I understood the relationship between c and a in theory, but after this lesson, I understand actually the use of this theory. Thank you Corey. This was a fantastic lesson for me.
Great lesson, I just recently got the connection between major and minor pentatonics. Real eye opener. I was trying to play over Tennessee Whiskey and could not get the sound until I started with the major pentatonic. It’s definitely a journey and not a destination.
Thanks Corey, you have the best personality for teaching and demonstrating!! Always enjoyed your Martin guitar videos and finally came across your own channel.
Wow... That E Major/c# m sounds so amazing. Im so.happy, so many Years. This Video opened my Vision. Now i know why it sounds like Music Unbelievable. It makes me so happy. Just enjoy ✌.
Im someone who has messed about playing songs with just straightforward chords on a beat up 30 odd year old acoustic for years. Never watched or had a guitar lesson my life. Then I stumbled upon Corey on you tube. Now I always thought lead was somthing other people played not me. But in just a Couple of months these lessons have totally opened up my playing. Working single note melody's into my strumming. Thanks so much. The way it's described and linked together is so easy to understand. Really given me the confidence that I can learn and play more than just chords. Like a door has been opened. Can't say thanks enough for this inspiration. 👌👌👌👍👍👍
Brilliant explanation Corey. It's so good to see you explain using the actual notes and not just pinky on the 5th 2nd fret etc. I understand this is how many learn but I had to learn the notes and their positions. It has taken me years.
Pinky on the blabla teaches nothing. It's like learning a monkey a trick. Understanding the notes and more importantly the intervals, and how these connect into the caged system (triads) and the scale.
im getting so much out of these video's. i had just worked i can now play the major scale along side the relative minor / major pentatonic scale and i have been playing for years. This piece of learning really changes the 'vibe' on what i can now play once i know what key im playing in.. thank you for confirming thisrecent piece of learning.
There are so many videos out there about major and minor pentatonic. Although I already know these, I subscribed to your channel because you explained it more concisely and better than any other I’ve seen. Well done. You’ve done a service to the guitar community!
This is an awesome video mate. As you mentioned "relative minor" I googled "Einstein about music" as I wanted to see if he mention music in his relativity theory and the first thing on top is a quote of him saying " Life without playing music is inconceivable for me" .." I see my life in terms of music".. To learn music is the best thing one can do.Thank you for sharing!!🎸🎶🙂
Truly the best teacher ever, no lie, just fact. Any chance of posting the tab for that little 1 chord jam?, several real nice tidbits in there. Never stop teaching, you're the BEST
Hi! Corey I'm from Australia, 70 years of age, played guitar since teenage 3 cord rhythm song only. I've just started to watch your lessons a month ago, wow the way you explain your method it's mind blowing, hey my memory is not that good any more, but you have thought me more then my brain can retain. Thank you.
Corey…. You are awesome! We all get into our minor pentatonic scales, in our mixing of major and minor in the blues… But a straight up beautiful major feel is so beautiful! Thank you!
Corey, I just discovered you from True Fire. So far, I think you have the best courses on True Fire. I played a bit when I was a teenager, then quit, and picked up guitar again in retirement. Your courses and videos are great! Liked, subscribed and a paying customer via True Fire.
Very useful to do a simple exercise before you practice...to learn all the notes on the fret board! You will be able to utilizing lessons like this much more easily. If you have to “figure” out where any specific note is, you can’t “target” that note on the fly. Like how this lesson is broken down. KISS
Mr Congilio, I have been playing with the minor pentatonic for some time now, and because of this lesson, I've now played my first jam with major pentatonic. Many, many thanks for your lesson!
My guitar playing has improved dramatically thanks to how and what you teach. I am truly greatfull to you Corey. Thankyou so very much. You are so much more than just a great guitar player.
What's really interesting is to play 4 bars of Cmaj, 4 bars of Am and 8 bars of D7 over the soloing you were doing in the middle of this video. There's a mixolydian connection there as well. Always great instruction, Corey.
Sir , this was a very useful lesson. I am going to buy the Major pentatonic course right away. I wass really struggling with major. I can play it but it doesn't always sound right. Thank you for your help.
Thanks for this one Cory! Love all the lessons you put out on truefire, udemy, thursdays etc. If I can add a pinch of Cory to my playing it sounds so much better!
Thank you for a really important video. Coming from someone who played acoustic guitar forever and only got into electric in the last couple years, these types of videos are very helpful making a meaningful transition from harmony to melody. I have seen so many instructors relate everything to minor keys because most blues is played with dominate 7th cords (a flat 7 of the major scale) and that works with minor pentatonic. It makes sense for ease, but then they are constantly giving confusing information of how to play over chord progressions and why some notes work and others don't rather than start at the major scale, like you did here, and talk about why certain scale degrees change rather than jumping into memorizing modes or boxes. I love the tension of those half steps that are left out of pentatonic. Any sus2 or sus4 wants to resolve because of that half step tension and it's easier to learn why when you think in terms of the major scale. I hope this video gets viewed a lot because I think it's a better starting point for a beginner than one focused on minor pentatonic.
Thank you Sir for helping me with my guitar struggle. I meet you about a year ago at the Underdog and you played phenomenally well that night. You are a big inspiration and a great teacher. Keep up the awesome work dude..
Ok, I think you just fixed everything I have been doing....... only perhaps one problem. I don't mind the Em scale over major. On to the next video and may be even some private lessons.
Very good lesson. A key learning point for me is the selecting a good progression that lends itself to sticking with the major pentatonic scale through out the tune. So much good bending opportunity that I broke a string on this lesson!
Thank you Corey! I've been watching all kinds of videos about this stuff the past several days trying to figure it out and this was by far the best one. Made the most sense. Excited to watch more of your vids!
Hi Corey, found you thanks to Jonathan & Fret Buzz. Great lesson. This video hit for me. I feel like I just got my 1 year chip - started Jan 1 2020. I have spent a year just building dexterity and noodling in the minor scale. Just starting to play more Major and learn the intervals. Then @ 12:28 I got stopped down, and that is how I will spend my day; trying to learn that...
Corey. Thanks again for everything that you do. Great livestreams on Thursdays at 2pm et. This is a great follow-up to your lesson that was live-streamed this past week, as well as in weeks past where you address major-minor pentatonic and blues scales. Great work and excellent courses as well. Happy Thanksgiving. Sam.
Very helpful and clear explanation. Theory and practice is easily understood. I like the way you incorporate examples to your comments on harmony. Thank you Corey!
Great video Corey, I find these much more useful than the live streams which TBH I find a bit rambling, each to their own of course, Im sure many others prefer the live shows.
i actually managed to play along with the backing tracks. just following coreys advice. i think the secret is chord tones and the good players know this. many thanks for the lesson. you have a great presenters tone to your voice and manage to say alot and hold the audience in my opinion. quite a gift . well done you. keep shining with helping others. God bless you
Ah i had a problem when I first learned the pentatonic. I was taught like you said the minor pent and thought that was the only pentatonic scale. And i learned it and loved it. But s bit later i heard about the major pent when I was learning blues and had not idea what was happening. I think it’s important to see why they go hand in hand instead of just rushing the learning.
