In this video, you will learn how to use matchlines and view references in Revit. The goal of this video is to show you how to split large view into multiple views and how you can easily manage both views with a matchline and view reference. A matchline is just a 3D line that will show up in views to delineate the separation. The view reference will actually direct the user to the other side of the view by calling out the detail the view on the other side of the matchline. Setting the view reference is easy and allows others to understand the full view. The view references are considered to be "live" or interactive in that after printing to PDF, your PDF reader can take you directly to the view by clicking on the view reference. This video is part 3 of a mini-series of splitting a view and how to lay it out on a sheet. The scope box and duplicating views videos are linked below, so check those out first. Thanks for watching!

Good video, but please consider lowering the volume of the music if not remove it completely, makes it hard to concentrate to what you're teaching some times, thanks.

hi there....first thank you so so much for your informative videos ,they really helped me out to learn a lot of tips and tricks in revit and when ever i need to check sth i always watch your tutorials. But i only have few suggestions about your videos: 1. i find the background music in all videos very annoying and distracting because we are watching a video for learning sth new which needs concentration ,so we are forced to listen to an unwanted music during the videos. 2. i know that you do your best to explain everything comprehensively and i appreciate that but i think that your videos are sometimes too long to watch. it is better to manage the time by explain the points in more organized way.

Thank you for the kind words. I have removed the background music in future videos. And I do agree with you, sometimes they are too long. I will work on hitting the points and getting out of there.

I have followed all the steps in the video but for some reason even after picking the view type and target view my tag just says "Ref" and does not change no matter what you pick including referencing views on the same page. Revit 2018
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard Год назад
Interesting. That could be because the view you are referencing is not on a sheet therefore there is no view to really reference.

Revit 2024 scopeboxes now has a parameter of height, in this way there is no need to go in 3d or in a section to repare it

How do I place a section view cut and perform match lines? In plan view I want one section cut shown but the section view derived from it is split into multiple section. When I duplicate dependent views of the section it places multiple section call out in plan view with different tag names at the same location, which I do not want.

do you have any tricks for Area plans with view references?
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 2 года назад
You can put view references anywhere but besides using them in area plans to reference floor plans or other area plan, I do not have any specific trick.

Excellent job. But I have a question. I prepared a primary view with a matchline and i made two dependent views partA and partB. I placed primary view on sheet1, scale 1:100. partA on sheet2, scale 1:100. partB on sheet3, scale 1:100. I want to keep the scale of primary view at 1:100 but i need to change the scale of partA and partB both to 1:50. Any help?
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 2 года назад
Hey thanks! For this you would have to have a duplicated overall view. I end up leaving the dependents overall view off of sheets so I can do what I want with the dependent views.

what's the difference between match line and scope box? I see them being used in the same way yet they are somehow different!
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 4 года назад
A match line does nothing to split or define a view, it is simply a line to show where one view ends and another begins. A scope box is often used when match lines are used to define the view on each side of the match line. That said, scope boxes can be used on their own. They simply define 3D extents which can applied to a view. Here is a link to my video on scope boxes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z3f6B9iVNbI.html Here is a link to my video on match lines: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UYVPllpmLvY.html

@ArchitectureVanguard

I could possibly, although as an architect, I rarely if ever deal with modeling rebar in Revit and rebar clashes. I will see what I can do though.
