You seem like the type of man my ex-wife would fall for: handsome, successful, free of permanent prune fingers as a result of being created and raised in an experimental water tank, and charismatic. Knowing you are able to use any receiver with Bose speakers would likely only make her more attracted to you, unlike my cold, unsettlingly moist fingers. Maybe, just maybe, if I had known the receiver I had could have been connected to any Bose speaker, I could have played our Zoom therapy sessions loudly enough to get through to her. No matter - love, like my hands, is slippery. Holding on as long as we can is all we can do. As always, thank you, U Can Fix Anything, for teaching me that the real receiver connected to a Bose speaker is the love I found along the way.

Very informative video, how would you go about hooking the complete Bose Companion system because the bose speakers it come with connect to a woofer system via stereo cable.

Those cubes only have response down to about 150hz, so you better hope the amp has it's sub LFE crossed over at it's highest point, and also the cubes present a very low impedance to the amp which could damage it at high levels. The system was meant to run the way they designed it. Also the Bose bass module is a bass module and subwoofer, so it has a summing circuit built in to produce the bass the cubes can't AND the LFE. while also keeping the system impedance at the more common 8 Ohms. But don't listen to me, I only worked for them....
@UCanFixAnything
@UCanFixAnything 3 года назад
This is some good information, thank you! The impedance was an unknown for me as it is not labeled on the speakers (and I didn’t bother to figure out if I could measure it), so yes with the lower impedance, if the amp is played at a sustained level near its max output, it could cause damage. However, the Bose speakers have very high sensitivity, which causes them to be louder at a lower amp output than a standard speaker, so it has that working in its favor. So at the end of the day, throwing a dance party with this setup is probably not a good idea.

Another good question is if the accoustimass module is powering those cubes with the signal from the receiver or is just filtering frequencies below 150hz

You can just bypass the sub for the center channel upgrade. Run the new center direct from the receiver. (Unless of course the Bose style plug from the sub is the type your speaker uses).

So you want to use it for one of the open channels on the receiver? For example as a side speaker for a 7.1 setup? If that is the case, then yes that will work fine. You will just need to modify the plug for that cube (like in the video) to be able to connect directly to the receiver.

@UCanFixAnything
@UCanFixAnything 3 года назад
It is possible to connect, but not easy. If we are looking at the same model, there is an input into the sub with a bunch of pins expected to be plugged in. You will need to experiment to find a ground wire pin input and the sub line pin input. So basically two of the pins can be filled with custom wires and the left rest empty. Then from there you basically make your own wire. You will then need to solder those two pins to an rca plug head for the sub pre-out. This is a video worthy effort, if I had one of those I would make a video!

@@UCanFixAnything any chance to communicate you the diagram i found on google? basically you mean the connector resembling a VGA cable? Note that it is the old model and the seapker cable and the sub to player are all together
@UCanFixAnything
@UCanFixAnything 3 года назад
Ah yes I see the diagram online. There are two models, one has an input that looks like a vga and the other has a more square type input. At any rate, yes, check the diagram for the pins that are for sub on whichever model you have. Should be two pins for sub. Plug in two small wires direct to those pins, then run from there to a sub preout, make sure you use a preout and not a powered sub out from the receiver. The pre out will be of rca type. You can just touch the wires to the preout (one on outside one on inside). Then you can solder an rca head on later once you are sure you’ve got the right wires.

@UCanFixAnything
@UCanFixAnything 2 года назад
You don’t need the subwoofer. Some guy on here measured the ohms of the cubes and said it was like 6.8, which is fine for most receivers. The sound quality will be as good as the receiver pushes. So ya, you should be fine to hook it up like is shown in the video.

@psuambassador1
@psuambassador1 3 года назад
My understanding is that if you route directly to the receiver, without doing more, the speakers will not get all the highs and lows. You are supposed to hook up everything through the base module, since the base module supplies the highs and lows to the speakers (in a way). The speakers will work, but they will sound like crap.
@UCanFixAnything
@UCanFixAnything 3 года назад
Standard receivers will have the crossovers set for the speakers direct from the amp. These speakers sound just as good as any other speaker of similar quality from the receiver. They may be tuned for their amp more precisely in the Bose system, but if you are trying to wire it this way, the quality difference between these and some other speakers is probably not the main concern.

So, you, cut, a, speaker system, in half? Then connected the speakers separately, to the receiver? Would it not be easier just connecting the speaker systems as Bose designed? If somebody reading this is confused, ?. An Bose speaker system, is an speaker system, not only for name, but it is a system to be used together. Imagine that there is 2 tower speakers in front, one on left, other right. These are the traditional 3 way speakers. The Cinemate is a speaker system. The left, right, and the right, left speakers, combined with the Acousticamass (not a woofer or whatever else could connect it to other brands) mix to form a phantom center channel. As for the left, left, and the right, right, and the Acoustimass. They form the phantom rear speakers. An combination of all makes the left and right channels. The Acoustimass goes up to a higher frequency than a woofer, especially a subwoofer. The Acoustimass is soft of the woofer and mid low, in a 4 way speaker setup. The small speakers are in place of the highs, and mid highs. Let me repeat speaker system. Bose produces an pleasant and enjoyable listening experience. This is not for a serious situation. Wanting to throw a party. Get something else. Deep serious movie night. Get something else. Watching an documentary, casual movie, sitting around relaxing cleaning, anything. Bose is got you. The signature Bose sound built into the system, not only one or some of the components. Is produced by the system, cutting it apart destroys the sound that Bose is known for. The parts don’t produce good sound, separate from one another. This is why Bose has a bad name. Along with people trying to show it as a serious home theater, or music stereo. I thoroughly enjoy Bose overall. It is one I will always recommend to anyone looking for the best enhancement, to their home entertainment. As for someone looking for a great music setup there are many setups better for that. Thank you for helping the Bose hatters out. Down the road, you will probably end up buying something else, and talking how bad the Bose sounds, compared to your new setup. Further helping the hatters. Don’t mention anything how you butchered the system up.
@UCanFixAnything
@UCanFixAnything 3 года назад
I agree with you, I definitely would leave the Bose system together if possible. It is best tuned to work with itself. The reason for the separation was that an individual moved out of their house and left the sub and speakers mounted in the wall but took the receiver. The owner of the house did not want to buy a new Bose receiver, but they had a 5.1 available, so the choice between using a different receiver and buying a new Bose receiver was determined by that. The users were not concerned with sound quality, they just wanted something that worked.
