Thank you so much. This is the best tutorial I've used on RU-vid. Clear, concise, and useful. I had many questions when I started using Gmail (just started today), so I was lucky that when I searched for help your video popped up.

I created a gmail account years ago, yet continued to use my yahoo account (which is my maiden name from 18 years ago ;) because I just couldn't figure out gmail or how to make it work for me. I finally decided it's time to become a bonafide adult and actually learn how to use gmail. This tutorial was SO HELPFUL! I am not a total convert, thanks to you. So long, Yahoo!
Same here. I just set up a Gmail account as a secondary to my Outlook and was clueless on how to use it. This vid explaining the label system made all the difference.
very clear and concise---thanks I'm converted to gmail--the strong advice that there is just one file of messages --sent or received no matter how labelled is something to keep in the front of my mind
Good tutorial. I never did a deep dive into GMail before and didn't realize so many features were available. I was particularly interested in the"compose" info and for me, found that the most helpful. I think I am going to set up a dummy account to play around with. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you Anson, your video was very clear. My left column with the list of inbox, starred, etc sometimes disappears an take me a while click on to get it back; that feature was not in your tutorial, but overall was very good.
Very basic and straight to the point which is what I wanted. My only issue would be the size of the font as my mother is the one that I will have to go through this and it is small to read. I suppose we could adjust through the browser but since I am not with her I don't want here to learn yet another skill for now. Well done sir!
Excellent tutorial. One question, please. I am not sure how one saves an email forever ( or until one no longer needs and wishes to delete) if gmail gets rid of emails after thirty days or is it only getting rid of trash emails after thirty days? Thank you. Also, how does one delete a batch of emails at one time.
Thank you! I needed to send a doctors note to excuse me from my class but I didn't really know how to do anything. I just didn't want any trouble marching my way during sixth period while I'm chilling in the library.
Very helpful, for what it covered. Did Gmail ever get around to make deleting (trashing) messages easy? Today I have 6,322 unread messages, and thousands of “read” emails that I want to trash. I get 30+ daily. I need to sort message by date, then by sender or subject and then select a large group of them, and trash them. Or, if they cannot be trashed, at least label these masses of messages as junk or spam. Also, it seems messages can only be archived, not trashed. I watched your tutorial thinking you would cover this problem, that everyone I know has.
Very useful. Anson. Thanks! And advice on how I can expand (to the right) the panel that houses all inbox labels? ie some folders have subfolders that it is almost impossible to read them.
I can't thank you enough for this! Primary email is Yahoo and I'm used to that interface and its features. Coming to Gmail was like stepping onto an alien planet 8-o I only use Gmail for a few business purposes but I've shied away because it was so confusing. I needed a base, beginner, walk-thru of the Google/Gmail experience. So THANK YOU!!
Great tutorial! You mentioned that Gmail has a auto filter that moves mail into your Primary and Promotions box. I think mine has stopped working. I keep getting a stream of notifications that appear in a column to the right of my screen. They pop up on my screen one by one but I want them to move into one of my three sections. Promotions & Primary work, but Social doesn't and I receive a lot of emails that are Social. How do I correct that?
Super helpful. I am helping a friend who views his gmail on both an iPhone 13 and his PC. Can anyone direct me to a video that might help me understand how to use the 2 together productively? He says he deletes unwanted gmail on his iPhone, but they do not get trashed on his PC. Am guessing there is a setting (like I use in Outlook) that determines which device deletes from the server.
I've recently, in the last few days, started using Gmail Online. I've always used it via something like Outlook/Windows Live Mail and more recently, Windows Mail. I was always having issues with these programmes, so have decided to abandon/uninstall them in favour of the online option. I always used that to check emails away from home, but never really bothered with it, otherwise. But, with a bit of tinkering I'm really impressed as to how customizable and "clean" looking it is, now I've tweaked things. I'm particularly happy with the "unsend" option, which is a "default," although I've altered it to 30 seconds. The one thing I *can't* do is get notifications to work? I've tried the available options in "Settings" but nothing seems to happen. It's not a major issue, but if anyone has had the same experience and managed to solve it, it'd be much appreciated! 😉👍
You're welcome, I'm glad it was helpful. As I go over in the video there are no folders in Gmail, only labels. I go into great detail about this in the tutorial so it may be worth taking another look. Good luck with Gmail!
Yes you can, but you need to use Cc (carbon copy, as mentioned at 6.45), then you put all your intended addresses into that Cc box. I felt Anson didn’t explain this too clearly but Cc means each recipient will receive the email AND all the addresses of all the other recipients you put in the box. This in turn means that any one of the recipients can reply to all the others on your list (which is handy for a group discussion). If you want to send a multiple email but don’t want the recipients to receive the list, use Bcc (blind carbon copy). Bcc means each recipient will receive it privately as if it were sent to them personally but they won’t receive the list and will only be able to reply to you. Hope this helps.
