This AMAZING little ornamental grass brings a big blue flavor to the landscape! Bringing in color contrast to a bunch of green-tones shrubs and perennials is a fantastic way to boost curb appeal and interest to your garden. Blue Fescue is a 'foreground' bordering plant, which means it's typically used in front of other taller growing plants. This creates the first 'layer' in your landscape. Festuca glauca is hardy from USDA Zones 4-10 and is widely used throughout Southern California, Los Angeles County and much of the Southwest.
Blue Fescue is Native to parts of Italy and France. Great for a Southwestern garden or even modern landscapes! Use this cool little grass to boost curb appeal and make that landscape POP!
Blue Fescue will get a bout 10-12" tall and wide. It can be used as a single plant or masses in the landscape which can create a really neat look! It can even be used to replace a lawn!! It's very drought tolerant and requires very little care. Maintenance is pretty easy on this one :)
There's also other fantastic varieties of the Blue Fescue such as Blue Ice, Elija Blue, and Beyond Blue, which all have wonderfully vibrant blue foliage.
Learn how to use and care for the Blue Fescue to create the best longevity for your landscape!
Happy Planting!

It grows like wildfire in the South Eastern United States the deep South It seems to like areas like a marsh area or an area can be marshy but with well-drained soil this is tough grass and it's absolutely beautiful It's growing like crazy I liked it it checks out the weed so far and grass and blends with the landscape a love naturalizing I don't like to put harsh chemicals on the ground I have in the past but most of them are all basically salt anyway except for that stuff and round up stay away from that

How does one "Share it back" in late winter? Does this mean divide it to form 2 more new plants, or does one purchase new plants and replant! Thank you.
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants 2 года назад
Shearing it back would be to cut down the majority of the foliage. This would encourage new Spring growth :)

If you have the opportunity to get forestry mulch don't put it near your house of course because of termites however these plants grow very well on forestry mulch
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants Месяц назад
100 % correct. Forest mulch does have very good nutrients… However, it tends to not have the aesthetic value as other more refined mulch. Thanks for watching!

I have 10 blue fescue plants and 2 of them is is mostly brown with very few blue green shoots. Should I scalp it all to the ground on the browns ones ? It almost looks like it went dormant like a fescue lawn will do in high heat
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants 2 года назад
Yes, hard prune them down to ‘nubs’ for the winter. But I would do them all together for consistency when the foliage returns.

@@BudgetPlants Could I dig it out and divide it to make 2 or 3 more smaller plants.Would that help rejuvenate it too since I am stirring up the roots?
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants 2 года назад
Unfortunately blue fescue do not divide very well… Unless carefully executed, it will most likely parish.

@@BudgetPlants I seen videos showing people who's had success splitting this plant to make more smaller ones. Actually decided to split this one plant this morning and made me five smaller ones, of course that is if they survive lol. What I noticed about the plant is it was real black around the middle/ crown area, look like rot kinda

Hello! Can you explain better when you mean that the festuca Glauca has a short life duration? What do you mean by sharing it at the end of winter? I would be grateful, thank you!
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants 2 года назад
Site! So typically, Festuca glauca has a lifespan of about 4 to 5 years max. Sometimes a little more under optimal conditions. Shearing back in the winter helps to promote new fresh growth. Using pruning shears, cut down to a small 4-6” mounded stump. Hope this helps!

@@BudgetPlants I am in the Pacific Northwest on an island in zone 8B. If I share it back right now (34° at night, 45° during the day), AND I want to divide it to spread in other areas… Will I kill it? Is it too early? Cherry blossoms are in bloom and lots of bulbs are up. Thank you. I had no idea of the short shelflife, so I want to take advantage of these three-year-old plants before they die. Too costly to replace that often when planting en masse.
@bridew
@bridew Год назад
When to plant? If I plant them in end of February, what size would it be in summer?
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants Год назад
The cooler months are generally great planting season for these as well as other drought tolerant plants. you can expect about 1.5 times the size by the end of summer, and about double the size by the following.

I planted some Of these and the whole Plant seems “ loose”. Almost like I can grab it and wiggle it and pull it out. Any reason for this. They weren’t cheap, and I’d hate to have picked a few bad plants.
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants 2 года назад
Sounds like a soil issue. Maybe too much sand in the mix which would create a weak unestablished root system. A good loamy mix is desired.

Would you be able to grow Blue Fescue in coco peat/ coco coir indoors, if it’s under a full spectrum light? (Asking for some quail friends)
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants Год назад
That’s a great question…. I’m not sure, but it would be worth a little test to find out. Coco peat is a great medium for growing however nutrients will need to be added. Full spectrum light could work as long as it’s given some heat at well. Worth a try!
