I have used nasal sprays, prescribed for my nasal congestion, for years. This video taught me more in 5 minutes than in all the directions that come in the box! Thanks for all the great info!!!!
Yes also me I have been used nasal spray for not then five years and now it make my pressure blood high in the night it’s like u r killing Urself slowly
Vik, where have you been all my (nasal spray and drops) life!? I have been using nasal antihistamines and decongestants totally wrong for decades. Some of the most useful medical advice wrapped up in a 5min video I’ve ever come across. Totally brilliant!
This is one of the best explanations I’ve seen about nasal sprays a ive had seasonal allergies most of my life and the doctor always wants to give me a nasal spray and I’ve stayed away because they don’t seem to work. Watching your video helped me realize I was using them incorrectly. Thanks for the help!
SAME I always assumed it was because I wasn't breathing deeply enough or putting the spray high enough in my nose wth! LOL pharmacists need to overexplain since a lot of people don't know these things!
Wow that was terrific! I've been using sprays for well over 30 years, have had sinus surgery and have lost count of all the ENT docs I've seen over the years. Not one doctor has ever taken the time to explain any of this and consequently I've been using sprays wrong this whole time! Thank you!
Thank you very much for this video! My biggest mistake was sniffing it right up. Now I let it marinade inside my nose, and it does work better this way. Extremely useful video!
I so wish that I lived in the UK so I could see you! I am an absolute mess and have yet to find a good ENT. I can tell that your bedside manner is absolutely stellar. I have gotten so much watching your videos. They actually have given me some hope! You are so kind for taking the time to explain all of this and I love that not everything that you share relies on drugs and surgery. It’s so refreshing to see.
Thank you for your kind words. I'm afraid I don't know anyone in America, I've only been there once for a few days for a conference. I wish you the best of luck.
Msrockwood, if you are near NY - I can recommend Dr. Steven Y. Park, he's an ENT/sleep surgeon at Montefiore. Oh he had a RU-vid channel ru-vid.com not very active but you can get an idea.
I've been using flixonaise for around the last 20 years. First time I've ever seen anyone explain how to use it properly. Thank you so much will start tomorow following your advice
My word! This is the most helpful information I have EVER gotten about using nasal spray correctly and it's function in all my 50+ years. i have had 2 sinus surgeries and a turbinate reduction which were not successful. I am a miserable breather most of the time. After watching your video this is the first time I have really had lasting hope for success. Thank you so much Doctor Veer!
Bonus tip #2: for decongestant sprays, only use at night so you can breathe more easily while you sleep. Suffer through the day as best you can without using the spray. This reduces dependency and keeps effectiveness higher.
The Muslim prayer position - super helpful! I recently started Dymista and had a hard time keeping the liquid from going down my throat (seems to be more volume w/the Dymista, maybe because it’s a combo spray). Now, I spray & then immediately go on my knees (prayer position) and tuck my chin under. I hold that for a bit, switching to “down dog” as well, so with my 2 Dymista doses per day I’m also getting the benefit of some stretching. Getting my nose “upside down” like this has really minimized the bitter taste at the back of my throat. THANK YOU! 🤗
@@adafridi Fluticasone may increase the risk that you will develop glaucoma or cataracts. You will probably need to have regular eye exams during your treatment with fluticasone. Tell your doctor if you have any of the following: pain, redness, or discomfort of the eyes; blurred vision; seeing halos or bright colors around lights; or any other changes in vision. Talk to your doctor about the risks of using this medication. Those are the long-term risks of taking it 6months +.
Excellent clip. I'm addicted to nose drops, but I suffer from a deviated septum as well. Getting information on a better way of using the sprays is a godsend! Thank you for your information!
Thank you for explaining the best way to use nasal sprays. I was prescribed a cortisone based spray without any sort of explanation. The paperwork inside the container had basic drawings and I now realise I was using it incorrectly because the taste I experienced afterwards was vile.
Oh my gosh thank you so much. I was not using the spray right, i was sniffing it up immediately so it wasn't effective. I sprayed it in an angle after i watched your video and i waited a bit and breathed through my mouth and it worked so much better!
Wow! Thanks Vik! I’ve been having non-allergic rhinitis for many years, I’m using a fluticasone spray, often weeks or months at a time. It helps but nothing helped as much as the nasules. Now thanks to your video I realized I’ve been using sprays wrong the whole time 😅 I was sniffing it, thinking it would help spread it in and I was spraying as deep as I could. How misguided I was 😅 I’m hopeful the new technique will boost the effectiveness. Thanks a a lot for the info! ❤
Thank you so much for this brilliant info. I’ve been doing it all wrong! You’ve explained it all so very well...I’m off now to wash my nose out and use my flixonase properly. Thanks again! 👍
Please do a video on this Epley's reflex and how to do it properly on your arm to make it easier to breathe! I have never seen that sneezing trick with the finger under the nose before, either.
Since I have been in retirement, at home, I have had no need for any nasal spray or corticosteroid. No allergies or reaction to an air-conditioned office. Yay!
Very well explained. I have aggressive nasal polyps and a deviated septum. And I have found the side with the deviated septum gives me the most trouble. I feel it is because I am not getting the right angle on that side when I spray, therefore the medication is not going efficiently to where it needs to be. I think your tips will surely help. Thank you so much. I wish my ENT was as helpful as yourself. And best of luck and much love to everyone here who is suffering!! 💙
Thank you so much. I never had so much difficulty breathing as I have the past 1.5 years at the age of 23-24. I feel like I'm suffocating, like a pillow has been put over my face and I'm trying to fight, fight, fight, and fight... Every day.
Fantastic video! You mentioned that the turbinates can swell up "depending on how fast you are breathing in". I am a singer and breathe in quickly lots of times (topping up mouth breathing with nose breathing) over 2 hours a night. As a result my nose feels generally swollen inside. Any tips would be hugely appreciated! :)
This has left me wondering if using a CPAP at a high pressure could be causing my turbinate issues, as well. @Musical131, can you tell me which video he makes these remarks in?
I have been prescribed Flixonase and although the instructions with it are good Dr Veer gives a superb why are wherefore of using nasal drops and his explanation fills in some queries about using Flixonase. He reallly is a great teacher. Lovely manner.
This video was recommended by YT and I'm so glad it was. This was a fabulous video Dr. Veer! So interesting. I will be sharing it as I know lots of people with sinus issues especially living down here in the American deep south. Thank you so much!!
I just started ketamine nasal spray. It’s absolutely awful. It runs down the back of my throat and I wind up swallowing it. Then I gag and heave. I’m optimistic that your instructors will help me. Thank you doctor.
My GP taught me how to do this in I think 1988. But he told me to do it directly towards the back of my head. It didn't occur to me to look into any other way to do it. Thanks for the expert advice on how to do it.
This is very useful info. Wish I'd found it years ago as I've struggled with polyps, and rarely hit the right spot, and have undoubtably swallowed and wasted lot of the meds.
Dr.Veer I’ve been using nasal sprays for years. Today with the help of you ,I now know how to properly use them. The way you explained was very easy to understand. I’m glad I ran across your page while researching CPAP thero
The most descriptive and helpful video on nasal sprays on RU-vid ever. I was able to understand what the turbinates were from your description after being confused by so many other animations and diagrams! However, I'm still confused about where nasal spray should be pointing. Doesn't pointing it towards the ear shoot it right at the bottom outer most part of the inner nose (the round part of a nostril flare)? I feel like when I point it this far to the side, the medicine just leaks right out of my nose. Some resources say to point it to the outer corner of your eye. I feel like when I point it at the inner corner of my eye, I get the most effect.
wow... all my doctors ever told me was to just spray it into my nose... unbelievable.... after decades, only now I found out basically all that money spent was for nought! Thanks so much for your video!
So, this "Epley's Reflex" that you mention at 2:35... I have Googled it, and can't seem to find anything on it. I'm very familiar with the "Epley Maneuver" for vertigo, which is a completely different thing, of course. Please do a video or provide more information on this. If you're saying that we can push on a certain part of our arm to shrink the turbinates, well then we all definitely need to know more....
I was just prescribed this for Chronic Sinusitis, the first day i didn’t really read the instructions and sprayed randomly and left it at that. symptoms were much better. over a week i overthought it and shove it deep into my nose and upwards like the box said and sniffed. eventually it hardly worked. the instant after watching this video i tried it and both nostrils are clear again. seems the more you coat in medicine the better! This might save me surgery! Thanks!
Hello there, I have one question - Which one is better Fluticasone furoate Or Fluticasone propionate ? And when should we use the spray, at night or in the morning
This was incredibly useful! I've had sinus problems all my life, including a sinus operation and two balloon sinuplasties. Knowing how to spray my current prescription medicines for maximum effectiveness (I have an antihistamine and a second spray that stops mucus generation).
Great information, well presented. I have been on some of these meds due to allergies and sinusitis and noone explained how to use them. Now I know. Also, very informative to understand some of the anatomy and why to apply a certain way. It helps me to learn and remember because it is not just rote memorization. Thank you for your service.
I got off phone with allergy doc twice today ....and many more months ago and couple years before that with ent ......I have severe chronic rhinitis and no one here will understand how many ways I tried to spry or things I bought ....it started to even cause sleep apnea.....I saw this one video and im shocked of well I understood it and how to spry...right now food smell in in room is extremely bugging me and ive been loss of smell for years ..this is crazy!!! this guy is insane !!!!
Thank's Vik ,if i hadn't seen this Most Wonderful Comprehensive and Exhuastive study about nose sprays, i would not have believed it!! Absolutely Fantastic rundown, well done Vik, keep up this invaluable work !!!!
i have Sleep Apnea and my nose stops up at night. I have steroids that i use as well. i can't use the cpap machine because I will get rhinitis. i do have the mouth piece that helps somewhat. my point in commenting is that i have learned so much from you about breathing, about throat exercises, etc. i have been dealing with these issues for years. i am in the US and wish that there were doctors here like you. Thank you for educating the population! unfortunately, i can't get access to none of the devices in london because i am in the US.
I got a very bad ear infection & my doctor prescribed me ear drops along with nasal spray. Last time I used them was more than 2 decades ago & I hated them. Turns out I've been using them wrong back then! Thanks for this video, using nasal sprays should be easier now! :) Edit: Yup, thanks to this video it's easy & comfortable taking nasal spray. Thanks again!
When you been on Flonase for a long time and you have that ah ha moment!! Why don't doctors or pharmacy explain these things, Geez! Thank you, very informative!!
Watching from Coastal San Diego, California, US, suffering w swollen turbinates, blocked nasal passages in daytime or when sleeping fm allergies & w deviated septum. Was prescribed Fluticasone prop. 2 yrs ago while awaiting for surgery and although was told to point bottle tip towards ear & not to tip head backwards nor sniff, no one, not the lab paper inside box and no other video could explain why. I felt that as soon as I used before going to bed, it made matters worse causing me to sneeze and produced extra mucus I had to blow like 10 times. By then the spray was no longer in my nose and was afraid to re-apply. Your tutorial brilliantly explains in detail what to do & not to do, why and how. No wonder this spray hasn’t worked on me w the expected results. I’m going to follow your tip to rinse first, sneeze, blow my nose and when that is over, apply spray near the inferior turbinate pointing in the right angle. I love your videos Dr Veer. They are very clear & super informative. You have a gift to teach! 👌👏🤗
Thank you for these tips! I'm a pharmacist for over 10 years and I have learnt so many useful tips! One extra tip, if I may, use nasal sprays within the expiry date! I see too many people using products that are expired.
A huge huge thank you for wonderful information . I’m currently going through hell with a severe deviated septum due to injury and it’s going to be ages till I get the operation.
An ENT thinks I have Eustachian Tube dysfunction and it is EXCRUCIATING, to the point of being suicidal during the most intense moments. The ENT put me on nasal spray and I’ve gotten absolutely no relief from this ice pick stabbing and full pressure feeling, especially at nighttime. I’m praying this helps because I’m going on three years with this pain and I don’t have it in me to fight it much longer.
I have a deviated septum, and great difficulty getting to sleep at night because the moment I lie down, one nostril reliably closes. The pharmacist won't sell me the commonly used sprays, because I've over 70 with high blood pressure. Which is all very well, but as she'll only sell me menthol instead - which is of very limited use - I've still got the breathing problem. I'll investigate the non-biological spray, and the various inserts and splints in your other video.
I do daily saline wash. If my body needs a shower and my mouth needs to be washed too... so those our olfactory. Our nasal passages and the inside also needs a washout. Washout dirty, pollen, other particles. Also when i was around individuals with the flu. As soon as i feel the tingly feeling inside my nose its an instant saline nasal wash. I have reduced my flu catching down. I suffer from sinusitis and once I made sinus washes part of my hygiene ritual... my sinusitis have gone down to 80%. There are days that i do get inflammation and infections which i do use steroid nasal sprays. I use flonase sensymist. But i hardly reach for it. Saline nasal washes daily are a lifesaver.
You are gold, I wish you would live in my country, you are the best. I am almost 60 and we just found out, i have a obstructive nose and troat problems. Many hyapneu, about 10 per hour , we will need more investigation. Butt so far, nose obstruction and troat obstruction, already on a diet, butt my nose always was a problem, because of childhood abuse, hitting in my face as a young chikd (5 years) my nose looks like I am a boxer. I AM using a lot of youre tips and advice. A m very gratefull for youre medical advice and tips. My sleep already improving, only waking up 2x a night. I want see if a operation can help me more. God bless you, you are amazing docter, love from Anna From Amsterdam. Xxx the Netherlands.
Hello Doc. Vik Veer, I really like your videos, and I found this very informative. I used to have a deviated septum and I am also dust mites allergic. Despite I had surgery for septum deviation and turbinates reduction 7 months ago, I still have issues with my turbinates (exactly the same way you described in this video) when I am at bed. Moreover, I happen to have swollen turbinates also out of the bed in some other occasion too (for example when I have some large meals). I have been prescribed nasal sprays like Avamys and Dymista (Canada), but they do not help that much. Can you make some video addressing this topic, please? Some general suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks again and regards.
I'm no doctor but after I had a septoplasty the doctor suggested I use Neilmed sinus rinse. That's years ago and it's the single best thing I have done for my health. It flushes everything out - allergens, and the mucus your body has released to deal with them, and leaves you with clean mucosa less susceptible to inflammation and infection.
Thank you very much for explaining how to use the nasal spray. I have been using it all wrong. Please let me know if you have video on continuous nasal drip, and throat continually affected by phlegm irritation. Thanks
Bahadur are you sure you don't have GERD? I was told I had a post nasal drip, but nothing worked. I saw an ENT who said a lot of doctors misdiagnose this, press where your "adam's apple is"and if you feel a bit of nausea it is most likely GERD or reflux. You might want to try a pepcid plus an allergy pill together to see if it helps (if you notice a difference also stay away from citrus or fermented foods! It will make it worse).
