When you understand how to move, rotate, and determine angles in Vectric Vcarve and Aspire, you are well beyond the typical Vcarve user. And this video tutorial is going to take you there. You will learn how to move, rotate objects and vectors to exact positions, and find exact angles in vectric vcarve and aspire.
These functions are notoriously difficult to understand until you look at it like this.
Move vectors to exact locations
Find exact angles and rotate to exact angles
This works for Vectric Vcarve desktop, Vcarve pro, and aspire

Once again Garrett teaches us via his own experience. He is never afraid to experiment - and occasionally fail - in front of us, his audience. So we learn to do the same. I really respect that!

Terry, thanks! We are all human and make mistakes (including me). I love being able to share that with you. It's important not to be afraid to fail! It happens and it's a part of the journey my friend!

WOW!! A PRE-bit video. This one is OLD!!! ( I suspect that many of us don't get to the end of some of your videos because you show something and I, for one, think, OH BOY! I GOTTA GO Try THAT!!" In this one, in the first 8 minutes you showed a technique that I want to go try NOW (I'm right in the middle of designing with angles.) Or like your "How to drill holes" I didn't finish but will be going back when I design my spoilboard...

Garrett I think that the reason people leave videos in the middle is that they find themselves watching something that they think they will never use . Jeff

Good idea with taking a photo and importing it, to measure the "actual" angle. Vcarve is a powerful tool to have. And well worth the effort to learn. I can see many applications for this information- especially when designing custom work.

Great demonstration of angles and rotating. Thank you. Curious. Since you have the photo; placed on your canvass; maybe you could drag the boot over the pic and line it visually then place the button piece over the corresponding part of the image in its new position.

Pretty high tech for this 75 yo mind, might have to watch a couple more times. Looking at your spoil board i have a tip for you on how not to spoil your spoil board. I used to do picture framing so i have tons of matboard left over. Matboard is about .050 thick so i cut a piece the exact size of my project material and put it between the spoil board and material. When i do my profile cut it cuts about .025 or so into the matboard but never touches my spoil board.
@IDCWoodcraft
@IDCWoodcraft 3 года назад
Leroy!...this is brilliant. And I so happen to have a framing shop right next to me. I'm talking to him right now!!!! I will also put this on my list of videos to do.

@@IDCWoodcraft I do something kinda similar Garrett. Since I do a lot of repetitive items over & over again, at various times, I make kind of a 'Mini Spoil board' for each item. The board is made from 3 mm MDF and is cut to the exact size of the stock material that i will use. I place the stock material on the 'Mini Spoil board' and clamp it to the router table. When I do the cut, it cut cuts about 1 mm into the 'Mini Spoil board', leaving the image on it. I identify the 'Mini Spoil board' with the particulars and store it away for the next time I need it. I have an MDF 'Mini Spoil board' for each item I cut. By so doing, I have never used a full sized Spoil board on my CNC Router table, thus never need to resurface or replace one.

Hi Garrett. Your videos have been a lifesaver for me. I run a Onefinity Woodworker CNC with Vectric Vcarve Pro software. I am trying to make a fire department blank maltese cross in this vectric software. I keep screwing it up. Any change you can do a video how to create a fire department blank maltese cross from scratch? I appreciate it. Thank you for all you do.

Just purchased a shapeoko pro xxl. So far love the machine. The thing that I don’t like is the carbide create program. I think I will be purchasing vcarve pro. This video proves that vcarve is a better software program to accomplish various operations. What are your thoughts? As always I find your videos very informative. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey Metalmauler. My thoughts? That the other programs are limited is exactly why I bought Vcarve. And I'm glad you want to change to get the flexibility you can't with some of the others. Can you do me a favor? When you change, can you use the links I provide in the descrriptions? It give me a little pocket change.

I would have done the same thing with the picture... In fact I start a lot of 3d models that way...I was screaming/wondering if there is a short cut button for your angle spin.... Like maybe hit TAB and then type in + or - 180 degrees..... ???? I can hardly wait to play with this software.... your making me feel more confident in learning it. I have been making 3d models and animating for years but really want to make it solid if you know what I mean :

How do you rotate a panel or rectangle used for a stair railing, rotated to match the angle of the stairs. It would be rotated about a corner of the rectangular panel?
@IDCWoodcraft
@IDCWoodcraft 2 года назад
Hi Phillip. Once you know the angle of the steps (rise over run), Hold the rotate bead, then type in the angle, and the project will rotate to that angle. does that help?

Then, draw a rectangle around the orange button as close to fit as possible. Find center on that and run the intersection of the two lines on the bit hole to the center of the “button rectangle” for your angle. Sorry I don’t have better terminology.
