Since about build 129 or so, you actually get more accurate distance measurements on the map even without the TDC mod. It's not accurate to the metre, but to the 0.1km which is usually good enough for government work...
This is the most complete explanation I've seen for the TDC mod. I just bought the game on Steam Summer Sale (2023). You covered a couple controls that no other YTer discusses. Without your explanation of those, I would have become frustrated. THANK YOU
Ha , i was waiting for this video ! In my opinion, this is the best TDC tutorial I've ever seen. Clear, complete, precise and easy to understand even with my bad english. Are you a teacher or something like that LySalted ? Anyway , thank you very much for sharing ! Very useful 👌
I started always playing with kilometers and kilometers per hour. The math is super easy. I run distance for six minutes and multiply distance by ten to get km/hr. It's also much more accurate that way.
@@Lite_lySalted longer time (larger sample) leads to a better average. How much that matters in game, I'm not sure. Running the clock twice as long means any inaccuracies will matter half as much. An inaccuracy being if you place a point a meter in front of the ship, or ran the clock a second longer. The longer you check speed for, the less it matters.
As per the tdc manual, that "thuck" nob is an own course correction scale. This helps correct target calculations and launch based on your heading or if you deviate. When you flip that bottom switch it starts tracking AOB. Thank you for the introduction to a better UBOAT experience 🙏🏼
@@Lite_lySalted I only installed the mod because I saw this video and your concise explanation of the system and ui. Sincerely, thank you ❤️ I only started reading the manual out of sheer interest in learning more about the TDC
Hate to say it, but I follow this to the letter and it misses 100% of the time. I don't think the tutorial is wrong, I think the mod is bugged. No matter what I do, those two arrows that are suppose to point straight up, never move.
A nice function of the TDC is that because you slave the periscope to it, you can directly aim for points on a ship, in case you want to target fore, aft, or amidships
The old Silent hunter 2 game actualy had a real manual . to operate the periscope degrees . how to calculate and plot course speed heading etc . to input in to the TDC .
Just a question : around 6:30 why would you have to unlock and relock the target ? Could you not just click the switch and make the game take the value of the TDC directly ? I dont get why that's a step. Good tutorial tho, thanks for the help.
I dont. Salvos aren't really possible as you have to close down the torpedo bay between targets or else all torpedoes will fire at the first selected target.
Great video! Just discovered your channel and I am loving your content and tutorials. I was wondering if you were planning on doing a TDC video on how use the TDC to engage multiple targets? Thanks and looking forward to more Uboat!
@@Lite_lySalted If you could go through an entire attack on a large convoy (using stern tubes) and multiple targets. My shots don't seem to be anywhere close at times when I'm switching from target to target. Do I have to un-click the switch at the bottom (off and then on) between each target? Or do I have to use the lever on the right? I'm finding that if I just lock and unlock new targets (through the periscope), my shots are all over the place. Thanks!
@@Lite_lySalted So after I fire and the tube shows "open empty", I have to click on it again to close them? Thanks for the reply. I'd still love to see you do the attack though. Love the channel.
Okay, after trying the mod myself I have two questions: 1. Is it possible to make the calculations for 2 or more ships at the same time? 2. Is there a way to reset the calculation? I made the calculations for a ship, but the torpedo exploded too early. Now had to escape and reangage, but had to pick a different ship. I made the calculatiosn for the new target, but the numbers for the TDC (like AoB) jump around like crazy, and I think it still is trying to follow the last ship.
the AoB should automatically update based on what your periscope is locked to once you've set it. Sounds like you're still locked to the previous target. Lock to the new one and it should be fine.
Is it possible to fire torps at a specific spot without a target lock? If I know there's a ship where I have a marker, will it let me blind-fire a torp once I input the calculations?
How on earth is this not part of the game itself? This is not an extra, an add on, this is an integral part of WWII Uboats. I mean, what were they thinking by leaving this out? Do they think we are getting too stupid to handle this?
@@Lite_lySalted Sorry Salted, I didn't mean to imply that you did. I did think you might know why. But. I have since found out why. The Beta to the finished release does have TDC. I have had too many bad experiences with Betas and Early releases though, so I will wait till they finalize the product. (Though it means waiting like a 6 year old in the week before Christmas.)
@@Lite_lySalted During the mission, the upper right corner is filled with tension and stress, and it keeps turning yellow like this way (Many flight attendants have reached their limits It comes out like this. Why is that?
Hi litely. Newcomer here. I've seen you shooting without tdc pretty much when periscope is not "available". (20m example) Do you "have" to use game own (non tdc mod)shooting solution method for some reason or is it just easier that way? I mean, is it much harder to hit with tdc, with only a guy in the hydrophone. When you cant lock and identify target (at this point i use visual map)? Asking because, i did not get hits with tdc mod when using only a map for visuals... Cant even id the target cause no book available... Do the game recognize that i have not REALLY seen the target via periscope, or did i do something wrong... ?
Hello, No you don't have to use the vanilla controls. The ID issue can be worked around by putting a leader on the attack periscope, then you can access the book even if you don't physically have the scope out of the water.
Great tutorial clearest and easiest to understand by far. I have some questions if you don't mind explaining First what are the steps to using the mod when attacking multiple targets? Do you have to keep switching doing all the steps above 1 ship at a time or can you setup all calculations at once then switch on TDC when using torpedo menu? The second question I can think of at the moment is if this mod is still usable in situations where I couldn't use the periscope to Id? Ex, 20m down with targets close enough to spot does TDC still keep tracking AOB if I use slave function at 2:36 ? Hope to hear from you and thanks in advance if you do
Thanks! 1: unfortunately, you can only program for one target at a time, however, once you've slaved in aob, it stays pretty close to true when switching targets, so you don't have to do aob per shot. 2. Yes, so long as you can plug all the values into the tdc, sighted or not, it will work.
@@Lite_lySalted Thanks so much also for #2 I would input everything manually on the TDC hud then fire torpedo pause input the next ships info rinse and repeat correct? Also when putting it in manually do you have to make sure you don't have the ship selected in base game all (map or officer target) for tdc to take over right or I just need to make sure the switch on the torpedo screen is green? Sry if questions where covered already I've watched few times but also read the manual so my brain is thumping been so long since i got you use it for video games lol
@@StonedWolf666 as of this build you'll need to plug in the values into the periscope AND the tdc. To switch targets close the torpedo bay completely via the X
@@Lite_lySalted oh wow I haven’t unlocked G3’s yet but that would be extremely helpful in convoys thank you! One more question while I got you. I noticed in your more recent videos it shows your sailor crew as having 8 sailors when not at alarm. Is that the more crew mod or something I can research! Thanks for the great content
@@Lite_lySalted the targeting computer... basically solves differential equations using the inputs you give it its super interesting from a math perspective
