Many people think that spending less and living a life of less is about deprivation and scarcity; however, it is actually have abundance and empowerment. In this video, I want to challenge you to see the benefits of spending less and living a life of less by sharing 5 benefits of spending less.
1. Everything Becomes Cheaper
Instead of stop spending money, just stop spending money you don't have. The problem that most people have with money is they spend debt, which makes their lifestyle cost up to 12% more because they have to pay interest on everything. When you only spend the money you have, you naturally spend less, and your lifestyle costs a lot less.
2. You Can Live Your Life More Freely
Since most people spend debt, they end up owning money to a lot of different people. This makes them a bit less free to make decisions in life because they also have to consider the interests of the people they owe money to. When you only spend the money you have, which naturally means spending less, you don't owe anything to anybody and can live your life more freely.
3. You’re Not A Pawn In Someone Else’s Game
The argument that consumerism makes is that you are broken and products can fix you. And many people believe this argument and end up living a very materialistic lifestyle. All consumerism is, is a rich man's game where corporations try to maximize profits to please their greedy shareholders. When you see consumerism for what is it, you don't only spend less, but you want to spend less because you don't want to be a part of the game.
4. You Can Take More Risks In Life
We all have dreams of doing things out of the ordinary in life; however, money often holds people back in taking the risk. I believe in order to take a risk in life to pursue your dream, you have to have courage and financial stability. When you live within your means, don't take on debt, and have some savings, you are more free to take chances in life.
5. You Don’t Have To Work As Hard
Money is just a representation of time where we exchange our time for money. When we carelessly spend our money, we are wasting the time it took to make the money; however, when you are more intentional with your spending and spend less, you don't need as much money and so you have more control over your time.

What's another benefit of spending less and living within your means?
@essieoh6634
@essieoh6634 11 месяцев назад
One of the biggest benefits I have experienced from spending less and living within my means is less stress. I am not anxious over the possibility of unexpected bills. I recently had a filling fall out and the repair (an overlay) is costing me $1800. I'm happy to have the money and will happily part with it because I don't want to 'part' with any of my teeth! I also don't want to compromise on my nutrition so spending less money on other things frees up the money I need to buy the food I want- organic fresh food. In response to your video title, I have learned to want to stop spending money by wanting less stuff. I like the simple, uncluttered life that I live.

@workinprogresssince1974
@workinprogresssince1974 11 месяцев назад
@@JD_Lakad This is a difficult one. It depends on your individual goals. I stopped spending out of necessity. I didn't have the income and I was scared of getting into debt again for rubbish I didn't need to own and experiences that didn't really make me happy. Once you stop spending and you start to enjoy seeing the numbers going up in your bank account, you just lose your addiction to buying and instead develop an addiction to holding on to money. If you can learn to find your joy in saving you will stop enjoying spending money.

Call me crazy but this is why I’m glad I never bought into credit cards. I applied for one when I was 18 and didn’t understand the concept. Why borrow when I can just use the money I do save for expenses? My family still doesn’t understand how we can live without credit, but I do. The whole "fixing your broken self with consumer products" issue is an intriguing one. You may not necessarily feel broken. For me, shopping can be a distraction from life's complexities and, especially, life's uncertainties. It provides a dopamine boost and a (fleeting) sense of control. Even if we HAVE the money to buy a lot of stuff, it's important to acknowledge that we might be buying things simply as sport, to feel more alive. Luckily Amazon offers free returns (sarcasm). Great video as usual, Austin!

In our early 30s, he's still in loan/debt, if only he kept his 1st or even 3rd bike... And me? I still drive my 1st (and probably last) 10 y.o. scooter and saved a lot of cash which enables me for other opportunities to make money or even buy stuff IN CASH that is really needed.

You’re wrong that paying with credit costs more than paying in cash. It costs the same as long as you pay your credit card bills on time. Paying with credit also has the benefit of getting some percentage of cash back that most credit card issuers offer, and you build your credit score on top of that.
@dpajc056
@dpajc056 7 месяцев назад
yeah but most people can't control themselves and end up falling prey to credit cards. They see a large credit and think that's their own money. Later they get trapped paying super high interests. You think that banks don't know this? They're not the suckers my friend. People are.

I think the right word is purposeful, not minimalist. I am against wasting money when I live my life, out of necessity or the benefits it brings to my finances, but it's good when most people are more wasteful, as they subsidize our lifestyle, indirectly. I live in The Netherlands, where people are mostly frugal, here we even have to pay for ketchup packets or to use the toilet (if we even find one), as people don't have that abundance culture found in USA and Canada. If they gave people free water at bars here many would not order anything and those businesses would fail. Same thing with deals. Being frugal only works as a bonus when everybody else is not frugal. When everybody is frugal that becomes the norm and the system becomes optimized against you, forcing you to spend as much as possible against your will, while having less.

For Christmas, instead of asking kids what they want, ask them who they would like to help! Veterans, homeless, children's hospital, pregnancy resource center, food banks? Instead of thinking about treats and toys for themselves, get them thinking about how to bless others who have less than them.

haha, the first sighting of the grey started when I was 12! The lighting filming in my living room makes it look it look greyer than it actually is.

In one of your other videos, you mentioned that living debt free, gives you the power to say, f- you. This feeling is waaay better than the feeling I get when I buy something.

Another great video. Curious, Austin, how did you choose a stand-up comic for your risk example?
@ElAgustin
@ElAgustin 11 месяцев назад
I tried stand up a few years ago. I did like 10 open mic nights and realized it wasn't my thing. It's an extremely hard thing to do. But I was thinking about how at least tried and can look back the rest of my life knowing I tried and that it wasn't my thing. The same with this RU-vid thing. I think ultimately life is just about trying things and seeing what happens, whether or not you achieve it is completely irrelevant.
