I'm Michelle, but my family and friends refer to me as Shelfie! Help me try different simple baking/cookie recipes on Shelfie's Sweets! I'll be uploading 1 video a week! :)
Hi! I used americolor blue food gel. I started with the darkest color in a small bit of American buttercream and then added one scoop of the white buttercream a little at a time to get the ombré effect
This is American buttercream with a little cocoa powder and black food gel! I made the buttercream a day before I needed to decorate to really let the color soak in
Hi! :) I use Liz Marek’s vanilla cake recipe, sugargeekshow.com/recipe/vanilla-cake/ For chocolate cake I use this recipe addapinch.com/the-best-chocolate-cake-recipe-ever/ For the peanut butter cake I just added some peanut butter to the batter of the vanilla cake and swapped out some butter
Can you approximate the dimensions of the body? I am trying to replicate it and I only have 9 x 13 pans (but two of them) I am wondering if it will still work?
Hello! 9x13 is what I used as well!. I used two pans and then just cut it into pieces to make the size of the cake I wanted. I'm not too sure of the exact dimensions, since it was made from just basic shapes (squares and rectangles), I just eye-balled it until it looked proportional before frosting it. I then took it back apart and assembled with frosting
Hi! I use americolor gel food coloring. You can find every color right on amazon! With black, you do have to let it saturate the buttercream for a little bit to get the true black color
Hi! It is just your typical white choc ganache drip. I heat up 1/3C heavy cream and pour it over 1C white choc chips. Stir until smooth and then add the color! I let it cool to room temp before using on a chilled cake
Michelle Frew thank you so much. I’m trying to make a similar cake for my daughters bday next week. I love the color blue. Hope I can create something like this lol never done anything like this lol
I did not! Once the chocolate hardens just enough, it peels right off. If you attempt to peel it off and you notice some sticking, that means it isn't dry enough yet
FATEMA LOHAWALA I am! Under @shelfiesweets I used candy melts for this because it hardens quickly. You can use regular chocolate as well, it just might take longer to set
It's definitely recommended. When adding in fake or real flowers I always try to add an extra layer of icing for the flowers to stick into. That way it does not even actually touch the cake layers. If it is real flowers, i usually put a piece of parchment under the extra icing so the customer can just take it right off
Thank you! I'm making this cake for my daughter's 7th birthday tomorrow. My bakery choices were limited right now with everything going on, but you make this look so easy I'm confident I can do it!
