Thanks so much for this video! The gums around one of my back teeth were very sore and starting to bleed a little. I use a water pic daily and it just felt like there may have been something around that tooth, so I may have irritated it more by turning it up to “11” and trying to flush out whatever may have been jammed in there. Into day 2 and getting desperate, I got that pocket tool out but wasn’t sure how to use it. Did a search and having learned how to use the pic from you more than a year ago, I chose your video. Using it just the way you show here, after going around the gum line on the lowest speed I felt something get dislodged. It was I think a thin strip of tendon from chicken tenders I’d eaten a few nights earlier. That was about 2 hours ago and the pain is gone. No more bleeding and my gums around there are getting back to pink. I was starting to have thoughts of getting a dental tool for cleaning and scraping it around the tooth because it was so sore and I was convinced something was stuck in there. So glad I watched this - you are a fantastic “teecher”!

Thank you so much for this video! I was recently diagnosed with periodontal issues and 8 to 9 mm pockets. Hygienist said I need to learn how to use the water pick. I don't know why, I've never had issues with dental stuff before but somehow the idea of flushing a deep pocket in my gums causes me panic. I have literally been in tears every time I've thought about doing this to myself. I really really appreciate your video, it's straightforward directness, and that I can just rewatch it and take it back up from the point where I broke down into hysterical tears. Side note, a video for how to help deal with panic about dental stuff would be great. I've never had any problem with dental procedures, I love a clean mouth, but something about the periodontal pockets has absolutely freaked me out

Thanks this is helpful. I hadn't been to a dentist in 10 years. I have mostly 4, 5, and 6mm pockets. But a couple of 7mm pockets around my 2nd and 3rd molars on both sides. I was brushing to prevent cavities and while I successfully prevented cavities. I neglected my gum health because I didn't floss. Also have hypodontia. My baby tooth never fell out and I don't have an adult left lateral incisor. I will need an implant and will need to use this tip to clean around it.

@devilangel777, I could always go a long time between cleanings and be great, but I went “too” long without a teeth cleaning, and while I was flossing and brushing with a Sonicare daily, and had no cavities, I did have many 5mm (non-reversible) gum pockets back in March. I started using this tip, with 10 drops grapefruit seed extract in the tank, for 5 minutes daily, and I am now down to only one 5, and most of the rest are 2s and 3s now. My hygienist is super impressed and says my gums are healthy-no bleeding! How are yours doing?

Thank you for the video! If you have periodontal disease would it be ok to use on ones that weren’t 7mm? I’ve been to the dentist(last week even)but I haven’t had my pockets checked since maybe 2014,2016 by another. Problem is I kinda became bedridden after&was too sick to brush my teeth so they def got worse because I was brushing once a month at 1 point. I’m actually going to look into another dentist for a 2nd opinion because I don’t know how it’s possible I don’t even have a cavity when I didn’t brush a lot more than I did for years,I actually thought I had an infection. Too bad your not in NY,I’ve had bad luck with my current&last,would’ve liked someone I could trust.

The standard tip works for any pocket 7mm and under. If there are 7 and above, then yes use it in those, but otherwise stick with the standard tip. I’m sorry you’ve had some serious health issues and such bad luck with finding a trustworthy dentist. Do everything you can at home on a consistent basis until you find who your looking for. Don’t get discouraged. Put in the daily work on your teeth, even if that’s using a dry toothbrush while watching tv. Any time you disrupt bacteria it helps! 😷

01:31 THANK YOU. I've been using the standard tip and I use it on level 10. I've been concentrating it between the margin where the gum adheres to the tooth. Since doing that I've noticed that the gum line under my two front lower teeth is opening and can feel slightly painful when forcing water into that area at high pressure. It wasn't like that before. I'm assuming that the high pressure actually flooded into the area, pushing the gum away. Does that sound plausible?
@holistichygiene
@holistichygiene Год назад
I would turn the level down to an 8. It sounds as though you have the correct technique. The waterpik does not cause the gum to pull away. Without seeing, I cannot give a straight answer. There could be loose bacteria you flushed out and are keeping out, with hardened bacteria left behind still adhered to the tooth. I would see your dentist for an examination to confirm what is going on 😷

What is the deepest pocket you've seen return to normal using this water pik method? I was told only a pocket applicator would get to the deep pockets over 7mm. Do I have to use a pocket applicator? I really don't want to and I love the irrigator using the pik pocket at #1-2 setting. A water pik is relaxing and the pocket applicator gives me anxiety. Also, some professionals say to use the pik pocket (level 1-2) at a 45 degree angle towards the gums and others say only to aim horizontal along the gum line. and that the 45 degree method of "flooding" is unsafe for deep pockets and possibly the body. Can you please clarify for me?:) Thank you SO much!
@holistichygiene
@holistichygiene 4 месяца назад
I have seen 9mm pockets retun to 4mm pockets with proper dental treatment, removing all calcified bacteria from the tooth, consistent homecare combined with regular dental visits. Without proper dental care, a 7mm pocket could be waterpik’d multiple times a day and still remain. Yes, the pik pocket is soothing. But, for adequate bacteria removal, the pressure must be at a 6-8. The pressure creates a siphon, in the periodontal pocket. Sucking out bacteria and food debris. This will not cause any damage to the teeth or gums. It is very beneficial and safe. The pik pocket must be pointed into the gum at the 45° angle. The standard tip is to be pointed or placed horizontal and traced along the gumline, where the teeth and gums meet.

Right now I’m about 2 months after my last therapy. @holistichygiene
@holistichygiene 2 года назад
So happy this helped you! Yes, even with excellent dental hygiene habits at home, periodontal disease takes 90 days to start destroying bone again. So needing to maintain your health, it is best to get seen every 3-4 months. As for the use of the pik pocket, it is only indicated for any periodontal pocket 7mm and above. If your periodontal pockets are all less than that, the standard tip is what is recommended and what will be fully effective. Even if you have one or two pockets 7mm and above, you would use the pik pocket in those areas only and the standard tip every where else. 😷

Use the pik pocket to the best of your ability aimed in between the teeth in that area. That is a tough area to access, but pointing that tip in there and allowing the water to flow for 3-6 seconds is best daily.

I do not recommend the perio pik for 4mm. It is designed and meant for 7mm + The standard tip will give you the results your looking for. 4mm is still shallow. If you have 5mm, that’s when I would get super concerned. The 4’s you should be able to kick those around quick 😷

@@f2pscaper4lyfe93 it is a good thing. And like I said, if your deepest pockets are only 4mm, that’s borderline periodontal disease. Some could call it gingivitis. Is it safe to irrigate into the pocket? Wont this push bacteria deeper into the pocket? I have one 6mm pocket all of my other teeth are 1-3. I have been trying to irrigate the pocket by pushing the tip into the gum/pocket area and irrigate with hydrogen peroxide. It bleeds and mildly hurts, I'm not sure if I am doing it correctly. Also, should this be done daily or only a couple times a week if the gum bleeds after irrigation? Thanks
@holistichygiene
@holistichygiene 9 месяцев назад
This will not push bacteria into the pocket. I would use the standard tip, as shown, use the technique I describe and show. The standard tip will reach done to that 6mm pocket using the correct technique, which is, pointing the tip stratigraphy at the tooth/gumline, having the tip touch the tooth/gum, gliding the tip along the gumline, when you fall in between the teeth, pause for a 3 second count, then move on. Do this from both your cheek side and tongue side. The pressure dial should be set at a 7/8. No need for peroxide or mouthrinse. The waterpik is completely safe to use once a day. I would ease up on forcing the waterpik into your 6mm pocket. Most times being too aggressive can only keep the irritation present. I’ve seen this many times.

@@holistichygiene Thanks for your response. The swelling in that area has completely gone away since I wrote this originally. I had scaling and root planing done on my back molar and it was treated with arestin about three weeks ago as well. I have only used a 2 or 3 on the dial. I’m afraid I’ll irritate the gum again if I go too high. I have a follow up with my dentist this Thursday, I hope the pocket has shrunk. That area feels tighter when I floss.
