over. BE CAREFUL (avoid) the "reschedule" option - it will remove all of your learning intervals and just "reschedule" the cards to appear over that amount of days.
@@ZachHighleythanks a lot. I think it was a silly question😅 but you really made it a useful one. you gave me 3 important tips that will make a difference thank you so so so much
The biggest problem is why use flashcards in the first place. I have never used flashcards. I don't understand them. I don't know why anyone would want to use them. First, it takes a long time to write them. Second, it may take a long time to read them and get the answers correctly. Third, they look boring, tiring, tedious and time-consuming. Why not just read a book? In the same time you create and read flashcards you could just read a book. Or, if you are studying something like Physics of Mathematics, you should just solve a bunch of exercises from a textbook. Most textbooks have plenty of exercises for you to practice. All you have to do is solve them. The book author already prepared all the exercises for you, you don't need to write them, unlike flashcards. If you are learning a foreign language you should read as much as possible. Reading is the best way to acquire vocabulary. You consult the dictionary for the words necessary to understand the text. Reading is much more fun, entertaining and engaging than using flashcards. By reading you always see the word in context. Flashcards on the other hand take the words out of context. It is much harder to memorize and understand them. Flashcards are completely inefficient compared to just reading.
