With summer cookouts going on, I wanted to make a cake to look like my favorite summer fruit... a WATERMELON! I colored the cake layers to resemble the layers of a watermelon and used the same colors for my buttercream. I alternated between fondant and chocolate chip "seeds" to finish the cake!
Cake recipe:
3 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1½ c. unsalted butter
3 c. sugar
6 large eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 c. whole milk
-cream the butter and sugar
-add eggs one at a time
-alternate mixing in dry ingredients and milk
-add vanilla last
-separate into different bowls and color each bowl
