I do all these steps to make my make up last... and yes I learned it from you. But let me just add for those of us that have older dryer skin...after your done and you look dry... a good spray of the catrice dewy glow just bring enough moisture back in and it looks great. I use it not so much for setting but to take the dry and powdery look off. It’s perfect and you can totally wet your face with it and let it dry and BAM you look like younger healthy moisturized skin after all the powdering. It’s the bomb especially on us over 60 girls! Let me also add that even when you have a. Little flaking from your tretinoin that seems to come out sometimes when you powder... the dewy glow spray makes it melt back in... I can’t live without it... and it’s inexpensive... just a tip from your 64 year old fan! You can’t even imagine how much you e helped me Steph, thank you and God Bless you!

I love using the sponge now to set my make up with setting powder. Oh my god what a game changer. As somebody who has worked through the pandemic at the retail level and had to wear a mask every day my make up was always on the inside of my mask. I tried this technique the other day and absolutely no transfer! I was floored. I tried it again the next day and the same result. Unbelievable! Thank you thank you thank you! I am 57 With an extremely oily tea zone and dry Under eyes. So grateful for these tips

Hi Stephanie. Brown-skinned woman here who loves your channel! We seem to have the same combination skin type - somewhat oily but w dry areas too - and I use Laura Mercier as a setting powder and then ELF high definition as a finishing powder. Great video!

@antoinettechevalier2453
@antoinettechevalier2453 2 года назад
@@jujubelooga Hi Miss Mishra. Back when I was doing this method, it did not look cakey: I would only use the setting powder at oily areas; and the ELF finishing powder is super fine, so a light dusting over my whole face just blended everything nicely. Nowadays (2 years later!), I've stopped using all powders, for the most part -- just a bit of Laura Mercier for special occasions. I find that using a good primer ( Smashbox original formula) before I do my under-eye concealer (I don't use foundation), then a high-quality blending brush to smooth any harsh lines between contour, blush, etc is all I need. Good luck to you!

I have normal to dry skin, and I find powders by By Terry, Glossier Wowder, and No. 7 are excellent (and span 3 price points). They set the makeup and are hydrating - so you don't look dry, powdery, and old. I avoided powders for years, and that was a mistake. Also, using the damp sponge to apply powders makes a huge, positive difference.

My "look" has been evolving over the past few years. At first I was all about full coverage matte, now it is medium dewy. You have lead me in this direction. Dewy shear foundations that I "hated" at first, have resurfaced to become faves thanks to the techniques you share with us. I'm using the Tatty Blendafull to press in my setting powder. It's amazing how my makeup lasts by taking this extra step. Now, I just need to add a finishing powder. Thank you, Stephanie.

Incredible how the finishing powder made everything muvh smoother. I normally use setting spray, but yeah, the alcohol is killing my skin. As for my favorite setting powder: Sensai Translucent Setting Powder. Hands down my favorite of all time, very finely mild, silky and doesn't disrupt my foundation. Haven't found anything remotely close. As for finishing powders... Well, I think I'm gonna have to find myself one.

I just tried her technique for powder with a damp sponge and oh my God! Wow wee wow wee wow wee!I had no idea. As a person that has had to work through this entire pandemic and wear a mask every day my make up has always ended up all over my mask. I wear a double wear foundation and I just use a setting powder on top. I tried her technique with the sponge the other day and I had no transfer onto the mask whatsoever. Maybe a tiny bit on the bridge of my nose where it was under my glasses. I was so shocked that I actually applied more make up and more powder for the afternoon to try it again. Again no transfer mind blown…

This is fantastic info Stephanie that so many need. It took me awhile to figure out the difference between the 2 types of powders, and was a game changer for me when I did !!!!! Unlike your skin tho, my skin is extremely dry and about 20 years older than yours LOL ;-) I do use a damp sponge to apply my setting powder. The only time it doesn't work quite as well, is if the foundation is very matte or a dryer formula. Then with a still damp sponge, I'll also spray the sponge with a hydrating setting spray, then press the powder in. Works like a charm !!!! Thanks so very much for a well thought out video with everything explained beautifully. Have a super wonderful week sweetie. Hugsss ❤❤❤❤

Such a great informational video. I don't use setting spray either because they dry out my skin. My favorite setting powders these days are Laura Mercier, Coty airspun, hourglass, and Charlotte Tilbury Flawless finish. It's crazy that the Coty is in my list of favorites but I actually like it more than my Viseart and no 7.

Me too! Even if my skin is suffering a rosacea flare up and is ultra dehydrated, I feel unfinished without powder. I just up the hydrating products under my makeup, gently rub away any flaky areas with a towel when I dry my face and then I am ok to go. Pressing the powder in with a damp sponge really helps too. Less buffing with a brush which can irritate and lift up flakes on the skin. Then a hydrating spray to finish off.

Elf makes a pretty good HD finishing pressed powder. Essence also makes an All About Matt fixing powder that's okay, but it doesn't last as long. But since I use so very little of my favorite (IT Bye Bye Pores Anti-Age HD), I'm willing to pay the extra because it lasts so long. It's absolutely worth the $29 (and I'm stingy.)

I had to come back and really thank you again. I really never knew there was a difference. I use setting spray to lock in my look and it helps very much with my combo oily skin plus I’m 58 years old. I never really like the feeling very much though. The thought of using a finishing powder and done, really appeals to me. So, I’ll keep my setting sprays because they work, but for everyday wear, I feel the finishing powder will work best for me. 😊👍

Why is it that some powders just ruin my foundation/concealer? I also like to use the damp sponge technique, but whenever I use it under my eyes, it starts to look really cakey. I wonder what Im doing wrong, or is it the powder? This always happens when I use my Laura Mercier bright eyes powder.

I typically use cream bronzer, blush and highlighter. Do I just use a finishing powder and skip the setting powder? I was just wondering if I used both setting and finishing powder over my cream color products, it would almost make the colors invisible or too light. If I should just use a finishing powder, should I use a brush? I apologize for ALL of these questions! Thank you for this VERY informative video!!

I've found that setting with a damp sponge works beautifully for me. If I don't do it may makeup runs off in around 3 hours. I dab my face several times between corrector, concealer, foundation, and powder. It's a must for me. I wanted to say my mother really went to town with the powder as I remember. She had a huge bath powder puff she applied it with liberally! I was born in 1959 and she was 1933 I believe and modeled in her 20's. I recall her telling me as a teenager to get a compact and powder my 🐽👃 nose that it's very important!

Stephanie! Thank you and bless you! I watch many of your videos for us uh hm “more mature ladies”. I’ve watched many of your videos for us uh hm “more mature ladies” but have never commented before. I am very grateful to you for doing this video. I’ve ALWAYS loved make up. But about a year ago I started to notice the fine lines, etc. I’ve truly been blessed with very nice skin (even at 53), but started to realize that I needed to change my make up application game. Slowly, I have been trying to re-learn new techniques and application. My biggest (and only) problem is my under eyes. And I have to admit, I WAS a bit confused about powders because I’ve never had to use them in the past because again I’ve been blessed with nice skin. I saw this when it was posted and I had to send you a mssg about what I have discovered. Since your makeup advice hasn’t steered me wrong before , I decided to drop my previous hangup w finishing powder and try again. I have dry skin and I am over 40 and I have used in past and found it to be aging. I was holding onto Mac Mineralized skin finish in Medium bc I heard great reviews and knew since I hated it I had to be doing it wrong LOL. I have other powders too. After following yr tips and most importantly adding more moisturizer ..which seems to solve everything (light layers) U ARE RIGHT!!!! My makeup stays on perfectly around my nose and everywhere now!! Even when I need to wear a mask at store due to outbreak..blows my mind. 🤗Thank you so much ..People don’t realize how much little things like this change the way you see yourself and your whole day. My make up looks diffused and really pretty now it was the thing that was missing. Hi Stephanie, 58 with oily combo skin, I have lots of powders and have almost every powder you have recommended, high and low end. Love the Charlotte Tilbury and my most used is IT Bye Bye Pores (loose and pressed) with the IT Ball Wand brush. I have an irrational fear of application of setting powder with a damp sponge. Will definitely try today. Question, looks fine with loose powder in a cap but will a damp sponge ruin your pressed powders??

I've watched all 3 of your videos on powders and how to use them. I'm now on my second viewing. So helpful but there are so many options I'm still trying to sort them out. Whew! Thank you for covering this topic so thoroughly.

Thank you Stephanie! Game changer for me! I'm oily combo with mature skin. I either used too much powder or not enough. Your method is perfect for my skin!! I also watched your linked concealer video. Exactly what I needed. I was getting so frustrated with attempts to lessen the look of fine lines. Thank you 😊

I am 48 and do this too! I hydrate my skin well using essences, serums, oils, moisturisers, and hydrating foundations and primers beforehand. I then set with bare minerals mineral veil, elf HD powder, Too faced peach powder, Innisfree no sebum powder or Laura Mercier transclucent setting powder using a damp sponge. Really pressing it in to the skin. Pores are blurred, shine is removed and skin is velvety smooth. I then gently dust on Mac mineralised skin finish natural or Maybelline fit me powder with the softest brush. All over. Giving a soft effect, a tad more coverage and a dab of colour. A dewy spray to finish and my skin is glorious and usually lasts all day, with a blot and quick dab of powder at midday. I don't look overly shiny, not do I look matte and flat either. It's the best my skin has looked for a good while 🙂

Also, the foundation I have fallen in love with is the Maybelline dream radiant liquid foundation. The best I've ever used! It covers all my rosacea, but never looks cakey. It builds beautifully and blends like a dream. No dry flaky bits, no tightness and no oily areas either. It lasts all day and sets well with powder. I will never stray!

Hi Stephanie, Well I tried it 2 days in a raw and I am really impressed , my makeup was locked in all day long what a difference my friend 😱 at the end of the day it was literally like I just did my makeup I didn’t purchase any powders because I am waiting for your list 😉 so I used ones that I already had: the Jeffree star setting powder in translucent and a nofilter finishing from NYX in medium, I am not convinced by the NYX one but the result is still amazing. I don’t think I can do my makeup in another way now 🤗 This is one of the better trick I have ever tried and so easy to perform so thank you so much Stephanie ❤️ Have a lovely day!

Hi Steph, grest video. but still confused. so you use the setting powder, then go in with the finishing powder as well, to blur the pores or textures. so both powders ?

Hey Stephanie! very useful video!:) I was wondering what if I don't overdo my make up, will the setting powder take away some of the make up? since in your case it was useful to take it away, but we dont always overdo it:)

I use Laura Mercier setting powder and Bare Minerals pressed powder to finish. I don't use a sponge and as often as I should. I tend to go over it with a damp sponge after I put it on with a brush. I am definitely going to try it. Have a great day..❌✖❌

You are not alone! I have been using the setting powder as my finishing powder but not really sure when to apply. I am not sure 🤔 what the difference is between the ingredients of setting vs finishing powders. Now I have to look that up too 😂

@maren807
@maren807 4 года назад
@@daniellyons2017 Hi! No, they don't enhance my texture. I use a light hand and a fluffy (not dense at all) brush to apply them. They bring the most amazing but subtle glow to my skin. Hope that helps 🤗.

I use the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Anti-Age HD loose powder and I apply it with the Elf Flawless face brush. I press it in and v. gently buff. I get compliments all the time on my "perfect" skin, but I didn't get those comments before I started using finishing powder. I will NEVER. go. back. I also use IT Bye Bye Pores illumination to set my under-eye.

Hey! This is a great video! Thanks for the thoroughness in explanation. I like the idea of using a damp sponge to meld the powder with the base. Idk why I hadn’t thought of that. I like way too many powders, haha. CT both pressed and loose. Laura Mercier finishing loose powder for setting and her illuminating pressed one. ItCosmetics loose powder for when I’m not taking pics but need more mattifying. Hourglass veil...and ambient ones as well. All so good and for different reasons. Looking forward to future videos. 🙌🏻

Very helpful video. I also prefer a dampened sponge to set my under eyes; I feel like since it’s damp it doesn’t leave a cakey look but it also helps keep the powder in place more than a brush. Love the Charlotte Tilbury powder for high-end and from the drugstore I like No. 7 translucent and Cody Airspun (minus the scent lol) and then the Hourglass Ambient powder to finish. Got the CT bc of your recommendation. Thanks Stephanie 😍👍

thanks v much for explaining so well. im in my forties, i understood primers very easily n wow they make a big difference, thanks for explaining these new terms, im just use to cream/liquid foundation and then loose powder over it, no terms of setting nor finishing, just loose powder or compact powder n i was getting really confused by the terms setting and finishing.

Just bought the Mac powder due to your recommendation, I used to link to get to the Sonia G Face One brush but I’m not seeing a Face One brush listed. There’s a flat top buffing brush. Is that the same brush but renamed? It’s an expensive brush. I hate to take the chance it’s the wrong one.

I do not use primer because I have not found one that I like and that goes best with my dry mature skin. (I’ll be 67 in December ) same thing with setting and finishing powder. Do you recommend the same products you’re using even though you have combination skin? I need help. I just changed my concealer into a hydrating one but it has a glow or shine that or leaves. It makes sense to use a setting powder. Thank you and I’ll be waiting for your response..

Hi Delia! When I recommend products, I always state what skin type I think they'd be best for or if I think dry skin would like them. If it's an under eye product, I have dry under eyes, so you're all set there! 🥰
