Before Melodyne, you had to take several takes of which you picked phrasing of each word out of.. choppped it all up, found the best take in terms of rhythm and aligned your cuts to that... At that point you started to run things through Auto-tune. Melodyne has eased a lot of those steps and allowed you to do less take chopping, saving you time and your performer's voice. Great stuff.

Great video! 😎👍 I bought Melodyne studio 4 in 2016 to help me with my own voice, mainly tightening up my vocal stacks. Gradually I got hooked on it. Now I’m using it for a lot of things. Getting rid of unwanted noises, editing anything audio, from basses, strings, winds, guitars and of course vocals- not only for note editing but for rhythm, reducing sibilants, evening out dynamics, swapping notes, phrases, you name it. It sped up my work flow immensely. I use it almost everyday! Great plugin’

This video was fantastic, the only thing I could suggest was that I wish you had hit play more often, if that makes sense! Everything was explained and shown perfectly, but there were many moments where you explained something, showed how to do it and why, but then moved on to the next part; I was hoping to hear what each note/section sounded like before and after the tuning. Hope to see more of this, definitely subscribing!

The avengers analogy doesn’t hold up. We care about overly tuned vocals because singing is inherently human, whereas flying and super powers isn’t.

Great stuff, the actor-singer analogy is a bit of a reach because an actor’s occupation is literally to pretend to be something they’re not; otherwise they’re literally not acting. For vocalists it’s the complete opposite, their occupation is to be themselves in the rawest form-their voice. They’re expected to be authentically them, displaying their true capability as a vocalist. If THEY are acting then they’re failing at their job. In short, an actor is SUPPOSED to fake, a vocalist is not. I’m not against vocal tuning btw, I use auto-tune & melodyne to clean stuff up, just felt the need to expound on that comparison.

Would you consider making a Video explaining in depth a combination of Melodyne and autotune For example. REVELATION MOMENT FOR ME! 5:35 I always split the note where it it's 'waist' is - WRONG! It should be split half way down the dip line at the centre line of the blob. Thanks so much! This probably explains why I always struggle with these corrections and end up with wobbly gargling.

I stumbled across your channel after painstakingly scavenging around for videos to help me choose between Autotune and Melodyne, and I just wanted to say, your videos have been the most helpful, hands down. Great job! It looks like both have their quirks -- Melodyne for more fine tuning, and Autotune for more of that "quick-and-dirty" application, and it seems like a lot of folks like fine tuning vocals on Melodyne first before adding some of that Autotune "flavor" after. Have you done this at all? If so, do you find that the vocal gets "over-digitized"/ overworked in the process? My minds telling me that I should be happy with just Melodyne, and I'm worried the vocal might lose its "natural-ness" if it goes through Autotune after, even with adjusted tuning speeds and what not to lessen the intensity...

I’m having problems with this lately, since I’m not a great singer when I snap my vocals into the right key they sound really bad even though they’re “tuned and in key”. How do I fix this so my vocals can sound natural while being on the right key?
