Great video. I got the DJI mic to use with a GoPro, then when setting it up it seemed like I needed the additional mediamod which adds cost and complication to the set up. Just what I needed to know with this video.
I have the media adapter (not the media mod) with the Gopro Hero 12 and I tested the audio stored in the mic compared with the audio embedded in the video and the audio embedded is better with less noise (probably some processing in the Gopro?), the audio stored in the mic has low volume (this is a bug in the firmware that till today DJI didn´t solve) and I needed to amplify 14.5 db to be at the same level of the embedded audio, the noise level was amplified too. The audio in the video is 32 bits and the one stored in the mic is 24 bits. I prefer to use the media adapter even if its a little cumbersome.
That's interesting. Normally the audio on the transmitter should be the cleanest, because it's the source that is also transmitted over the air if I'm not mistaken. And usually more processing is added along the way until it enters the audio unit of the camera. But in the end it doesn't matter - if you tested and find the other way works for you, it's great. That's the best anyways, don't just take what some RU-vidrs do to be the only way ;-)
I don't know what model of GoPro you have. I have the Hero 8 with the Media Mod. The Media Mod lets me plug my Rode Wireless Go receiver right into the GoPro so the sound records directly to the GoPro video. Hero 9 and 10 also have an available media mod. That said: a couple of times, the GoPro failed to record audio. I don't know if it's the GoPro, media mod, or Rode receiver that's at fault. Unfortunately, I have the original Wireless Go without audio backup. I definitely need to upgrade to either the Wireless Go 2 or the DJI, which I hear is a little better, to get backup audio in the receiver.
I have the GoPro 7 and I don't own a media pod. Also, I wanted to keep things as simple as possible in the field, which the shown technique allows me to do. If I film with the Canon and I'm farther away from the camera I use the receiver and directly record the audio though.
Thanks for the video. One of the problems I have been having is.... When I create a backup recordin file and bring into video editing software the volume is so low I can't use it even when pushing up the volume
Thanks for the video I have the Gopro Hero 10 and media mod but looking for an easy and better audio solution (I have little experience editing and still learning and use Capcut and Capcut pro) Is there any specific audio editing that you have to do with the dji mic or when exporting footage from the GoPro to a laptop? Does it all get exported together like as it would if just using the Gopro internal mics? Thanks for your help
In the video I show how to do it: 1) copy gopro video file to PC/Mac 2) copy audio fie from DJI mic to PC/Mac 3) open Davinci Resolve (free) 4) Import audio and video files 5) "Auto-sync audio based on Waveform" It's all in the video Davinci Resolve is easy to use, if you just want to do basic cutting afterward. But it's also powerful to fulfill all your editing needs. Give it a try
Really appreciate your reply and I did watch the whole video, which is great, but I really didn't want to do any audio editing post, I just wanted better audio quality to go with my gopro footage, as its the video footage I like to edit Am I right in saying that the dji receiver, when connected to my gopro will bake in the better audio anyway, so when I export my footage to my laptop I should already have better audio quality as that's all I'm trying to achieve? Thanks again
@@Mikes_Travels If the Gopro Media Mod allows you to connect the DJI mic receiver, then yes, you should get the audio baked in. But since I don't have the media mod, I cannot speak from experience here. It's just an assumption.
Thanks for posting, Micheal! I have a quick question. If I have the DJI mic plugged into the gopro, do I also have the option of using audio from the built in mic on the gopro at the same time? I want to be able to use a DJI mic at a distance from the gopro as well as the built in mic with both mic sources recorded to my gopro. Is that possible? Thank you. .
Hello Randy, honestly I have no idea. I don't connect the dji mic directly to the Gopro, because this would complicate my system too much. I don't know if this is even possible - maybe with the media mod.
When we connect dji to gopro with media mod, do we have to change any settings? Like activate external mic or smt like that? I see some options, which r standard, powered n etc
I use Davinci Resolve. It's free and quite mighty in terms of features. But I still find it relatively easy to use, because the interface is designed so you can use just a subset of the features. They have a simple media import, and then a great quick cutting section. If you get better with the software there's an advanced cutting window, Special efects, audio processing and more. There are great tutorials available online for this software.
Just bought dii to use whilst motorbike vlogging i plug a rode lab II into one of the tx and then connect the RX to my go pro 11 med mod via the supplied cable it all wks BUT !!!!!!! i there any way you can stop the std mic on the TX from picking up audio when the LAV mic is plugged into it? Its seems mad that it picks up audio from both th std mic an sth elav mic at same time but it does? Therefore all i get is wind noise as the std rx is attached to y m/c helmet an dthelav mic is inside my helmet but plug into the std tx unit.. Thanks D
I don't have the media pod. Are you sure that the audio is captured by the transmitter and not somehow by the Gopro media pod? If you use a lav-mic then it should be the only audio input. I tested this with my mic in the beginning but have since ditched the lav mic, since it doesn't make sense for my use. Best double check in a controlled environment and contact DJI in case you get audio input from both
@@mibreit-photo think ive sorted it the mics were set for auto record turned that off and i now think it wks as only law mic. That said i still think the mic is active but turned down.
I was posting my question everywhere and clearly nobody has an answer to my question, not even the self proclaimed 'GoPro experts'. They have no idea what I'm talking about. So, I was hoping you can provide me of the correct answer. Now, we all know the GoPro media mod is a worthless add-on simply because those microphones are terrible. So, I need to use my own external microphone. My question is this: Can I use a USB-C splitter on the Hero 11 so I can simultaneously connect the Volta and an external microphone like the Rode Wireless Go2 or the DJI Mic? Will it work? Thanks!
Hello Izak, I don't have the Gopro addon and also not one of the latest Gopros. But why overcomplicate things? As I show in the video it's very easy to sync audio from any external microphone to the Gopro Audio after the fact. It surely would be nice to directly record the audio into the Gopro, but it would also make the setup more complicated.
@@mibreit-photo Hi Michael, thanks for your fast reply - much appreciated. I agree, I want to make things really simple, not complicate it. So, as I understand and to make 100% sure, I can record everything WITHOUT having to connect the DJI Mic directly into my camera? No wire connections whatsoever, right? So, everything will literally be 100% wireless, then I can just sync the video with the audio afterwards?
@@izakniemann5734 Exactly, the only thing you have to make sure is that you also record audio with the default Gopro / Camera Microphone so you can sync to it later. This audio does not have to be high quality and for a vlogging scenario it always works. If you have your camera farther away, you can start the recording by a "one, two, three, check" while you are closer to the camera, which you can then use to synch in post.
@@mibreit-photo Thank you! My wife and I will have two YT channels, one about our life journey as travellers where we will speak, and the other channel will be a food channel - outside food for two people travelling where we will only record the natural sounds of environment, the food making, etc. I will have to figure out everything as this will be a very first for me.
this is just because gopro is stupid enough to not inclue an audio jack on the camera itself ( inside the battery door ) you need additional dongle which in that case you can not attach the camera to a power bank neither. they force you to get media mod which has crap mic so you have to buy additional mic on top of it. gopro do a proper metal case media mod to get rid of heat sink and put proper 3 way mic with nose cancellation and wind reduction i dont care if it costs more than 100 dollar.
Yes, it's annoying that there is no easy audio solution and you have to get all those add-ons. But to be honest, just using the dji mic works very well for me, since it's such a small device and so easy to use. Synching in Davinci is also solid. But yes, I also wish I wouldn't need two devices. But in the end, the Gopro is just an action camera ;-)
