@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Hey Melissa thank you for useful information. I have a few questions if you could help How long to wait between BHA and niacinamide. I have PC BHA and TO niacinamide. I have read somewhere that you have to wait for 30 minutes And do you use niacinamide on damp skin as it is easy to spread on damp skin. Thanks
@@zahidarafiq7793 Hello 🙂 There is no need to wait long in between. (30 seconds to 1minute) The products do not interact with each other. You can use Niacinamide on dry or on damp skin, but make sure not to apply it on wet skin :)
Hi Melissa, first things first I ABSOLUTELY love your channel. You explain everything so well, your voice is very calming and you are a lovely person🥰 It’s incredibly how much work and effort you put into your videos, we appreciate it a lot. Hey Luna! Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback about my videos! I really appreciate it and I'm thankful for it!❤️ I do my best to cover as much as I can in a video so that the instructions are clear and easy to understand! I'm glad that they are helpful for you and that I managed to deliver it so well!❤️
This is the best thing I have seen on RU-vid today. I have been searching for channels to help me with my skin routine. Thank God!!! Thank you so much for this video, Melissa.
I should've watched your video before trying the Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide tonight, i applied it like serum 😅 thank you for being so informative and taking the time to show us how to use each product

Hi Melissa. Great job as usual🙂. What are some great antioxidants from the Ordinary or other brands, that we can implement in our daily skincare routine, when & how should they be used? Thanks.
Oh I absolutely LOVE the Ordinary morsturizer. I have combination skin as well, but I put it all over my face cause it just absorbs so well! It just sucks that they only sell it in such small tubes :(
Thank you so much this! Could you use a moisturizer at the Pm with retinol in it or is that harmful? Thanks for all your amazing info and great demonstrations 💕🧼
You can use a moisturizer, such as the one from The Ordinary, as the last step if you feel the need. Essentially, you should adjust this based on your skin type and, of course, your personal preference :)
I LOVE the Vitamin C in Suspension and have been using it for a couple of years now. It makes my skin glow :) I just wasn't sure if it was bad for my nose. Ill maybe tone it down and just use everywhere but my nose to see if it makes a difference. Thanks again for EVERYTHING :)@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
Hey Melissa I wanted your opinion on this skin routine 1. La roche-posay purifying foaming cleanser 2.bha liquid exfoliant 3. Niacinamide 4. Natural moisturizing factors And on the day I’m not using bha can I replace it with azelaic acid 10% suspension brightening ?
Hello Naomi, Yes, you can do that. And if your skin isn't sensitive, you may be able to use BHA and Azelaic Acid in the same routine. (I mean, just if you like to, there is no need to do that)
Hey! :) No, you can skip it! :) However, in this video I used TO Moisturizer, with includes natural moisturizing factors that help strengthen the skin barrier.
Hi! If my cleanser has niacinamide in it (it’s the CeraVe foaming facial cleanser), can I follow up with the paula’s choice 2% BHA liquid exfoliant and then the ordinary niacinamide serum? I’m just wondering if it’s ok to do niacinamide, bha, and then niacinamide again. Loved the video btw
It's more about the amount. But if you do everything carefully, there shouldn't be an issue. Worst case it may cause a bit of redness/itching which goes away after 30-60minutes. You need to test it. Based on my experience, you can. Also this video may be useful for you. Hi! Love this video, it was exactly what I needed. Will definitely be subscribing! 💕💕At the end of my PM routine could I layer moisturisers or should I just stick with one? ❤️
Hey :) This depends on your skin type. But generally speaking, you only need to use one moisturizer. If you have very oily skin, you can skip it or just use a gel or hydrating serum 🙂 But I am curious why would you want to layer them 🤔?
Usually, I recommend using Exfoliating Acids like Salicylic Acid (BHA) in the evening because it can make your skin sensitive to the sun when not wearing sunscreen when being exposed to the sun during day time. However, you can use both (Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide) in the AM and/or PM which depends on what works best for your skin! You may want to start with using it once per day for a few weeks before changing it.
Hello Mélissa, thanks for all your videos, I have an oily skin and these are the ordinary products I have : salicylique acide, Niacinamide, hyaluronic, Alpha Arbutin, Lactic acid 5%, Glucolic acide, vitamine C 23% , peeling solution and salicylic masque ...please tell how do I make good routines with them 🙏🏼

Do you want to do a double cleanser? That usually involves an oil or balm cleanser followed by a normal/regular cleanser. So using to CeraVe regular cleansers after another isn't the right way to do it. But I mean, if you like it, just continue. Personally, I would use one in the morning and the other in the evening. Hey Melissa, at what point would I apply my under eye caffeine solution. My pm routine: - cleanser - Paulas choice SA - niacinamide -hyaluronic acid Where would he under eye solution fit in pls
Which is better to apply first Salicylic Acid or Niacinamide? I saw an article saying that Niacinamide should be applied first before Salicylic Acid. What is your take on this?
No, you always apply the Salicylic Acid Solution before Niacinamide to remove/loosen the dead skin cells so that the product can absorb better into the skin. But what article are you referring to?
Hey! Yes, the order of application is correct. Just keep in mind that Paula's Choice 2% BHA is not a toner; it is a leave-on exfoliant. How often you use Paula's Choice 2% BHA depends on your skin and what works and feels best for you! You may want to start using it 2-3 times per week before using it may be more often :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much.actually I'm just planning on using the Paulas's choice 2% BHA cause,I'm having a breakout and it is my first time to use a BHA. I have a combination skin. So thanks for the tip 😊😊
Hi! i have a question on how to balance hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and salicylic acid on the same daily week routine? Btw love all your vids. its very helpful, thanks 👀💕
Hey :) AM Routine Daily: - Cleanse - Hyaluronic Acid - Niacinamide - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse - Salicylic Acid (2-3 times per week) - Hyaluronic Acid - (Optional) Moisturiser This would be a great AM and PM Routine. You can use your AM and PM Routine daily, however, if you are new to Salicylic Acid - don't forget to do a patch-test and start slowly. Use it 2-3 times per week for a while before using it more often during the week.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet hi Melissa I know I'm late but I just stumbled on your video while researching products. Could you explain why you should only use salicylic acid and niacinimde twice per day but one in the am and the other in the pm rather than together?
hi Melissa, its me from nepal. i have been caring my skin this way daily - cerave foaming facial cleasner - niacinamide serum - salicyclic acid serum - moisturizer - sunscreen and same routine goes at evening except sunscreen. is this routine ok?
Hello Suni from Nepal 🇳🇵 If you can tolerate the acid twice a day, then yes, you can use it. However, the order of application you suggested is not correct. The correct order should be: Cerave foaming facial cleanser Salicylic acid serum (as an exfoliant) Niacinamide serum Moisturizer Sunscreen But, my suggestion would be: AM: Cerave foaming facial cleanser Niacinamide serum Moisturizer (optional, try with and without to see what works best) Sunscreen PM: Cerave foaming facial cleanser Salicylic acid serum (as an exfoliant) Moisturizer (optional, try with and without to see what works best) If you have oily skin, make sure to use a suitable gel moisturizer. Most often, creams or even lotions are way too heavy and cause more issues than doing good.
Hello Could you please advice if it’s safe to use Paulas 2% Bha and the ordinary 10% niacinnamide for night time routine everyday for acne spots on the face till it clears?
Your skin may become dry or irritated at the beginning of the treatment. To prevent this, you may use the BHA less often at first and then gradually begin to use the product more often after your skin has adjusted to it. 🙂
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Yeah I started with 3 times a week for almost 3 weeks and then started using it every night and it hasn’t caused any irritation but even working better now. My acne spots that were really dark have almost cleared completely! Thank you so much. Your videos have really helped me 😁🤗
Hi dear Melissa , I love your videos 😍 these are really very informative and you put a lot of effort 🤩. I’m about to start a skin care routine. I’m 36 and having a combination skin like when I wake up my face is full of oil 🤪 I’ve big open pores mild acne blemishes etc so as per my research I finalize the following skin care routine for myself please have a look at it and kindly suggest me any changes that should be made. Morning 1.Gentle cleanser (ordinary squalene) 2.Hyaluronic acid on damp skin ( ordinary or la roche with b5) 3.moisturizer 4.niacin amide (ordinary) Night routine 1. Face wash 2. Salicylic Acid 2%( ordinary) And vitamin C on alternative nights ( one night BHA other night Vitamin C 3. Moisturizer if needed Please do suggest me which vitamin C I should use. I’m waiting for your reply anxiously.
Hello Ayesha, The order of the application is not correct. How did you get the Salicylic Acid 2% from The ordinary? Because that one is already out of stock for two years or so 🤔 1. Gentle cleanser (ordinary squalene) 2. The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid or La Roche Posay (damp or dry makes no difference; it is already saturated, and a derivative of Hyaluronic Acid is used/Sodium Hyaluronate) 3. The Ordinary Niacinamide 4. Moisturizer (my advice would be to use sunscreen, for example, Cetaphil Pro Oil Absorbing Moisturizer with SPF 30 or if you stay the entire day at home a mattifying moisturizer, for example, La Roche Posay Effaclar Matt) Night routine: 1. Facewash 2. Salicylic Acid 2%(Geek and Gorgeous 2% Salicylic Acid or Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant) 3. Vitamin C (Geek and Gorgeous C Glow or Paula's Choice 15% Vitamin C Booster) 3. Moisturizer if needed You can use Vitamin C(Ascorbic Acid) after BHA unless your skin is really sensitive. Geek and Gorgeous products are great and affordable, very reliable brand, I haven't covered it yet, but I will over the coming weeks! :) That should work well :)
Great video, thank you so much :) I have a few questions 1. If I only want to use Salicylic acid 3 times a week, is it OK to continue using Niacinamide every day in my routine after cleansing? 2. I am using the retinoid Differin cream 0.1 % after my moisturizer. Is this combination OK with Salicylic acid and Niacinamide before? 3. Do you not use a Toner after cleansing? Should the toner be used after Salicylic acid and Niacinamide? 4. I know Salicylic acid removes dead skin cells that are clogging pores and Benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria, So IYO which body wash would be more effective for acne folliculitis. I read the Cerave SA body wash is good and also the Mario Badescu A.H.A Botsnical Body Soap.
Hello Sean. For how long have you been using your differin cream? Generally, you should not use Salicylic Acid when using Differin (I think it even mentions it on the packaging). It can lead to dryness, redness, burning etc. But it may work when only using it every other day, but I highly recommend not doing it when new to the cream. You can use Niacinamide along with the cream; however, if you do, I recommend applying it before and waiting at least between 5-10 minutes so that the skin is dry again. Or use it at alternate times, maybe in the morning when you do not use the cream. Yes, you can use a soothing and hydrating toner after your cleanser but before Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide. Just make sure that it does not include other exfoliating acids. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EWU7vvGM9EM.html) I am not sure about the body wash, but you can try a cleanser with Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid. I have never really tried it on my body, but I guess it should help reduce it.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Hello Melissa, thank you for your reply. I have been using Differin cream for just over 8 month's now. @@alexandraash2999 Ok, so add your Salicylic Acid serum to your AM routine and Retinol in the PM. This way, you can use both products more often. Have you ever been to a dermatologist?

Hey, I recently had a breakout all over my face and specially forehead and i have super oily skin. Should I use paula's choice exfoliant, niacinamide and salycilic acid all together to improve my condition? And also my dermatologist suggested me teen derma gel before. Do you think this can be a good cleanser for my recent condition?
Salicylic Acid = BHA So if you use Paula's Choice BHA 2% and another 2% Salicylic Acid, you are doubling the Salicylic Acid amount, potentially leading to more oil production and breakouts over time. Generally, if the doctor is treating you, I advise you to follow his recommendation.
This video is very helpful! I was wondering if it would be fine to use, for example, salicylic acid serum in the morning and a lightly exfoliating cleanser which contains salicylic acid at night? Hey! :) What's your skin type? For how long have you been following this routine? Overall the routine looks great. Make sure to adjust the frequency of each exfoliant, otherwise, it may lead to irritation.
You do not have to use a moisturiser if you have oily skin. Especially The Ordinary moisturizer can make the skin appear sweaty so, it's best to skip it.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you Melissa. Also, I am wondering what should I apply first? The Niacinamide or the Salicylic Anhydrous Solution? Because I am planning to use both of them in am and pm
Technically, Salicylic Acid should be used first because it can loosen the dead skin cells, and therefore, Niacinamide can absorb better into the skin.
If you use the SA serum, then use a gentle gel-to-foam cleanser beforehand. [ru-vid.comqMd1tWxPWLM] However, using them daily depends on your personal skin tolerance.

Hello Mona 😀 Well, I am not a dermatologist. So I can only talk from my experience. When I have a lot of stress, I break out all over my face. Also, when I change the food, but this usually gets better after 2-3weeks. There are certainly some products that can help you, but the only ingredient that helps me pretty quick is benzoyl peroxide, which isn't available from the Ordinary yet. So it may be beneficial to go to the pharmacy or look for products online, or wait for a little longer and see if it may go away after a couple of weeks. Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide can help you, but it usually takes a few weeks to show it's the effect.
Hi I have a question if I use the Cerave SA cleanser I can just apply the ordinary niacinimide right after because it already contains salicylic acid correct? Because my skin care I just started was the Cerave Sa Cleanser then I apply the ordinary niacinimide and then moisturize. I also didn’t know if it would be better for me to use a cerave cleanser (with no salicylic acid) then apply the Paula choice then the ordinary niacinimide and then moisturize? I have very sensitive skin though and didn’t know if the Paula choice would be too strong. I struggle with white heads and black heads and have been trying so much stuff to get rid of them please help! I have watched multiple of your videos and they are AWESOME and filled with great info!
When using the Paula's Choice 2% BHA, you use a gentle Cleanser without SA. Like for example the Ordinary Squalane Cleanser or the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser etc... Using a cleanser that already contains 2% of Salicylic Acid + using the Paula's Choice 2% BHA exfoliant may be too strong for your skin, especially if you are new to it. - Gentle Cleanser - PC 2 % BHA - Niacinamide - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF (AM) Hope this helped! :)
I have the ordinary salicylic acid and the ordinary niacinamide, wich one should i apply first and how long should i wait before applying the other? Please help me im a guy and I am new to the whole skincare thing lol
You can use the BHA first and layer Niacinamide on top. You can layer one after another, maybe just wait a moment, like 30sec to 1min so that the product has time to soak into the skin. 🙂
Hey melissa how can we use different face syrums salycilic acid , hayaluronic acid , niacinamide, vitamin c, nd retinol how can we layer these syrums please let me know it will be so helpful if you can sort my problem out 🙏🏻

Hi Melissa, In PM routine should we apply sunscreen in the end or end up with moisturizer only? Can we apply any one of them instead of both? & which would be better? Also could you pleeeeeeease suggest good brand for sunscreen and moisturizer for combination skin !
Hey! :) Only use sunscreen or moisturiser with SPF during daytime when being exposed to direct sunlight. You do not need to use a moisturiser if you do not feel the need. It's fine just to cleanse, tone (optional), exfoliate and then use your serum(s). You can use any moisturiser you like that's suitable for your skin needs! I just used some examples to give you a visual demonstration. As for sunscreen, have a look at CeraVe's AM Ultra Light Moisturising Lotion with SPF, or Cetaphil Oil-Absorbing Moisturiser with SPF or La Roche Posay Aqua Gel SPF or one of Paula's Choice SPF! Those are just some examples! :)
Hi Melissa, I was literally just wondering if I could combine Paula's Choice 2% Liquid Exfoliant and Niacinamide together for my PM routine and here you are explaining just that! After exfoliating, can I use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + 5, Niacinamide, and Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% together?
Hey, 🙂 Yes, all the products you have should work very well in combination. I had a very similar routine a couple of years ago. I have used Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% instead (it's out of stock), and I have nearly used it for two months, which worked very well. 🙂
Yes you can. It will be similar to this: How To Use Paula's Choice 2% BHA Salicylic Acid Liquid Exfoliant And The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2%: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CHOP9Lsf0SE.html
Hi Miss Melissa my son has lot of pimples black heads and white heads as well. I give him the ordinary niacinamide and retinol .5%. It is improving but yet really. Because some acne are still coming up. Can I give him salicylic acid. If so how ahoul he use these?
Hey! :) The Ordinary does not have or 'sell' acne treatments. Using The Ordinary Retinol or Retinoid can increase acne for some time before it gets better. Niacinamide may help a bit, but depending on his acne, it may be best to look for acne treatment (like a Benzoyl Peroxide Cream/Gel or like the Differin Gel). He can use Salicylic Acid on days he does not use Retinol/Retinoid. So, alternate between them.
Hi, thank you alot for these videos I have a sensitive skin, do you think it's a good idea to use BHA? I'm using niacinamide but i have pores Also i wanna ask if i can use niacinamide in the morning and vitamin c in the evening
Hey 🙂 Do you mean enlarged pores? For this, Niacinamide and BHA is a great option. Also, Retinol may help. You have to test it. If you feel that it is too strong, you can use it as a mask and rinse it off after 5-15minutes. :) And yes you can use Niacinamide in the morning and Vitamin C in the evening. 🙂
Hey :) Yes, you can try it! I find that the light blue 2% BHA bottle from PC is less "strong/irritating" even though the black and blue bottle include both 2% BHA but the formulation is different. So, you may want to choose the blue one! Yes, that's fine too! However, depending on how sensitive your skin is, using Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) can tingle or even sting on your skin. If you should experience stinging, stop using it. I also recommend, using BHA and Vitamin C on alternate days in your PM routine for a while before using them in the same routine. Some people can tolerate that combination well, whereas others like to keep them separate.
Hi, nice video! I have a question, if my cleaner contain niacinamide in it, can I proceed to use the ordinary niacinamide solution? Will it over usage of niacinamide?
Hello Melissa! I really love your videos and I appreciate them so much, you are helping me a lot with my skincare routine but I don’t know if my steps are right😅 AM: 1. Cleanser 2. Toner 3. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (The Ordinary) 4. Moisturizer 5. Sunscreen PM: 1. Cleanser 2. Toner 3. BHA Exfoliating (Paula’s Choice, three times/week) 4. Niacinamide 10% 5. Moisturizer Is that okay? Also I’m thinking about include a lactic acid, should I do it in the morning or evening? Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️
Hey! Your routine looks great and the steps are correct as well!😊 You use a "normal" toner right?😊 Well, you can alternate between Salicylic Acid and Lactic Acid if you like to use it in the PM or use Lactic Acid after your toner in the AM every other day as well, similar to Salicylic Acid😊
Hey i wanna ask if i could use NIACINAMIDE 4 times a week only at night and use SALICYLIC ACID 3 times a week only at morning? Can i use these two in the same week but different timing? (I have an oily and acne skin)
Yes, that's fine. However, I would use SA in the PM and Niacinamide in the AM :) However, I also recommend investigating the root causes of your acne, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), or your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance).
Hi please can you tell me is this unisex I beasuse I'm looking to buy the Balance Set which has everything you cover in the video .I'm new to all of this and the cleanser says take off makeup.
Hi Melissa thank you for your video Can I use this routine 3x a week and the other 3 days vitamin c powder from the ordinary And in the evening 3x a week retinol and the other 3 days gycolic acid or is this to much
Hey! :) Well, this could work. However, exfoliating the skin too often + including Retinol can also easily lead to irritation. What Retinol do you use? Are you all new to those products?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I have combination skin with blackhead and whitehead , large pores, dullness, sun damage , rough skin like texture , dark circles around my eyes
@@hanayasin9516 Have a look at Factory Glycolic Acid Face and Body Scrub or Cetaphil's PHA Exfoliating Acid Cleanser and alternate between that one and a Gentle Cleanser (suitable for your skin type) AM: - Exfoliating Acid Cleanser - NIOD or The Ordinary Eye Serum - TO Vitamin C powder mixed with a serum (Hyaluronic Acid) or Moisturizer (or Facetheory Exaglow) - SPF PM 1: - Gentle Cleanser - NIOD or The Ordinary Eye Serum - TO Niacinamide - TO 2% Granactive Retinoid or 0,2% or 0,5% Retinol Serum - (Optional) Moisturizer PM 2: - Gentle Cleanser - TO 2% Salicylic Acid - NIOD or The Ordinary Eye Serum - TO Niacinamide - (Optional) Moisturizer Alternate between PM 1 and PM 2.
Love you videos!! Can I use Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution in the morning and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and Retinol 0.2% in Squalane in the evenings?
Yes, that's fine or you can use it like this: AM Routine: - Cleanse - Alpha Arbutin - Niacinamide - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse - Salicylic Acid - Niacinamide - (Optional) Moisturiser That's fine too! :)
i have a cleanser with 1% salisylic acid. then the ordinary niacinamide.. can i use them together everyday? and twice a day? what's the best routine. thanks
Yes, that's possible. However, you need to adjust it to your skin. If you feel that twice a day works well, just do it. But if you think that it is too much, reduce it. You need to find the right balance! :) It takes a bit of time to get a feeling for it...
Hello! I’d like to know if it would be okay to use Heimish all clean green foam, then Cosrx bha blackhead power liquid (containing 2% niacinamide) and then the ordinary niacinamide? I’m still not sure if it’s fine to use the cosrx since it contains niacina like the ordinary niacin.? Thank you!😊
Yeah, you use a high amount of Niacinamide. But that mainly depends on your personal skin tolerance. It may not be needed to use it. But there are 20% Niacinamide serums on the market. So it should be okay. The best you can do is test it and adjust based on that.
Hello :) No, I do not recommend using them in the same routine. You can use Niacinamide along with Differin; however, if you want to use Salicylic Acid, it may be best to use it at alternate times/days.
I use salicylic acid gentle cleanser from CosRx, an right afterthat I usually use 2% salicylic acid serum from Revolution. Should I stop doing that? I saw big change in my skin and I have now just some and there breakouts
Also is the Paula's choice better to use than the Revolution serum? Should I buy another cleanser without salicylic acid for the days that I want to use Paula's choice/Revolution, or can I continue doing what I do now, or should I just maybe stick with my salicylic acid wash and use salicylic acid serum not daily eith it? And I want to ask if the Cerave SA cleanser is better than the salicylic acid gentle cleansing gel from CosRx?
I mean, if you have found something that worked well for you, stick to it. I don't think that the BHA from Paula's Choice is better, it may blend a bit nicer into the skin, but the more expensive formulations always do, but the effect will likely be the same. So no need to change.
