Welcome! Thank you for watching. If you need help with brushing, flossing, waterpik use, or just want to know more about what goes on in a dental office, that is from a hygienist’s perspective, then you have come to the right place! I grew up with a ton of dental anxiety, but still wanted to be in the dental field. Through my experiences I have been able to overcome that fear and anxiety. I hope I can help someone else do the same. Dentistry is not as scary as folks perceive it to be. As we are in the 21rst century, not the 1940’s. Dentistry has come a loooong way since them. Our goal is education and health. We want you to keep your teeth, not only for proper function, but for overall health and wellness.
I just bought a Philips water flosser and it's my first water flosser ever. I was looking for an educational video to learn how to use it correctly and make the best out of it. THIS is the video I was looking for. It helped me a lot to introduce myself into the world of water flossing, thank you so much🫶🏻
This could be useful but it may be very difficult with her condition. If she chews on everything, hand her a toothbrush to chew on. It will help. Using proxy brushes are easier than trying to floss or use a waterpik. Care for the pics themselves, they can also be soaked in diluted vinegar and water for internal cleaning. Can wash with soap and water. And are recommended to be replaced every 3 months.
Thank you! I have whitened them in the past a number of times. If you want the easiest, best OTC whitening option, use Crest White strips. They work great and will lighten the least expensive way. If you want to go with a stronger solution, get a set of trays through your dentist. They last forever, as long as you take care of them and keep them away from animals. Gives you excellent results!
Wow I needed this way more than I realized. I’ve got deep pockets and I’ve been doing so much wrong for two months now. Ugh! Tomorrow is a new day. Thank you so much for caring enough to really explain how to use the water flosser unlike the Water Pik tutorial.
Does the waterpik have the same effect as dental floss in removing bacteria? Dental floss has me bleeding and very uncomfortable. Been doing research and your videos are really good. Some people said still use string floss for contact points because the waterpik still doesn’t work so I would like your opinion on this thank you
It has a better effect. I would still floss for contact points. By doing this, flossing does not have to be deep or aggressive. It can stay above the gum and the wateprik will remove everything below
@@holistichygienethank you very much I will do exactly that. I recently got the Phillip sonicare waterpik (I’m probably saying the brand wrong but I know it’s Powerflosser) both the counter top and also the Powerflosser 3000 which is the portable one as well for travel. I work in the industry; so my hours are long 12-16hr shifts at times. So trying to take better care of my dental health which I have neglected and I am afraid of dentists. I know that I need to go and get a check up. The only reason why I went previously was to remove my two upper wisdom teeth. Had no complications thank God. I was suppose to return for a cleaning and check up to see what other work I have to get done. Been using the Sonicare Toothbrush and I am amazed of how clean it cleans and my teeth started to whiten within 4 uses. My question to you about the Sonicare do you think it erodes the enamel of the teeth using it twice a day? Just asking.
7 or 8. What is the most important thing is using it once a day every single day. Bacteria is constantly building. It never stops. Only way to keep it from over growing is to use the waterpik daily, brush twice a day for two minutes each time. And any other tool used is an added bonus!
I recently bought a water flosser but its not a waterpik its another brand, when I used it for the first time( on lowest setting) , it hurt so much it almost felt like a needle was stabbing my gums also with some bleeding. This can't be normal right? my gums are pink and look healthy to me and I visited a dentist like a week ago and she told me my gums are very healthy and everything looks good. Why would there be pain and bleeding on the lowest setting? Also another question, how do I know if I'm pointing the angle of the nozzle correctly and not into the gumline when I can't see where I'm pointing it because my mouth is closed and I'm looking down at the sink? I just don't know what's going on with my mouth closed and where the nozzle is pointing.
Yes, you could have had residual bacteria that caused the bleeding and pain. If all that has subsided or disappeared, the consistent habit of using the wateprik to remove bacteria has done its job! It’s keeping bacteria from over growing and causing an infection. It should not hurt or bleed. Keep using it. Keep building the habit! As for thinking about the angle of the tip, leave the unit off. Set the tip to where it points directly at the gums, not into them. Make sure the position of the and is the most comfortable and natural for your hand. The tip can spin. Once you have the tip set, then fill up the reservoir, turn it on and go. The wangle will not change while using it. Unless you are biting the tip and turning it. You can always practice with the unit off. Get the feeling and the memory down. It gets easier and more comfortable. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Close enough is still excellent!
Start low on a 1 or 2. Over a two week period get the pressure up to the 6/7. Use warm salt water to rinse daily. Make sure you are brushing two times a day for two minutes each time. If it has been a while since your last dental visit, I would try to go.
Question: How can I share the waterpik with others in my family? Should I wash the tip after each person uses it or should everyone in my family have their own tip(and somehow keep track of whose each one belongs to)?
Yes, each person should have their own tip. There are colored bands at the bottom of the tips. Or you can use a sharpie to write the initial of their first name of the colored band.
This video is so clear and informative. I didn’t know if I was doing it correctly, so I would also use a string floss before the water floss just to be sure. The water pick seemed too “easy” and fast so I didn’t trust it. About a year or so ago I had really bad gum disease so now I’m extra careful and thorough to avoid regressing in my treatment
Sheesh, using this loud thing it sounds like I'm on a construction site. I'm always half asleep when brusing teeth before going to bed, but I would be wide awake instantaneously😱😱😱😱
I believe I have the best dentist. The only downfall is that this was never recommended. For some of us behind on visits and routine this could be a life saver.
🤣 always keep your eyes down looking at the sink, mouth closed around the tip. Let the water fall gently out of your mouth into the sink. Do not stare at yourself in the mirror, that is main reason to get water all over.
Hello. UK resident here, about to go back to the dentist after quite a gap. I had an old water flosser but was inspired to get a new one after watching you. Even after just 3 days using it, I can see and feel a difference. My question is about the dilution ratios for 3% hydrogen peroxide - say in 1 litre of water that I can then use. Also, is this a once a week, twice a week etc thing to add to the routine? Thank you ❤
@@holistichygiene just for interest, and to pick up on your points about healthy mouth and healthy body. My dad is currently in hospital with a leaky heart valve (which can be fixed, thank goodness). However they are going to check his teeth for any infection which could have caused the valve condition and it wasn’t there 2 years ago. So, it definitely pays to take care of your teeth.
Correct! Waterpik videos show it not touching. But all that I learned from them and their reps is it can and needs to touch. I have asked the question more than once 🦷
