We have a FreeWheeler 2018. Our reverse motor quit working. Sent it out for repair, big bucks. To buy a new one I would have to sell my house. We have very low mileage. I believe what broke it was pushing the reverse button too many times. From my research most folks that have this problem have expressed disgust with this setup. I have a transmission add on reverse on my 2004 Ultra with a sidecar. It has operated flawlessly since I purchased the bike new. 20 years is proof to me it is a good product. The design of the Harley reverse is planned obsolescence. I suggest to anyone that has their reverse fail go straight to the transmission add on reverse and be sure to get a good one not a knock off.
@@boscodog4358 the reverse gear I have on my 2004, 5speed transmission is a champion. It was installed by Harley Davidson of Washington DC. The other units that they provide are made by Lehman. Frankenstein Trikes also has a reverse gear available that is good. Beware the Knockoffs. They leak and break and have limited tech support. You get what you pay for. My plan for my Frankenstein Trike is to get one from Frankenstein as they are always available and stand behind their products.
Hey Shipmate, put it in neutral, hold the reverse button till you see the “R” on the screen, then hold the button down to reverse. Don’t jog the button but hold it. I don’t guess I ever held it for anymore than 10’. Take care, Ed
Ed I've had my '17 tri glide for one week today. Neutral while engine on is a b****! Found it first time today. Gonna try your tip for middle of the foot. Lot to learn yet. Think I tripped the breaker on the reverse motor today. Going to try to reset that now.
For the price of this machine, Harley should have installed a "reverse gear" standard on the Tri Glide. I mean, reverse gear is standard on the Goldwing.
Oh I agree Bryan. I think a mechanical reverse would be much better. But with that said, you really don't use reverse often or for any length of time. Take care, Ed
Geno it just makes it easier so you don't have to angle your foot to the right to hit the shifter. Your foot is more straight, so to me, yeah it makes it easier. Take care, Ed
Thank you for your video trying to get me a trike so I’m starting to find videos to help me so when I finally do get mine, I’m good to go. Thank you again for this video and I do want to thank you for your service 💯💯💯👍👍👍🍏🍏🍏
@@TriGlideEd you are very welcome sir. Enjoy your weekend. I enjoyed your video. I am almost there for getting my new trike. Can’t wait. Thank you again.💯🍏👍
Hi Ed this is Steve my trike never arrived May 19 ...after 3 months of waiting and supply chain issues at Harley Davidson my trike arrived ...picked it up 8/12...worth the wait and I can hit Neutral every time...been playing with the boombox navigation system, thanks ride safe!!
Sir, let me tell you! You prevented me from trading my Freewheeler. Now I can now start it again if stalled "IN TRAFFIC". Thank you! Now I have to practice with the neutral.
Hey Lavada Perry glad to hear I helped you. Now use not your toes but the top of your foot to hit neutral. It’s a better “feel “ for sure. Take care, Ed
Hello Ed, How are you feeling, relax as much as possible and listen to your wife she knows more about you than any doctor. So take it easy nice and slow if she’s as tough as my wife you’ll be back on that bike sooner than you think! Besides the weather up here in New Jersey is crazy as a matter of fact it’s so hot that the fire hydrants are looking for dogs! You take care and God Bless! P
Good morning LoD! I'm trying to be smart about this recovery. I go in 6 days to get the staples out. I'm following the rules...doctor and wife :-) Also...THAT'S HOT! Take care brother and ride safe. Ed
Thanks for the tip on finding neutral...I have a 2022 tri glide on order scheduled to come in about May 19...when I took the demo trike on a test drive I had hard time finding (N)
Steve I appreciate you watching my video. Yeah, finding neutral is a breeze now, but before, good gracious it was almost embarrassing. Enjoy your new ride, have fun but ride safe. Respectfully, Ed
Hi Ed from U.K. Did I understand at the start of your clip, you indicated that you could start the bike in gear, but you did not refer to it again. It's my understanding that in current production models, there is an interlock that prevents you starting the engine when you are in gear. In previous models, you could start in gear, with the clutch engaged.
Good morning John. Yeah on my 2020 Tri-Glide it can be in 1st gear, pull in the clutch, push on the foot brake pedal or pull the front brake lever, and hit the start button. Now if you do not hold either of the brakes it will not start. That's what I do and it starts. Let me know if this helps you John. Take care, Ed
Heres a tip, if going into neutral at a stop light or any other traffic area, keep watching behind you in your mirrors. If traffic coming up from behind looks like it's not going to stop you need to get out of the way fast!!
Thanks brother, I'm about to sell my sweet fxst custom, my 60 year old knees giving me grief on the stops etc. my next is a Tri Glide. I appreciate all the tips on my next ride. yours looks great. A Canadian Harley riding Brother !
Hey David I think you will be really glad you go to the Tri-Glide. It’s an overall feeling of “Wow! This sure feels safe and secure.” And always glad to have our Canadian brothers and sisters join us. And thank you David for watching my videos. Also I have a nephew from Vancouver, BC...eh 👍
Hi Ed Brian here from England I’ve been looking at your blogs for some time now I’m a few years younger than you but really like the Tri Glide and thinking of purchasing one here in the UK. Some of my friends have conventional motorcycles and I haven’t rode a bike since I was a teenager! Would you think this would be a smart move at nearly 70 ? There are a few over here but not the Ultra , interested in what you think, you make it look like fun and I’m really envious! Keep up the filming oh yes have you ever had a problem cornering and going on to 2 wheels? Thanks Hope to be Tri Glide Bri 😆
Hey Brian. I went from 2 wheels to 3 and I feel much, much, much more comfortable and safe on 3. You just have to remember you steer a 3 wheel as opposed to a 2 wheel where you lean. I think after a few days you will start to feel like you’ve made a great choice. Remember, have fun and if you get one, ride safe.
Hi Ed, this is the first of your videos that I've seen, and it won't be the last. My Tri-glide is a 2013, and pedals and switches are laid out a little differently. This was still very informative. And btw, one Navy vet to another - BZ, shipmate.
Welcome aboard shipmate! Always glad to have a brother join us. I appreciate you watching Padraic. BZ to you also. I was a Radioman by the way. Take care brother, respectfully, Ed
@@agasalmans Good morning vvvvvvvvv. The bike has to be in neutral to put it in reverse. To put in in neutral I would start the bike, clutch in and foot on brake, then start the bike. With clutch still in if it's in 1st gear then use the top part of your foot and lift up for neutral. I find the top part of the foot makes it so much easier to hit neutral than just using the toe area. I think it's a better feel this way. Hope this helps. Respectfully, Ed
Great video Ed! Neutral on my Freewheeler can be an adventure! Will try your suggestion. Also, it will start with foot brake depressed instead of hand brake. Also, I put adjustable PSR brake and clutch levers on my FW.. Keep posting Ed..not enough Trike posts!!
Hey Bill, my 2020 didn't have the heel shifter either but before it left the showroom I had them put the heel shifter on. I think it took maybe 3-4 minutes and the dealership didn't charge me...well we know we got charged for sure :-) The shifter pegs I got off of Amazon. Here is the description I just got from the Amazon page: V-factor Foot Shift Pegs for all models. The current price each is $15.19 each. The dimension is 3-3/4" x 1" OD. I hope this helps Bill. Take care, Ed
Just found your channel and enjoy the videos. I'm a youngin at 45 but with my wife wanting to ride more, my heritage isn't as comfortable as she would like. I have weak ankles so don't feel comfortable with a big cruiser so thinking this is a good solution. Rode one once at a demo ride but plan and trying some more out. Doing some research I've found many more young people are riding trikes. Great videos. I'll keep watching.
Hey Aaron I had a 2006 Heritage Softail, that I purchased in 2016. Then in 2019 I purchased a Electra Glide Ultra and in July of last year I got the Tri-Glide. Wish I would have gotten one years ago!
I just bought this very trike in the same color. I was waiting for a 2022 but th PA assembly plant closing stopped all shipments. So my salesman called me and said we have a 2020 being traded as we speak with only 3500 miles. I drove the 90 miles to my dealership and we did the deal. My first trike and I absolutely love it. Thanks for the video I'm a new subscriber
Donald I hate to hear that the York PA plant closed. I always thought I'd like to go tour that facility. Also hand salute to a fellow vet!!! Ride safe brother! Ed

@@TriGlideEd I don't believe it's closed for good. It's because of the supply chain and getting parts to finish these motorcycles so they can't ship them.
Hey Ed, question for you when you get time...regarding parking. As an example: When you get to the Harley dealership and all the two wheelers are backed in, do you use reverse upon arriving or do you just pull in to a spot and back out when you are leaving? Or, does the circumstance dictate your parking preference? Have a great weekend! Rich
Good question RJ. The parking lot at our H-D dealer is sloped. So I usually either just pull straight into a slot in front of the building and drift back when I leave. Or I pull up then roll back to the lower part of the lot. I really don’t have to use reverse a whole lot and when I do it’s not for a long distance. I’ve seen to many horror stories about that reverse messing up.
Hey Ed....enjoy your videos very much. I'm a senior rider enjoying my second Harley trike. Purchased my first one 8 years ago. Put the floor board spacers and noticed the longer ones on ur trike. Not having any luck finding ones listed for Harley trikes. Did you have to replace the center bolt to match threads to the arm ? We appreciate you time and ideas..
Hey Kenny first thank you for watching my videos. Know that it is greatly appreciated. But my floor boards are stock. Now my shifter pegs are after market longer ones. Is this what you meant? Take care, Ed

Going into reverse is not my problem. Getting out of reverse seems to evade me. I just turn the bike off and restart. I rarely use reverse, regardless.
@@kenhawkins1033 Ken I'm not a mechanic but I would sure try it once. But again I ain't a mechanic and it's just my opinion. Let me know the outcome please. Respectfully, Ed
Greetings, enjoyed your video. We used to have a 2014 HD Tri-Glide, but it was time for a change. So we purchased a pre-owned 2014 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited and couldn't be happier! We find the ride to be so much superior to the Tri-Glide. My Wife has a bad back and felt every bump in the road, with the Tri-Glide. With the Spyder, she has not felt a single bump or jarring effect. And that is with the Spyder's stock suspension! Safe Travels. 🙂🏍🇨🇦
