Totally agree,I've been hanging lining paper vertically for over 35 years,as you say as long as its done correctly there is no problem hanging a finished paper on top never had a problem, unfortunately I've had builders,gardeners and the younger generation of decorators telling me it's incorrect,I had one gardener tell my customer I'm doing it wrong and she asked me to leave, he ended up doing it and I got called back a week later because you could see his huge horizontal joins through the finished paper🤣🤣she ended up paying triple the cost because I had to strp back and do the whole thing again, let just say he's no longer her gardener anymore 😀 keep up the good work top decorator,I see your probably the only decorator who doesn't get abuse on that Facebook forum room we're on🤣 I never write on there I just sit back and watch the bitching that goes on. I've got my son to start watching your videos as he been working with me for 3 years now and sometimes I just haven't got time to go through everything when I'm working by a schedule,now he thinks your the king

I did a week long painting and decorating basics course à year or so back and I've learnt more from this than I did in that whole week. Nice one. Cheers Phil

This is the problem... Day and weekend courses... Week long, you can't learn enough. I was 4 years day release at college and the rest of the time doing my apprenticeship actually working. That's how you learn.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I'm 51 now and just doing my own bits and pieces but am learning that there is so much skill involved and it's one of them trades that is made up of knowledge and experience and endless tricks. Wish I'd got in to it earlier in life so I was a bit better at it now. Your vids are brilliant! Mucho respect.

Amen to that brother. Cross lining has always baffled me. I've always gone vertical. Keep it up fella

Cheers. As long as you work it out you don't have joints falling bon joints, you're fine. If you plan the room, plan your start and think it through... You won't have them lining up with each other.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Yeh, explained it very well. . I'll need to get myself a laser. I mainly do feature wallpaper and lining paper. Rarely do a full room but I can see the benefits now. I was tought to concertina fold paper. I'm glad I don't have to do that now! Pain when it comes to large ceilings 😁

You say about the 53cm repeat, my client this week handed me a roll with a 112cm repeat! Never had anywhere near that before. She had a shock that the worse case will be that I can only get two drops a roll. She didnt take into account the repeat when buying so things are now super tight!
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
Oh lol did she buy enough rolls? 53cm isn't that big.... It's when you go 60+ you start to worry if you have enough. Sounds like you haven't
@Racelinekarting
@Racelinekarting Год назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator no she didn’t, well if the cut falls badly and I’m using all of that 112 as waste we haven’t. If luck is with me then I have enough (long as I don’t do a cock up). I have warned her I may have to do a splice behind where the furniture sits worse case.

I’ve always applied lining paper to every wall I’ve hung finished paper would you agree this is the best way? 😊
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@@robbennett9631 it's not the way forward..... It's just the way ;) Always read instructions... 99% of the time it recommends it. Very few papers say not to line... But they are normally specialty papers. Or... Wood chip, anaglypta.. blown vinyl etc
@robbennett9631

I suppose what I’m asking is do you always use lining paper when you hang wallpaper or murals?

enjoying these wallpapers video's great stuff. with paste the wall are you waiting for a soaking time after pasting the wall or applying the paper strait away when going on lining paper?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 2 года назад
There is no soaking time with paste the wall non woven papers. Paste the wall, and hang your paper.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator when doing a chimney breast would you wrap around the externals or measure the longest bit add 5 ml cut and then rehang the cut peiece just like the internal way you've shown on your videos
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 2 года назад
@@richardloze5994 9 times out of ten corners run out, so I cut and re hang. Also depends on paper too. Heavy blown vinyls etc you may find you want to get it around in one. The main thing to watch for is when it goes around... You need to have a plumb edge to work back off. Hence cutting and re hanging allow you to keep the lengths plumb. If corner, internal nor external run out, nothing you can do about it. A neat wrap around and re hang visually looks better on the eye than those who try wrap around, then slice the next length back in. That's not a good way to do it.
