3 Steps to Soften Your Walk-Walking Technique Exercise with Dr. Todd Martin

This 3-Step walking exercise can help you walk more softly, more fluidly, and with more confidence. This is a brief cut of my Rock Your Way to Better Walking exercise video, focusing entirely on the exercise itself.
Whatever your walking problem, this simple practice can help. Bring your forward heel down and your rear heel up by engaging your core correctly to trigger the heel rocker. Then level out your pelvis for a gentle foot placement using your lower abs. Finish off with a controlled forward lift. Then start the cycle over. This practice will train better posture, low impact foot placement, and a fluid swing through. You will improve the coordination between your upper body and your lower body. Create better body memory that will make your walking more fluid, more confident, and lower impact.
Part 1: Lowering the Heel Softly
Part 2: Engaging the Lower Abs to shift the weight to the flat of the foot
Part 3: Lifting up to complete the swing through
Then repeat the sequence on the other side for fluid walking technique.

Mastering this technique will help you reduce back pain, hip, knee, and foot issues. Prevent over-striding, leaning forward, duck feet, anterior pelvic tilt, slouching, and many other common walking problems. All of these walking errors can lead to misalignment of the spine and other joints, eventually resulting in pain. Some people develop pain early in their lives, but some people don't recognize the problem until they are older, and their joints are worn out. So many people end up needing hip and knee replacements, or suffering from chronic back pain, and the cause often is poor walking technique.

I had see & learned so many things about walking from this channel . but the problem is that i used to walk wrong which caused knock knee, now even I walk correctly,my leg is not lined up so what should I do?

That is a tough one. If there is already structural damage, it can be hard to fix. I hope with practice you can at least walk comfortably.

Dr. Can this exercise correct the slight swing of my hips from side to side? I found it better when looking at it from this angle.

What do you think of walkers? Can they be a stepping stone to walking again?

Walkers can be a necessity for some people. They can keep people walking when they could not otherwise, so in that sense, they can be a stepping stone to walking again. This would be especially true if the reason for needing the walking is something like surgery, where physical therapy and time can further improve the condition.

Talk less and walk more man. We are getting very little from this video. Do regular speed and slow motion with camera FOCUS ON YOUR FEET AND SPINE. It will help if that's what you want.

Seriously? I am explaining technique here. Just watching me walk does not translate something that can’t be seen with the eyes. Sorry to tell you, but you cannot see the rotation of my spine, unfortunately requiring a full 6+ minutes to explain. Sorry if you had something better to do. You can, perhaps, go watch my slow motion walking video where I do no talking and focus on the feet if that is more your speed. And I even did a slow motion clip here where, as matter or fact, you can see both my feet and torso pretty well.
