How do you make boning over the curve of your chest in a bodice with boning at the front?
@marshmallowbear8449

Maybe try curving the boning and then steaming it with the iron to keep it in place.

I haven't used boning in a dress yet so I found it very interesting to see how it's done. I presume the boning only went into the back section of the bodice. I was wondering why you didn't put any boning into the front sections.
@thetailorette
@thetailorette 4 года назад
Sew Sew good thinking... I actually did put the boning in the side seams and the front closure, I just didn’t show it here. For the front, I made a Chanel in the seams because it wasn’t a pressed open like the back seams.

In sewing the satin dress, my vintage machine leaked oil on it. I’ll have to wash it but it still needs the boning added. Maybe I’ll hand wash that part now then add the boning. I was going to wash it when finished but i see you don’t recommend that. A brand new machine is in my future!

Did you make a separate sleeve for the boning before you attached it to the seam and how do you make that sleeve for the boning ?
@thetailorette
@thetailorette 4 года назад
Good question! This boning actually came with a sleeve on the role so I didn’t make it, I just came with it.

@sierralarars

I'm quite curious about that facing detail you did! I don't think I've ever seen it done like a bias binding. Is that just for an ease of construction?
@thetailorette
@thetailorette 4 года назад
Sierra Larars good eye! I create the neckline that way so a drawstring can be added to the neckline to adjust the width of neckline. Most patterns from the 18th century have that added so the wearer can adjust easily.
@sierralarars
@sierralarars 4 года назад
@@thetailorette ahh! I'd completely forgotten that was a thing! I take it the cord is tied at Centre Back to avoid the tails being seen?
@thetailorette
@thetailorette 4 года назад
Sierra Larars Actually it ties in the front and is tucked in the front neckline to hide it. Hard to visualized but it’s not visible at all 🙂

Thank you so much for this video! I'm thinking of adding boning to a 1940s gown, but she was most likely handmade so no lining. Would you say it's possible to add boning, or would I have to add lining?

I am new to sewing and I was wondering how you're supposed to sew boning in and other videos I've watched it looks like they're sewing directly on the boning but I was afraid that would break or bend my needle so does all boning have an edge that you can sew on
@thetailorette
@thetailorette 2 года назад
I am using an industrial machine so I would only ew on the boning if it’s a sew-on boning. The plastic boning may not be a good idea on a general machine.

TheLuxxen I would highly recommend hand washing garments with boning. In fact, I would almost take them to the dry cleaner. I wouldn’t want the boning to become distorted.

Hoopskirts are so often at thrift stores. If not alone as a petticoat you can cut it from a gown. I've found hoops skirts, crinoline petticoats, even tape farthingales.

Hi, thank you for posting the demo. One question: is plastic boning can stand machine machine? I really want to apply plastic boning to my clothes and have them easy to care at home..i don't want to pay extra bill just to prevent the boning from detoriating bodice shell. Cheers..
@thetailorette
@thetailorette 4 года назад
muty bint mansur are you wanting to machine wash the boning? If so I would highly recommend washing on delicate cold water. You may have to re-shape to boning from it being thrown around in the wash though.
