It doesn't affect the efficacy of the product it's just an application hack of sorts, helps to distribute the product more evenly. You don't have to emulsify it to activate it or anything.
Use conditioner after. The main thing is to apply it on clean mids and ends, wait for full 4 mins and then whatever. I usually apply conditioner or a mask right on top, then rinse out and apply everything else (like leave ins and oils). They do say so on their website, and it was confirmed with k18 team directly by another blogger. It's not a conditioning mask, it's a repair one, so obviously, its main focus is not to add moisture but to repair the structure of the hair.
