This brings back memories! My sister and I used to wash all sorts of things this way. When the washing machine broke we even washed our jeans like this. These were lessons we learned from our grandma. I am blessed to have a washing machine at home now but because she taught me that I have always been able to manage without one. 😌
Awe I love this! What a beautiful outlook on life & beautiful memories to have! ♥️ & right?! Washing machines weren’t always a thing so there are definitely other ways to get clothes cleaned!
Had to laugh the tub reminding you of washing clothes in the bathtub. Your post reminded ME of the times we washed the dishes in the bathtub when our sink was in disrepair. It was an old house and, I can't remember exactly, but it must have been a drain issue. Happy memories to you!🤣
Thank youuu! I was watching a movie in bed today and fell asleep and spilled the rest of my taco salad all over myself. Thank you and GAIN IS THE BEST SCENT EVERRRR!! ❤️❤️
In the past when I have used my tub to wash stuff I found it helped to keep a seperate toilet plunger just for laundry and instead of doing all that work by hand the plunger was much easier. 😊
I just did this to my king size conforter. Its so massive and I dont like to go to the laundry mat so I tried this. Its so heavy but I did it lol Thank you
WOW!!!! You are one heck of a mom and wife!!!! I sure wish that I was young enough to do that, but I’m hitting 60, and I could never be on my knees like that!! My hat is off to you young lady!!♥️♥️♥️♥️💜💜💜💜💜💜
I'm in my 30s and have osteoarthritis of my neck, spine and knees along with thinning discs etc. So what I plan to do is stand and swish the comforter around with my clean feet, like I am squishing grapes. Wish me luck.
@@ngoddess9684 Okay Lucy, let know how it goes! Best of luck. I did the best I could and then let it just drain on its own in the bathtub, and then I drag it outside real quick and the sun did the rest! So happy with the results! 🌸🌸🌸🌸💜💜👍🙏
You might just consider creating some sort of wooden stand. Kind of like one of those clothing racks you find at the store - just roughly made out of wood instead…. And without the wheels of course. It would be ideal if it could fit inside of your bathtub, yet it’s tall enough to suspend (half the height of) the down comforter by way of using a closet dowel across the top. This would that allow you to use the detachable showerhead sprayer and rinse out the soap on the front side/on the backside/and then on the two inside front and back sides. Then you just let it sit there for a couple hours while it drip dries most of the way before you throw it into your dryer. I think if your time is money and you look at what your hourly wage is… And you compare this job to it, you should try to find a simpler method - one that does most of the work by just waiting rather than having to exert physical labor. Otherwise it’s definitely worth it to just take it to a laundromat!
After washing in the tub, I would put it in the big plastic container to keep it from dripping water on the floor and put it in the washing machine just for spinning only. Then put it in the dryer. 👍
This was what I was confused about, how to dry it after without dripping everywhere. I am going to do this. Thanks!

Great video! I definitely needed to learn this because I'm always stuffing my comforters into our washer when clearly they don't fit 😏... NEW SUBSCRIBER!! Cant wait to watch more!
Thank you! & I also shove my son's comforter which is for a full size bed in the washing machine & noticed that it also doesn't get cleaned the greatest! I am so happy to have you here! Thank you☺💕
Thank you 😊 this helped me out a lot!! The laundromat is closed at my place and its been 2 weeks still not fixed!!! Ugh.. so I'm in NEED of cleaning my blankets and comforters!! Especially since my 6 month daughter sometimes spits up and slobers all over our blankets 🙃 lol
I have had chronic back pain since 19 (now 25) been through two pregnancies to make it worse & my boyfriend has the worst knees lmao so I completely understand!! But I think it's worth it to not have to go out to the icky laundromat during a time like this!!
Awesome video, I actually learned something new!! I came across your channel from one of your comments and I just wanted to stop by and show support! Keep it up!
I just soaked/washed a heavy sweatshirt with oxiclean for my daughter, my gosh, to heavy for me to lift, squeeze & rinse, but I did it, I have a Queen size comforter, but will have to take to laundromat, too much for me, but I appreciate the video!
Thank you for posting this. I have a little puppy that peed on mines. Too big for my machine so, this is a good option. I also went to a car wash and used the carpet hangers to hold it up as I sprayed it folded in half then flipped it to do the other side. Worked good.As far a wringing it out I hung it up to drip out most of the water in the sunlight it takes hours but, it works before putting it in the dryer.
Tip: don’t use warm water when trying to get the soap out. It doesn’t go to well. And letting it soak in cold water is best so use cold water to let it soak and to get the suds out.
That’s actually not correct. You should always go based off of your comforter tag. However, since most detergents are surfactant based, it washes out better in warm water.
@@arielllmarieee okay I get where you’re saying that. But color based items should always be rinsed or washed in cold water. And your comforter is grey. At least that’s what I was told. Let me know
You should’ve mushed grapes like with your feet like Lucille Ball - on top of this down comforter. That would’ve saved your back a whole bunch of pain and wrists any difficulty in accomplishing this task. In the event you didn’t want to get dishwashing detergent on your feet, just simply put a plastic garbage can liner around each one of your legs… You could even reuse the garbage can liner later on - and your garbage will smell like lovely laundry detergent!
I am going to try the tub, got a couple of plugs as I normally just shower. I have washing wands so could use that to agitate the blanket. All other blankets and sheets do fit in my portable washer but two do not, I can then spin them and get them in my dryer one at a time.
Thank you so much for this video super helpful!😊 Personally, I watched the whole thing, but was then curious how the drying process went. I looked and saw your comment and saw it took one cycle. But I was also curious because people say to use a laundromat dryer, and I wasn't sure if an average home dryer could handle an average king size comforter.
You’re so welcome!! It did only take one cycle to dry!! It really depends on how well you wring it out. It could take more than one cycle if you don’t get out as much water as possible! I have an average dryer & I have no issues ever drying it in there!! If you are worried about sticking it your dryer, you could always drape it over a railing or use 4 chairs from your dinning room & put them in a square & you can drape it over those! I hope this helps 😊😊
I've done this before and it's very exhausting I put it in the dryer the dryer actually burned it and I ruined the comforter lol. So I bought a new one and then I took it to the dry cleaners and paid 50 bucks for them to clean it and that was basically a waste of my money so I'm back to the bathtub but this time I'm gonna have to let it air dry
Oh okay. Around here it is $7 just for wash & if you do it often it can add up. But that doesn’t mean that just because immunocompromised people can afford it that they want to risk going out.
I forgot to ask, how did you dry it? I’m a new subscriber and I don’t wanna run my favorite comforter. I wanna make sure that all the material in each diddle Square stays like it supposed to. So I don’t really know how to dry it but I’m gonna try what you did with the whole bathroom method. I am new to your channel and I am excited to see you more. Thank you for sharing and if you can please let me know how I would dry my bamboo comforter. PS I usually hang dry my comforters. But I was just curious how you did yours. Thank you, my hats off to you girl 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🤗💜🤗💜
She put it in her dryer. 7:50. BTW, one of the comments suggests putting it in the washing machine first just for spinning only to remove excess water. Then put it in the dryer.
Do you know if you can do this with a goose down duvet? The tag said not to machine wash but I read dry cleaning is bad for you to breathe in and doesn’t get it as clean 🤔
Definitely not with down. The feathers have oils on them that will become stripped and it will not loft properly. To wash down I recommend purchasing a special detergent made for down. You can do it in the bathtub like this using the right detergent but you’ll want to be very gentle and have a way to lift it without tearing the fabric or compressing the down. See videos on washing down sleeping bags. The process is the same.
hey!! i have an ugg comforter set! and i was wondering if this would work! because i just tried it in the machine and one of the pillow cases teared a little bit. but should i do it this way for now on or still use the machine because im kind of worried😩
I have a question do you know how to watch the Victoria's secret share fluff blanket or share for blanket Can in fact me remember the name right now But do you know how to wash those by hand
I am sure the method I used in this video would be gentle enough. You should probably read the tags in the blanket though to know what temp water to use. If it doesn’t have a rage then you should probably just use cold water & some detergent. I wouldn’t use fabric softener either. Hope this helps!
I don’t have Twitter at the moment. I’m sorry. Do you know the type of material the blanket is? Is it faux fur, Sherpa, fleece? This will help me get a better idea how how to wash it.
Rinse them off with cold water. Lay them out flat. Spray the stain with one part vinegar to one part water & a tablespoon of dawn dish soap. & then shake baking powder over the stained area & leave it until it dry. Once dry, shake the sheets off outside. Repeat if needed & make sure it's heavily saturated with the vinegar/water mixture. Then throw them in the wash & the stain would be gone! I hope you feel better soon :)
From a third world country to a developed country every once in a while you gotta get dirty. This makes you realize that you need a bigger washing machine that can wash this off or get a single size comforters for each of your family member.
Can you look at ecological ways to clean? :) Bleach :(. We gotta save the plannet sister - let's look at only natural products only? Difficult I know, but we have got to adapt to changing times - Mother Eart is crying... ttttttther and our time is running out...
Of course! I only bleach my tub or my kitchen sink if raw meat has been thawing in there. I really want to make sure I kill all the pathogens & bacteria. I do use Mrs. Meyers & Method cleaning solutions such as, toilet cleaner, bathroom sink cleaner, window cleaner, kitchen cleaner, dish soap, hand soap, lotions, hand santizer, etc. These products all natural & are earth & environment safe! & they are even better for households with pets & children. Trust me. I really hate bleach also! It's used very seldomly. Thank you for loving the earth :)
I put mine in the dryer but you can always hang it to dry. Maybe over a stair railing or drape it between two pieces of furniture. Just make sure to wring it out really well before hanging it. Or place towels underneath so it won’t drip water onto your floors!
