How To Use The Thompson chain-reference Bible

As a note taker, I saw too many areas that were filled with references and no room for personal use. I love the concept of the chain reference Bible and used to use a KJV back in the late 80's. But that was shortly after I was saved so I was in the reading phase rather than the serious study and note taking phase. Now my primary consideration is margin width and enough space at the gutter to also make a few personal references. Thank you for sharing though. It's obvious you have an excitement for God's Word which is encouraging to an old woman like me!

I bought my first Kirkbride Thompson chain reference Bible, in 1987. I'm still using it, and the second one I bought a year or two later.

I splurged for the new large print, red letter edition of the NIV that just came out. It is a bit different from the one you show but is used in the same manner. Total cost for my TCR was around $80. This is without doubt the most expensive Bible I own and whereas I don't regret buying it I'm not sure its worth the money. First of all your not going to just open it and understand how to use it. There is some learning involved and unless your willing to spend the time learning how to use it it may well end up on the shelf. For the average person probably a regular reference Bible and a Strongs Concordance will suffice. The big advantage to the TCR is it's all in one book. Another thing I really like about the TCR is the quality of build and the fact it lies flat. I love mine but just not sure I would do it again.

Thanks for this great video Cat, it has been a great help to me! The Std size edition I got from CBP is not bad, it's better than the terrible Kirkbride version I got last year. I think these Large Print editions are the way to go on TCR's, so I'll be switching to them and bringing them across I think. Thanks again for all your work on this! God bless

Got the large print KJV Thompson chain reference bible yesterday from Amazon 👍

I just bought an ESV student study Bible from Amazon and it only costs like $21.00. It has did you know facts, a concordance, glossary, character profiles, timelines, maps, cross-references, introductions to each book, and study notes. I'm not sure what size it is but for all the info it has in it it's not big, thick, or heavy. I also bought some colored micron pens. I'm soooo excited to start using and studying this Bible.

Greetings from Rochester NY. Great video. I’ve been using a Thompson chain since 1983. I just purchased my 3rd one yesterday. I have to say I really don’t like the new Zondervin layout. I ended up purchasing a nice used Thompson Bible off of eBay. God bless you as you dig into His word.

I bought a new TC NIV in 2022. I found a few errors in the book intros. For example, in Acts, 4309 is supposed to be the “Overview of Paul’s Life,” but in my Bible it’s “Places of Religious Worship” This is just one I’ve found. Do you have a contact where I can turn these in as I find them?

I have a third edition 1957 . I do not see do not see the chain reference number on the side . This is a new bible to me maybe i am using it wrong. I would love it if you help me i am thinking i got some odd print. or if the older books don't look the same .Thank you.

For some reason I can’t get myself to highlight over the red letters. I usually just circle and then highlight the chains.

Use a .5 or Japanese .2mm mechanical pencil with a HB-2B pencil in your bible. Not a pen. In this way you can modify or change what you wrote when you learn more. It is reversible if you decide to remove it too.

My 1990s early 1990s large print Thompson chain did not have much.however a 2014 printing of the Thompson chain reference King James large print is awful online I would post some photographs for you to see of it but I can't see how I can do that on RU-vid. but suffice it to say if you know how to read text backwards you can read the other page through the page you've got up

Looks like the one that reached Philippines is in hardbound with very thin pages and heavy shadowing.

I took your advice and got a 20 pen color set of the ‘G•Tech C4 Pilot’ from Amazon and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE them. So thank you very much for recommending. I do have a question that I was hoping you would cover as I watched to the end. What are the numbers in () in the ‘chains’? Sometimes you can’t see for looking but I am about to snatch hair trying to figure that ‘minute detail’... out. For instance in Genesis 1: •Creator (1) •Creator (3) •Heavens (1) •Darkness (1) Please help. I’m fixated on this because I like to know why’s and what’s of my Bibles. This my 1st TCR.

A big turn off for me on study bibles is that all the superscripts can be distracting. Thompson chain looks so tidy while still being informative.
