As a Christian of over 40 years I can say that the Thompson Chain Reference Bible is my all-time favorite; you can literally get lost in some real deep study, progressing from one chain to another, and another and traverse the length and breadth of the Holy Word; but if you don't have time for that, you can easily do a more superficial, but productive study investigating a single chain. Marvelous!

My very first Bible in 1984 was a Thompson chain reference you are correct there is a lifetime of study in that Bible and it is proven to be one of the better study Bibles ever made I just wish they could get that red letter right hahaha Lord bless you great review

I love love love mine! Especially the fact that scripture explains scripture without having to look at a commentary or study Bible most of the times. And has a huge and I mean huge amount of information too. At first I thought I made a mistake getting it because I didn’t fully understand the system and I was overwhelmed, but now I think I made a good investment. Did I mention I loooove it? Lucia Terrones hello sister! I am glad that you love yours. It takes a little bit to figure out the system but once you do it is amazing how much studying you can do with this Bible. I think a lot of people open it and are overwhelmed but once they spend some time with it then it’s easy to use. You could use one for your whole life and not run out of information. In high school, there was this bible and I wanted to get it. What beautiful afternoons spent with her, reading in the school library ! Now I want and I can to invest in a study bible and I hesitated between it and the MACARTHUR (after pastors'advice) but I prefer to just let the Bible speak. Thank for the video

It's been a while since I watched this, but I just want you to know how valuable these are, even years later. Today I ran into someone looking for a study Bible where they can somehow not be having to deal with an individual's opinions or even a certain slant. It's one of the best basic things you can get from a Thompson Chain Reference Bible. It's a study Bible that just helps the Bible interpret the Bible. The TCR is an amazing resource! You could study this everyday for the rest of your life and still learn something new on your last day, it is incredible how much information it contains. We are blessed to have such a resource that someone dedicated their life to create for us. AAAAHh! At 4:40 I cringed as you touched the nib to the page. As a fountain pen user I knew that would soak the page on a borrowed book. I quickly realized it was not filled. Excellent, stylish pointing tool though! Thanks for the thorough review. I purchased this edition, but returned once I discovered it was bonded leather. The Amazon description said genuine leather. While the Thompson Chain is a forever jewel. I am seeking a lasting cover. My hubby has had his TC since 1986. I recently purchased a large print 5th edition , iron calf skin from CBP. I did share it on my channel..Blessings!

I have three KJV study Bibles that are great on their own. I know I don't need this one right now as I am far from covering those three but this is so cool, I am so interested with this one and I love how this is not super expensive. EDIT: I can already see them releasing a full colored one once I bought one of these ._.

Bible Believing Christian I thought about cop but ace bookbinding in okc can do mine for 120 dollars which includes a new leather cover up to 5 ribbons add note pages spine hubs and stamping and putting my name and fav verse on the front cover as well as fixing any stitching that has come undone and that is all for 120 dollars plus I love the review copy kirkbride sent me just want it in better leather! I will do that thanks for asking about her!
I just got one of these today! It's not the large print, though, but is KJV. Have barely opened it. Used to have one just like it, but it disappeared out of my house! I missed it very much, and because I have the Strong's Concordance (the huge one) to go with it. I'm good to go again. This is a very good review.

I agree. I tried last year to order the NKJV but waited over a year for the back order. Finally, cancelled, and decided to see if the KJV would come, and it did!
Charlene Lee boy a year is a long time to wait! I’d like to see them do large print editions in the other translations. That would be a smart move on their part. The NKJV is probably my favorite translation.
I just spoke with someone from Kirkbride - very nice lady! She told me the Leather standard KJV should be out before the end of this year. The new ESVs should be out the first of next year. The new 2020 NASBs will be at least a year (which I assume is because they are waiting on the updated translation). :)

I have not heard anything about Kirkbride and if they were still going to be producing Bibles or not so I am very happy to hear they still plan on making Bibles. That’s great! @@BibleBelievingChristian Also, she told me that they still make them right here in the USA but if you buy it from CBD it is going to be made in China, which does mean that they will not be as well made. I just ordered one directly from Kirkbride and we'll compare it to the one I got from CBD! Then since I already have one I'll probably end up giving those away.

Thanks for sharing sister, but I think I'm done with Thompson's and Kirkbride. The Bible is great but just isn't being produced with good enough consistency and quality for my liking. I notice this one doesn't look too bad, but then again I notice it is a 'not for resale' copy... and possibly not the representative of an average retail copy. Even CBP, who definitely have the better bindings, use the same text block as printed by Kirkbride (or whoever they use in the States) and it can be terrible. It is absolute pot luck whether you get a good one or not, and it's going to get worse from what Kirkbride have told me. They're making the paper the same as the standard size, which in my opinion is by far the worst out of the lot. There are so many good quality Bibles out there I think I'll be concentrating on them and recommending others. Until they start outsourcing production to Jongbloed or even LEGO or Printcorp, which most publishers are doing (even on lower cost Bibles such as the TBS Westminster), I'll pass. Such a shame, but I don't see any good reason to continue to patronise them.
Burton Bibles I have had pretty good luck with the ones I’ve purchased but I would like to see them change their red letter at minimum, I have an older NIV that is almost painful on the eyes. Or if they’d let other publishers do their own text blocks, like Nelson and CBP, that would be great! I doubt it would happen but it would be nice. Tingo Wealeans with publishers it’s all about making money so whoever has the rights to the text/notes/study material will be the one making the money on the Bibles and Kirkbride has the rights for the Thompson Chain and I doubt they would want to sell those rights. I would love to see them sell the rights to each of the other publishers for their particular translation so they could produce their own Thompson Chain, like have Crossway produce the ESV, have Nelson do the KJV & NKJV and Zondervan the NIV & NASB. But I don’t know if that would ever happen or not. Right now the only Thompson Chain that’s readily available still is the KJV. The CEO of Kirkbride passed away in late 2019 and nobody knows yet if they will still be producing the Bibles or not. Even Church Bible Publishers has to buy their TCR text blocks from Kirkbride and they install their nicer covers on them, they can’t print the text blocks themselves cause Kirkbride owns the rights. Right now nobody knows the fate of the TCR but I sure hope it doesn’t just go away, if Kirkbride isn’t going to stick around I hope they sell the rights to the other publishers. Hopefully that makes sense but basically it is all about money and who has the rights to print them and only Kirkbride has it right now but they’re not printing anything at the moment from what I have heard.

Interesting re: they're not printing at all right now. I suppose there would be the possibility of the rights being sold/leased (if thats the correct term proably not) to other publishers like you mention but get that there's nothing to indicate that is definitely going to happen. I have a Thompson chain reference Bible King James Version the first church I went to gave to me for Christmas it is a fifth improved Edition 28th printing printed in September 2010. It is a really wonderful Bible I love it a lot I really only use it for the references because I'm not that good at reading so why use audio Bibles so I used what I'm able to of the references.
I got a “large print” TCR Bible, also the 21stprinting from January 2018 of the “Fifth Improved Edition”. I got mine from Church Bible Publishers so the ironed calfskin cover and binding are excellent. The Kirkbride text block (it says printed in the USA) is good too except for a very minor flaw on one page that must have occurred during printing. The red letter seems more washed out than irritating to the eyes (my opinion) but the obvious solution is just do black letter text. Like others, I wish Kirkbridge would get Jongbloed do print and bind a TCR. Maybe they could update the photos and illustrations too.
Don Tracey the CBP one has the best cover! And I agree that it would be awesome to see one printed by Jongbloed and just sticking to black letter wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Church Bible Publishers has the nicest TCRs. They have the regular size as well as the large print and their bindings are much nicer too. The TCR is a great Bible. Definitely worth adding to your library. And since the CEO passed away last year nobody knows yet what is going to happen to Kirkbride so I would definitely get one while you can cause nobody had heard yet what they will do with the company. You mentioned "breaking in" a new bible. I've got a new Thompson Chain Reference bible in genuine leather and it's kind of stiff all over. How would you suggest breaking it in?

gilding or gilt can only ever be gold by definition. applying silver or some other colour isn't gilding, its just edging. similarly i cant stand it when someone describes a bible as having "art gilding", the marketing team really got people good with that one. a simple block of one single uniform colour underneath the (possibly actual) gilding isnt "art" by any stretch of the imagination, i wish these companies would stop lying. the honest term for it should be "under-gilt block tinting" or something but obviously that makes them less $$$.
entiretinofsweetcorn yeah Publishers marketing terms on things can be interesting. I like to at least have the gold or silver vs white page edges. Is this similar to Strong's concordance? I like this Bible but I noticed in one review that it has image of "Jesus" (fake Jesus). I want to avoid that as much as possible, do you think concordance would be better for me?
This one does have images in the back and some artwork but there are not any images in the main Biblical text at all. The Thompson Chain is a great Bible because of the chain reference system and it is probably more user friendly than a concordance which can be very bulky and then you'd still need to use it with a Bible so it might not be as convenient going back and forth. You could always just get a good cross reference Bible that has a concordance if you wanted to avoid any images in a Study Bible that you might not like. I bought a Strong's Concordance but I rarely use it because it is huge!
Do you know the gsm of the paper? One RU-vidr said Thompson Chain Reference bibles have a gsm of 20 to be able to fit all their content in their bibles. Is that true?
What I'm concerned about is I heard another review here on RU-vid about the TCL and the girl said that the word Lucifer was in the section of archaic names. And that it said Lucifer was not Satan. So I'm wondering if that is in the older versions because I really wanted a large print but I have a feeling that the notes have been tampered with in the newer Editions which would have the large print. With something that serious I wouldn't be able to trust it. There is a guy or there was a guy named John Todd AKA Lance Collins that grew up in the Illuminati and was a witch till he got saved. There was something he said about witches and the names Lucifer, Satan and the devil. It was a big deal to them. Someone said they had a 4th edition and it wasn't in there But I'm 70. A little leaven spoils the whole lump.

@@BibleBelievingChristian Oh thank you for responding. The girl who led me to our Savior bought me a Dakes back in 1972. I no longer read it because of what he said on two issues. Now the Thompson I had till I couldn't read anymore with ease and it was falling apart because of the age of it. I'm still trying to talk myself into getting one with large print but besides that Isaiah 14:12 issue he missed a big thing in Psalm 91 my favorite Psalm. I'm starting to think that he has an issue with the Devil or maybe the publisher is doing things, I don't know. Why wouldn't there be a reference about the devil misquoting a verse in Psalm 91? That to me is a very big deal. I memorized that whole Psalm but I can't memorize the whole Bible to know if Satan is twisting the scriptures. I can ignore Thompsons views up to a point but I can't ignore if he leaves important things out like important references because that's what I'm depending on him for. I'm starting to think I'll just stick with my large print giant print 12-point font King James Version and get David Daniels approximately $12 companion to the King James which explains archaic words. I think it's a packet of 20. But I really thought the Thompson Chain reference was the top of the line as far as Study Bibles go. Christianbook is having a huge sale till Monday June 22nd. Kirkbride is no longer in business but when they did have them they had the NKJV in thumb indexed but now they're out of print and the NKJV had been sold out for quite a while before they went out of business. Zondervan now owns the rights to the Thompson Chain and they do have a thumb indexed NKJV which is $47.49 on Chrisitanbook the ISBN is 9780310636755.

bro. jun rubin the Thompson Chain Bibles are all extremely similar on the inside, the translations will be different but the content should be the same. The older editions might not have everything that this one has. But the layout should look the same. Only Kirkbride prints the text blocks even if it’s one sold by Church Bible Publishers. I also have a video on the ESV and the NASB Thompson Chain and you may want to watch those videos and see if they look more like the one that you have.
Zondervan will be producing the TCR soon so I am hoping that the quality will be improved because the Kirkbride editions did have some quality issues so I look forward to seeing what Zondervan does with them. Thank you for watching and commenting.
