Excellent! I have struggled with dubbing for years . Pinching hard with moistened finger tips is transformative.

I plan to start tying aswell, had no idea how to dubb. Seems simple enough now, though.

Very good video. Not squeezing the dubbing/ thread hard enough and using too much dubbing are my problems, so your video will definitely help with those. The one thing I noticed is that the thickness of your dubbing on the thread is between 1x and 2x the thickness of the hook shank, which is remarkably thin. If this is a rough guide then presumably this can be used for much smaller hooks.

Thanks! I know this is an older video but I am starting to get further into tying and I have been stressed out about this. I had a feeling I was using too much because you demonstrated what happens to me when I try to add dub. I am just working on simple nymph patterns and wooly buggers.

Is it possible to combine ice dub and another super fine dub for easier application, or using white ice dub with a vaiety of colors to give you alot of different ice dub colors?

Question When you apply the dubbing are you holding the tag end of the thread to keep it taut?

Try 'rope dubbing' as a replacement technique for any fly with any dubbing. No wax, no tools. Ice dub is a piece of cake, no matter how much you'd like in the pattern, from a #32 to a 14/0- one pass, taper, segments, bullet-proof and 1/10th of the time.

Why not use a PRITT STICK (sparingly) instead of dubbing wax!!! It's all natural materials, very tacky, none toxic, colourless, doesn't alter buoyancy of fly and dirt cheap!!! Just smear a little on the base of your forefinger, no need for an irritating lump that keeps falling off and lost!
