The mamiya/sekor 500 DTL camera was introduced by Mamiya in the late 1960s.
The Mamiya 1000 DTL and 500 DTL offer both spot and average metering at the flick of a button.

I was inside a consignment shop with a friend just the other day. And I happen upon a canvas camera bag. Inside was a fully working Mamiya/Sekor 500. And along with it 4 separate lenses. I had snagged the whole bag for under $150. It's a treasure I couldn't pass up.

thank you, i was searching this camera my parents said they had lost somewhere, my dad had it since he was young and i just found it with other dusted dvds and cassettes, i asked my dad how it works but told me he doesn't even remember anymore

Do I need a sync cord for the flash or should the flash work simply by mounting it on the shoe mount? I’m asking because I went to a camera shop today and tried three different external flashes on the mount and none of them worked on my camera

Hi! I just bought this camera at a garage sale and I was told it works but after doing some research and fiddling with the camera I found that something is messed up with the film advance lever and the button. The button won’t release or stay down and the lever will not go past a certain point. Not sure what I’m doing wrong and I would appreciate some input. Thank you!

Hi Joy, This camera used 35mm film. The battery that you need is S-76E, SR-44, EPX-76 or equiv.

Hi I enjoyed this video it’s helped so much! If my light meter doesn’t move when I switch to S, is it broken? It only moves when I switch to A

Hi Kayla, The lightmeter is Ok, I think the needle does not move due to how you measure when it is in spot mode (S). Looking into the viewfinder at the bottom of field you can se a small area between the meter area brackets, that area is the area measured by Spot Meter (S). Aim the camera so that the bracketed area falls upon the most important part of the picture you are about to take.

So if we set the shutter speed greater than the exposure meter, we will get an overexposed picture right? Or should I use a phone meter? I tried the latter but there’s a big difference between the two recommended shutter speed settings

Hello Jamie, That's correct, if the needle are over the plus (+) mark we will get an overexposure picture. To find out which of the two obtions suits you best, you can make a test roll in different light conditions, where half of the exposures use the camera's light meter and the other half of the exposures use the phone meter.

Thank you for the video! The exposure indicator needle won’t move unless I turn Shutter Speed Dial. Does it mean it’s not working? Or maybe I put the wrong battery (Energizer 357/303)? Can use this camera without battery?

Hello Yurii, The 357 or 303 batteries are replacements for the s-76 battery, it may be that there is little light and only when you change the speed does the exposure meter react. However, it is always recommended to test the camera with film to check if the exposure meter works correctly.

Yes, you can use the camera without a battery but you'll have to either use an external exposure meter or the "sunny 16 rule" as a beginning.

Hi, If the film continues to advance, it means that it is being exposed to light, but only until the film is developed will it be possible to know if the photos were well exposed and if they are in focus.
