Very helpful tips... wish I had these before I started using a harness

I’m glad this resonates with you. You clearly went through the pain I did. I’m guessing you’re a harness convert too. Do you ever ride without one?

Very good video, came through the same steps as you from windsurfing and went with what i knew worked, but hose big thick harness lines swinging in your face, I knew things had to change. For me the GONG harness lines, once you know your size are the best out there. I use the Dakine Wingfoil harness as it has the flat hook that you can slide to one side when paddling and has the mounts on the side and back for board leash. 🙃

I've not seen the gong lines. I'll check them out!

Quick warning; be careful trying tacks when bringing the wing overhead! I caught the harness line on the back of my helmet, wiped out and ripped the helmet off. Lucky it was loose otherwise could have done neck damage! Still love the harness line for prolonging my sessions as am not as strong as when I started windsurfing 43 years ago!😅

I only use flexible Ozone lines now. A bit surprised you never tryed or talked about it. They are IMO the best and are adjustable

Interesting, not tried them. I'll have to give them a go.

The 17 minute 5 minute video. Haha. Great tips, i have a bad shoulder so hope using a harness can extend my sessions. Larry

Hi, thank you so much for such a good video. I've got a question. I have a three handle wing and usually my back hand grabs the second handle when overpowered, avoiding the third one. I don't know if fixed harness lines points in first and third handles allow to open the wing in that situation or would it be better to be able to move the lines points forward? I could move them over my handles

This is due to the the centre of lift of the wing shifting aft as the pressure increases. With rope harness lines you can slide the wing forward which counters this. Hope that helps

Hi, what is the thickness and length of your homemade rope? Thx for the video.

Hi mate. I use 6mm rope and that is the best balance of being lightweight but still has the weight to swing into the harness. Hope that helps.

Thanx for sharing!! Coming from windsurfing and kitesurfing a harness is a must, real game changer for me. Now I'm using the DAKINE belt with a DAKINE harness line. BUT: somehow when hooking on it, I find to have much less power in the wing!! In light winds I even have to unhook to not come down from the foil. Strange. I think it might be because the line is too short even ridden at max. lenght. Any ideas? Thanx! jordan

Hi Mate, Yes I think its either the harness line is too short and you are not able to sheet out enough or your are oversheeting and stalling the wing. Very easy to do with a harness. Perhaps also you have the lines in the wrong place? Try my tip about flying on the beach to make sure its balanced. Hope that helps.
@kountchev1

@@hydrofoilacademy never thought of it that way; it MUST be the oversheeting. THANX!!

Tried harness lines and got rid of them immediately. My personal problem wasn't riding with them or hooking in but tangeled them round my neck while jibing. Any tips?

Thats a new one for me. Perhaps you lines were too long? I've never found they get in the way for tacks or gybes. Perhaps keep persevering and slightly change the way you handle the wing during the gybes? Hope that helps?

Can they be used without footstraps? Or you'd be prone to be blown off the board? Thanks

Would you be able to provide a link to the rope you use for your lines?

I genuinely can't remember what brand of rope I used. I got it from our local boat shop. It's a 6mm Dyneema core with an outer cover.
