This video is the BEST on how to use Melodyne for beginners. Audio Edges, you have a gift for teaching and making everything simple. I am in my Seventies, and I could comprehend your teachings very well. I will come back to this video to re-learn everything on it. The thing is I can completely understand what you are doing, and saying. You are fast but yet thorough in your explanations. Two thumbs up or if you prefer stars, I give the video a 5 Star rating (5 out of 5).
Thank you so much for this kind comment, Jim! It really means a lot. This is why I make these videos. I'm so glad you found it helpful and I truly appreciate the kind words 🙏😊
You did a great job explaining this. I've had Cakewalk for 2 years and tried the free auto pitch correction. I thought this would be over my head. Thanks very much!!
You saved the day for my my school assignment! Thank you! The ARA in Protools was so confusing and I searched for some guidance. I will be using your traditional demo for a while before using ARA! Your instructions were very precise and clear. Please do post one on Melodyne using ARA with the 2023 Protools version if possible. I couldn’t find a single tutorial that used the new version and I was unable to get it up and running. I am sure there will be many who will appreciate it😊Subscribed!!
I'm so glad to hear that!! Thanks so much for your comment, it made my day. The Melodyne using ARA video is on my list, that's a great suggestion! Thanks again for the feedback and welcome to the channel :)
Highly under-rated video! Thank you for going through everything - I'm working on an EP so I wanna learn how to tune my own vocals before I send it off to my Mixing/Mastering engineer 👍😄
Alex - glad I came across this video. Just started melodyne trial and you showed every tool and task I can use to get started and I haven't even yet opened the manual. Did you know it's 200+ pages? Thanks. Hope you get many more views.
Thank you so much for making this video. I particularly appreciate the quicker ways of doing things - workflow is key for me. This really is an excellent tutorial. ❤
Thanks for this, very helpful. So many of Melodyne's "starter" videos assume you're already in the program and they just start tweaking things. A couple questions if anyone can answer: 1) Do you need to, or is it helpful to assign the key of the song before bringing the vocal track into melodyne? 2) When you are done making your pitch, level, etc adjustments, the edits live in the plug-in and remained synced to the track? 3) Can you open multiple Melodyne plug-ins separately for different tracks? (harmonies, other instruments, etc) Thanks!
With the assistance of this video I have been able to fumble thru a vocal track to test this stuff out. My version is Essentials 5 that came with my Samplitude ProX-8. Unfortunately I immediately discovered some discrepancies with my version and have determined my version is the most basic one...which is very limited. I have tried to contact Celemony but they have yet to reply to my many requests for further info on my version. That said...although very limited...I was able to fumble around and get thru my vocal track with this basic version and got a feel for how and what his stuff does. Bottom line...so far... after taking a couple of shots at it, I have been pleasantly surprised with the results. I'm still waiting to hear from Celemony.
I have gone back & forth with Rich @ Celemony who has been very supportive. The problems I'm having now is that Samplitude is not very cooperative to Melodyne, but that's nothing new as Samplitude is not cooperative with anyone!@@audioedges
Great intro to Melodyne! Are you aware that you don’t need to separate breaths and sibilants any more in the latest Melodyne version? Melodyne automatically does it for you. So your bonus tip #1 has become obsolete. 🙂 Anyway, thanks for the video!
Sorry for the confused question but how do you get the tuned audio back into your protools session. Years ago I Had to print it back into the session but don't remember how... is that not needed anymore?
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I’m using essential and they don’t come with pitch modulation/drift tool. Do you have any suggestion if I want to fix a pitch that’s too wavy? Also after I’ve done correcting notes in the Melodyne how do I save it to the original track? Many thanks in advance
Sorry if I've missed this somewhere. What version of Melodyne are you demonstrating? I searched for Melodyne 5 Essential, but I think this a more advanced version?
No worries, I didn't mention it in the video! This is Melodyne Editor. It's a higher tiered version, but the tools and concepts inside the video will still work for Essential :)
So once you edit the vocal in melodyne, does it need to be re transferred back into the DAW? Like as another track? Or re rendered somehow or is it just “done?”
The tuning edit lives inside of the plugin, which I recommend putting first in your chain! Then you can add the rest of your processing afterwards. It's best to do any track editing (e.g. breath edits, clicks, pops, etc.) before transferring your audio into Melodyne, so that the vocal prepped and all set for tuning and then directly into processing. Hope that helps!
Has anyone figured a way to open a saved file (*.mpd) in Melodyne that is playable? For me, the track is always grayed and mute. The manual is useless.
Thanks! I had a tech issue in the video export. It was a Final Cut/OBS bug that I've since worked out! The video still seemed to be helpful for others, so I decided to leave it up for that reason. Though I agree, the clicks are annoying. Sorry about that!!
The thing I hate about Melodyne (or really any vocal tuner) is you can't make any edits to the track in your DAW. If you do, you have to re-transfer it into Melodyne and tune it all over again! Sucks
That’s not true when you use a DAW that supports ARA (such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, etc.). Then Melodyne will follow any edits in your DAW and vice versa.
You can leave Melodyne as is on the first insert of the track, or you can commit the plugin to render the changes into the audio file if you’re sure you’re happy with your tuning job and want to clear up an insert slot! :)
@@audioedges dope! Thank you so much. Im looking into getting the latest PT version updated onto my perpetual license also to get the embedded melodyne... lets see
Coming from an analog world far far away, I have embraced the digital space we now live in. There is so much we can do now that was impossible before...yet for some things...I can't help but wonder about the days when singers were just GOOD...and didn't have to rely on all this stuff to make them better than they actually were...or are! Just like AI...they are removing the soul from everything. If you're under 50 or 60 you probably don't get it. Just ask any of the real singers from the 50-60-70 era if they ever needed any of this stuff.
I get where you're coming from, it's a valid point. In my opinion, at the end of the day, a great singer will still win because they'll get better results with a great performance and a bit of Melodyne touchup, than a vocal that needs in-depth tuning work (turning out less natural). Melodyne can't help live performances either, so there's still that incentive for serious artists to develop their vocal skills.
Good video but you tend to focus alot on keyboard shortcuts which is obviously your preferred method. Now I have to memorize all these shortcuts before you go thru how to access the tools. Please consider showing how to FIRST ACCESS and use the tool. You discuss functionality but then you literally keep bring up shortcut after shortcut. Dude, I need a cheatsheet for all the shortcuts. Maybe you could do a video called Melodyne shortcuts but when teaching basic functionality at the beginner level please consider showing us how to get to the function first. Otherwise great job.
Option command didn't let me zoom. My melodyne window is the entire bottom of the screen and I can't move it around. I'm so frustrated 🥲 Any chance you can help me with this?
In ProTools, if you have a Melodyne tab at the bottom of your screen that's "lit up, just click on it. It is an on/off toggle for Melodyne. Instead go to inserts and open a window you can move around.
