How to walk uphill without leaning. Leaning forward with bad posture is common, especially walking uphill. Bad posture can cause back pain and other medical problems. You can fix leaning forward with this quick tip. This video will show how to use your core to walk uphill with perfect posture and low impact on the joints. Prevent back pain, hip pain, and knee pain by walking uphill correctly. You will notice many people leaning forward when they walk uphill, and it becomes more common as people get older. If you learn how to use your core properly now, you can fix you lean or prevent it from happening as you get older. The key is knowing when to start and end a step. The step begins with rotation of the core, and this must be done at the right time. If you do not rotate, or if you rotate at the wrong time, you will end up leaning forward and having a hard impact on your heel. This also causes the weight to be concentrated over the inside of the foot. This can cause flat feet and falling arches. It can also cause plantar fasciitis and other foot problems.

This is incredibly helpful! The correct way of walking you demonstrate reminds me of how i hike with poles. I didn't realize that's how i should always be walking! Thank you for the break down

Absolutely. The poles help unconsciously force you to do the correct core rotation.

The same applies that the step ends when the heel is off the ground and you initiate the next step by bringing the heel down with torso rotation. The hip actions are different on flat ground.

Why is it considered bad to lean forward when walking up a steep slope? Too much stress on back and joints?

It is misaligned posture, causing additional stress on the spine which is not aligned with the pelvis. It increases pressure on the knee joint and affects the weight distribution on the feet. It also indicates likely incorrect technique when walking on level ground that is just not as visible but also causes problems.
