What a time saver mate, nothing worse than cleaning paint out of paint rollers
@metal422life
@metal422life Год назад
What's even more of a Time Saver is that you don't actually have to clean your roller out meaning get the paint out of it take the thing off with your hand or just even knock it into the Paint Bucket if you so choose if the five gallon bucket is got less than a quarter or even half of the paint in it with that roller now attached hit it at full speed as you slowly pull it out I mean preferably you want to have a bucket that's like near emptied that is of that color but the centrifugal force will force almost all of that paint out of the roller itself. And then you take that ruler and then you stick it into warm soapy water and then let it sit for just a minute you could either be on the drill or not you could be getting other ones already and setting them into the bucket of warm water and then put them on one at a time you don't need to spend them in the bucket that has the warm soapy water in it lightly soapy. Pull that out put it into a completely empty bucket spin it now have another bucket this requires like four or five buckets LOL I'm a painter we have hundreds of them. Spin it in a empty bucket now dip it into a bucket with clean water put it back into the bucket that's empty spin it dip it again spin it and then after you've spun it nice and dry take masking tape and start at the end of the roller and without having your tape break once as tight as you possibly can wrap that Roller Head. Now when you want to go use it next put it onto your frame just as it is still wrapped in tape and don't forget to take the tape at the end part which you want to be technically at the outermost point on the frame. You want to have that tape folded about a half inch or so so it leaves a little tab that you can grab now with it on the frame grab that Tab and pull it as hard and fast as you can and it should completely come off in one go and if done successful your roller stayed clean the entire time and it also completely fluffed it and took out any fibrous material that could have ended up in your paint job you're welcome

Tip I find if you are painting the next day don't clean it out but wrap the tray and roller or brushes in a bag. The air doesn't get to it and it good to go.. 👍🏼😁

My neighbor also paints professionally. His method of cleaning his rollers is genius, he doesn't! What he does is to put the roller cover in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator overnight, so that the paint can't dry. And he's been doing this for 25 years and the only times is when there's an overnight power failure. At the end of the job, the roller cover is disposed of. Also the paint tray is covered in a plastic bag, for easy cleanup, just take the bag, and pull it off so that the outside of the bag is on the inside. Keeps thing nice and clean.

The painter you know musr be pretty rough, when you use a new roller sleeve itll leave behind hair " nap" from the roller, better to roller finish coat with a well used roller , i also do clean em often as i wrap in plastic , 1 with ceiling paint and 2 or 3 with low sheen / sealer . If colors arw similar by the time youve rolled a wall or 2 the right color will have come onto the roller

Wrapping in plastic ,as in the roll plastic that drops down last about 4 weeks in hot weather without drying out ,no need to put in fridge ,been doing it for near 20yrs

Doesn't have to go in the fridge, I have one that was sitting for a week in the heat and it was still fine. As long as the air can't get to it, it's fine.

Pretty sure this will work on the 460mm roller covers too with a deeper bucket of course but still a very handy trick!
@billshowto
@billshowto 2 года назад
It works on the 460mm rollers but you have to either use a deep bucket or flip the roller over which is what I do 👍👍👍
@paulvaughan9556
@paulvaughan9556 2 года назад
You can use a length of pvc tube with a cap on the end to get the length for the 460mm works well.

Nice idea, but it's not a time saver bc refilling the bucket is where the time is lost. i would have spray cleaned 2 rollers in that time. Thanks tho.
@The_Handyman_Can
@The_Handyman_Can Год назад
Good gadget, but filling the bucket less than once would usually be more than enough to have cleaned the roller with a jet nozzle on the hose. So your original method uses far less water, but also doesn’t require the drill or attachment. However this is a good option if a hose isn’t available, or having to cleanup inside a building with just a sink and bucket.

That would be perfect if it had meta stick that you put in the drill and then after 20cm the cleaner on the other end.

@D.N. Sorry I'm so late in my reply. Clean paintbrushes, why? DO THIS ONLY IF YOU'RE A HOME PAINTÈR. The average home painter paints once on the average of every 4-5 years, if THAT often. So saving a paintbrush between paintings, is not worth the effort for the money saved. Now, there are what are considered generally as 3 grades of brushes, which depend on price/quality, cheap/junk - much bristle loss during use; a few dollars more - medium (home) occasional/rare bristle loss; expensive/extremely rare (if any bristle loss. Buy the medium priced brushes and store, rinsed ( there is no need to completely clean) the brush between coats of the same color when applying more than one coat obviously or if you're going to multiple areas whe doing touchups, and place it in the refrigerator. This keeps the brush 'wet' so that it doesn't dry out and when finished place it back in the plastic and dispose of it. The only downside of this method is that at the end of the thirty years you lived in the home, you probably have gone through about 10 brushes. Another hint, if you're doing small touch-ups sometimes I don't even use a brush at all, if it's a standard color, often a felt tipped pen will work for a color match. Here I'm talking about after patching a small picture hanger nail hole or similar hole. Here the problem is gloss mismatch, if the spot is more of a matte finish than the surounding area ofte n buffing, when dry, will gloss up the area to become invisible or at least close enough to be non-irritating (this WILL ALWAYS depend on the S.O. 😁) Larger areas will, of course, require the use of a brush or roller.) In other words, the need for either a paintbrush is so seldom in the life of a home owner having one around is financially worthless due to the time used to clean it. IF YOU'RE A PROFESSIONAL, YES IT IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND EFFORT, as the client pays for it and let's face it, it's your favorite brush because it feels so comfortable in your hands.

This doesn't save time, or water, or adequately clean a roller without ridiculous amounts of water and time. Get a nice jet nozzle attachment on the hose and you will get it clean in a few seconds, and it'll spin so damn quick that it sounds like a helicopter taking off, once completely clean water is coming out of the nap you simply hold the jet of water at the end near the frame and it'll be spun dry. The other issue, even if you get this tool, you need a really nice drill with lots and lots of power and high rpms that you don't mind getting paint on for it to even work adequately. I could have just used a hand spinner at those slowass speeds the nap was moving at (should have prespun in the empty bucket to get more paint out before dipping, and then do multiple dunks and spins in the initial bucket of water anyways before wasting another clean bucket of water) I'd honestly rather clean it by hand under the sink than to wait on bucket after bucket after bucket of water and slowly spinning.

I hate to clean rollers so much that I don't. At $1-2.00 each for refills, I consider it a cost of doing the job. I place the roller in a gallon plastic bag to rest between coats. When finished, I place the roller in the bag, grab it from the outside and pull the refill off the roller and discard the works. Two minutes at the sink to clean the metal roller and its beer time!
