Your videos are a constant resource to learn more about lighting! While I currently have no interest in using Pixel Tape, I always find your videos worthwhile to constantly be learning more just in case it would become a need in the future. I've went from knowing nothing, to completely creating a wireless DMX universe starting from nothing to my church. I can't thank you enough for all the effort you put into these and the great help you've been for me personally!

For stages, 24v systems are nice to produce better intensity and more consistency over length.

I think pixel control is probably the most confusing and advance part of stage lighting

Hi. I am using 5V led tapes with 60 pixels per m. Problem i have had was with voltage drop, and high current draw of about 2 amperes per m on max. I had to run very thick wires, and still got 3V at end of the wire. I have tapes in led light pipes with connector. Solution for problem with voltage drop are miniature 3A DC Buck Step down adjustable converter module. Every module is good for one led pipe, and this enabled me to run supply at 28V with much smaller voltage drop, and because every meter of tape has own supply there is no problem with unequal light. hope someone will find this info useful. Good videos, like your work.

Thank you David amazing vídeo, one of the most complete vídeos about led pixel, do you have any led Neon flex tape you could recommed?

I just found your channel, and you have been of great help to me! I am a junior in high school and essentially run the whole show by myself (notes, creating light plot, recording show, running board etc...) But your videos are very useful. I do wonder though, if I am planning on continue my education in this field (lighting design) where should I go? I've done lots of my own research, but I want to see if you have any input. Thanks for creating the great videos!

My best advice is this (and I get this question a lot, and have thought a lot about it!). Find people who are doing exactly the type of lighting you'd like to do. Don't know what that is yet? Ask people to do a "job shadow" where you help them for a day. Some types of lighting include: Lighting Designer for live events Lighting Director for live events Lighting Installer Lighting Designer for installed systems. Lighting Technician/L2 for live events Lighting Repair/Shop Tech Find these people, and ask them what the best way is to get to where they are. They will generally be happy to share. For most things, going to college for this type of work isn't really helpful, but there are some sections of the industry (mainly theatre, or working for a large corporation) that still want to see that. Many, if not most folks in lighting have gotten their training primarily "on the job". Thanks! -David

@@LearnStageLighting yeah, I was hoping to work for a larger theatre/corporation, and I have a great start already I feel as if. I was thinking maybe DePaul for lighting design/projection design. I have learned a lot in my three years at my high school, but I think college would be best.

Are you able to control WS2811 LED Pixel strips on lightkey control software? I have a SPI to dmx decoder and I'm looking for a fixture profile to control this.

Great video David. I want to write a driver to convert Artnet signal into WS signal for controlling WS2812 leds. For that purpose I use a raspberry pi 4 on which I installed OLA but still now I can't get it working. May be I'm missing some inputs. Anyhelp with how I could use OLA to reach my target? Thank you in advance

I’m wanting to incorporate pixel tape in my rig with DMXis but I want to have the ability to do some pixel mapping. Would I need a Pixel Port to do that? Also, is there a way to have more than one universe with DMXis?
@LearnStageLighting
@LearnStageLighting 4 года назад
Pixel port is a great way to do that. But there is not currently a way to go over 1 universe in DMXis (let's hope they're working on it!)

Love the video! Any idea how DYLOS would be able to handle about 5k channels of pixel tape? Currently running a medium/large church production and are using Obsidian and DYLOS. Thanks for the help.

Should be no problem. Obviously, you'd need a Onyx Key to unlock the universes!

Hey! Is there a away to control each individual pixel? For example, if i want every other pixel to light up. Or if i want to make certain ones individually across the strip light up? I noticed in the demo mode it will let you drag across and highlight one pixel. Can you do it for more than one pixel? Thanks! And great videos btw 😄
@LearnStageLighting
@LearnStageLighting 4 года назад
Sure, any lighting software or console that can put out Art-Net or sACN can get control this way. "Pixel mapping" type software doesn't give you this style of control.

When using the aluminum channels to rig a custom fixture, what are some tips to make a robust cable connection from the LED to a short 5pin connector? I want to make a modular set up that I can set up and tear over and over and im worried about that fragile sodder between my LED fixture and it's cable tale that I can connect with any long run 5pin dmx cable. What can I do to clamp down that connection. Im assuming gluing it would just be a mess and would degrade quickly

If you have a little extra space on the aluminium channel, then some flexible glue (RTV silicone or similar) can work great.

Hey David! Thanks for the great videos. Do you know if it’s possible for Elm to have multiple stages? Said another way, could I trigger different banks of lights with different animations independently from each other? I would also like to map those different stages/animations to keys on a midi keyboard and record the midi notes in ableton so that when I play that track back in live, all the lights will be in sync with the music. Thanks again!
@LearnStageLighting
@LearnStageLighting 5 лет назад
Hi Pete. Yes - ELM can have multiple stages! For the MIDI notes, you may be able to get it working straight from MIDI to ELM, but it will be easier to trigger from a lighting console. So, you'd set up scenes in a lighting console like DMXIS (easy) or ONYX (free, but more complex) that control ELM, and then use MIDI to trigger those lighting console scenes.

Could you please look at the camera. Helpful video but it eurrks me that you are looking past the camera

Definitely something I'm working on getting better with. But, my priority is getting our quality information first, and delivery second :) I would rather have this video out in the world in it's current form than it just be an idea in my head!

@@LearnStageLighting I understand completely!! Maybe try a different camera angle. Facing the direction you are looking?? I also consider space may be a issue.

Maybe you could just do a voice over? If you're reading notes, a teleprompter is a good solution as well.

Hi, is an important point for me due to English is not my language and I help myself watching the lips It would be great if you speak a little bit slowly so people who speak poor English as me can get the complete information By the way I found just what I was looking for thanks a lot
