How to use trick room and SWEEP with your SLOWER POKEMON | Competitive Pokemon EXPLAINED

With the Crown Tundra DLC released and so many fast sweepers dominating competitive play - it seemed a good time to explain how trick room works, which pokemon can best take advantage of its effects, and why it's so good in the current meta. Trick room flips the field so that your SLOWER pokemon attack BEFORE your opponent's! Make sure to take advantage of this style of team if you're tired of getting swept by faster pokemon.

One thing I find cool about Trick Room is that it really allows your pokemon to put more EV’s in bulk to out pace other fast frail revenge killer sweeper types that have now “wasted” ev’s in speed.

Yeah, and as someone who plays primarily stall teams, its helping me get into the offensive teams due to how often I make mistakes with my attacks, stall just doesn't have that, so this is easier for me since I can afford to make a mistake

I love the meme used in the intro. My favorite Trick Room pokemon are PKMN like Guts Ursaring/Hariyama, Sheer Force Nidoqueen/Kingler, or Belly Drum Azumarril. Malamar, Heracross, and Rampardos hit like trucks too. Priority users like Sucker Punch Bisharp, Aqua Jet Crawdaunt, Extreme Speed Arcanine/Lucario, and Bullet Punch Scizor/Machamp are also awesome in trick room because it provides an emergency option. Back in Gen 6 Anything Goes, I used to use Trick Room Thick Club Marowak to take down Primal Groudon with Bonemerang. Pre-Confusion Nerf Dynamic Punch No Guard Machamp and Golurk with max DEF and ATK were also solid answers to Swords Dance Arceus and Groudon. The outro song is so good it always has me staying till the end

In doubles Trick Room is actually very common as a play style, I’ll give a some Mons that work in TR tho idk how good they are in singles: Rhyperior, Marowak-A, Glastrier, Stakatka, Hatterene, Conkeldurr, Amoonguss, Porygon2, and Cresselia. Yea I need to play less Trick room lol

I watched a stakataka vid not too long ago and I was really impressed, and I loved how mimikyu's disguise let's it safely use trick room! Yeah stay tuned, hoping to have one up tomorrow! I love conkeldurr too, especially with ice punch in the current metagame. Honestly, with the exception of magearna, stakattaka, and reuiniclus, most trick room attackers don't set it up themselves. Makes defensive users like porygon2 and xatu that can & teleport out afterwards very handy

Great vid as always! I've discovered your channel some months ago, and I took a break from Pokémon and came back a week ago. One question I would like to ask you: do you know about the draft league format? I usually used a trick room team with Melmetal in this format, so that's the correlation. And if you know about it are you some day thinking on participating or in some extendend talking about it? Repeating my self once again but continue the good work! And sorry if I mispronounce some of these words, I'm brazilian so my english isn't the greatest Um fato engraçado: o nosso(meu nesse caso) país é pronunciado com um z em vez de um s no inglês! 🇧🇷

Thanks for the support, dude! I love draft league and think it's easily one of the coolest parts of the competitive pokemon community, but I have no plans for a video on the topic because I just don't have the time to commit to a full season! However there's lot of great RU-vidrs who make content on the subject so be sure to let me know if you need recommendations! And dude - your English is amazing don't apologize for anything 😁

Having played a lot of trick room, the only buff I wish they would give it is not counting the move you use trick room as one of your five turns. I understand this falls in line with moves like tailwind, sandstorm, rain dance, etc., but since trick room is the lowest priority move in the game, I feel this would be a fine buff since even in doubles you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the effects the turn it’s setup.

tbh its the opposite for me and i'd like maybe a 2nd part video to this on how to counter most trick room setters, in the past i could deal with indeedee follow me + hatterene with double rockslide users or 1 shot with dura but now that everyones running stakataka i can't even think of something that can 1 shot it since stalwart is only really on duraludon which i dont think has a 1 shot for him same with propellor tail barra and double rockslide is weak to steel in case i dont get flinch off but very well put together video and i always jam out to the outro song xd

good ol taunt works, be sure to not use a prankster pokemon like torn or whimsicott to Taunt as your only answer to trick room because it is stopped by Psychic terrain and Taunt is bounced back by hatterene in general, 2 common things found on trick room teams. Since trick room always goes last, dragon tail, roar, and whirlwind will all send the trick room setter back to their party before the move is used, and theyre free to attack with your teammate that turn before you force them out to make it easier to ko next time they come out. Duraludon is a good dragon Tail user for this strategy, but be wary of fairy type setters. Fake out can be used to flinch the opponent, buying time for your teammate to get off an extra attack on their setter while they automatically flinch that turn. Using encore on the turn after they set up trick room will cause them to immediately use the move a second time, cancelling out trick room. On a similar note, if your pokemon also has trick room, using it will cancel out any current trick room set up. an option if your team really really cant stand trick room is using indeedee male or chandelure with 2 of their moveslots dedicated to trick room and imprison. Imprison stops any opposing pokemon from using a move that the imprison user has, so if you have trick room they wont be able to use it. this method is probably the most effective but it requires some serious team dedication. Having a few of these is essential for any doubles team to function well, but honestly in doubles your best bet is to utilize a healthy mixture of speedy and slow pokemon so you can adapt to whatever your opponents team looks like. Benefitting from your opponents trick room never hurts. In singles, the most reliable way to beat trick room teams is to hit really hard. The opponent is vulnerable for 2 turns every time they want to activate it, one to set it and one to bring in a sweeper. If you're constantly applying offensive pressure, they quickly collapse. and honestly, against any half decent trick room team, they're likely going to be able to activate it at least once. The key is to remember that it's only active for a very short duration. take advantage of this by switching around your pokemon trying to resist whatever they throw at you. This should be able to mitigate the harm to a certain extent, and as soon as it ends you have to be ready to go on the offensive to not give them another chance to sweep.

My favorite Trick Room Sweeper is Stakataka because it can easily sync up damage output and easily put up trick room. Heres a funny story, one time I was destroying them with my stakataka and they sent out their scarf ditto while trick room was still active, but due to them having scarf i was faster. Also stakataka is my favorite pokemon entirely. Also unpopular opinion, I think stakataka is purely way better than melmetal in trick room.
