In this video, I am going to show you how to use your USB Flash Drive as RAM, this will not affect the USB Flash Drive, just make sure you turn off ReadyBoost before you use the USB Flash Drive as a storage device again. This will work with Windows XP on up!

I ended using a old 32gb SD card. Now I can run multiple tabs. I did notice a bit of lag when switching between different applications but its still an improvement.

Hi, can I ask what processor you're running? I am thinking of doing this but idk if it will be helpful. I have an Intel celeron that came with only 2gb of RAM....

Great vid thx :) Cool little operation. I have a question. I know that computers have a max amt of RAM they can use. Upgrading it or putting RAM in past that point, wont hurt the computer, but it just wont be used. Does that still apply to this operation your show? Does this still have to be within that max amt or is this a little cheat to get a bit above that amt?

I have a program that merges audiobook files into 1 file. The program eats my ram, and holds on to it, till the merge is complete. I have 6gigs of ram. But cant merge a book into just 1 file, if the book is longer than 12hrs. In order to do so, I need more ram.. would this USB trick work?

This is not how it works , you can’t add physical memory via a usb. All this method does is make ram storage move to your ssd/hdd therefore increasing overall space and memory which yes does increase performance but it won’t physically make a big diffdifference

I had the same thing happen to me using a 4gb usb stick, and I formatted the usb tried ready boost again and it worked! Sadly ready boost took away a lot of the storage so it’s pretty useless but still really cool non the less! I know this is a year late but yk figured I’d see if that worked if you even need it lol

it kinda helped in gaming , the fps didint change but now its not stuttering that much anymore . It removed like 90% of the stutter , and thx again.

SargeantsTechTips it helped alot with gaming on my 4gb of ram pc but on 16gb of ram it helped only a tiny bit but on my 4gb of ram old pc it made it lag alot less like 25-30 fps and it was old it really matters about the ram you originally had

"More faster." Okay. And 2nd, not it probably won't make a noticeable difference in performance, all Ready Boost does is create a page file which Windows reads and writes too.

Make a new video, use a tool which consumes 4 GB of RAM for testing purposes and show that your system is still running smooth with Readyboost. Repeat without Readyboost and compare. And put your camera on a tripod.

try formatting to exfat, if it's not USB 2 or 3 speeds it won't work. I just tried an old cheap 1tb thumb drive from China and got the same error for my daughters pc.

if you want to use more than 4GB usb for ram you have to format it as NTFS for example i use a 32GB usb and i use all the 32GB on it so if someone need more than 4GB just format it as NTFS

SargeantsTechTips it works to me for any apps that are downloaded from Microsoft store and a few from chrome but mainly from Microsoft store

I would not recommend using all of the usb space for ram because you might need to save a file to it to transfer but it has no space I would probably leave 1-4 gb of space left on the flash drive
