whoa, that looks awesome ... I've used oil paints before to weather but have never seen the added trick with flicking on the naptha!

Give it a go! It’s almost mind blowing how easy and effective it is.

First I just want to say thanks for this awesome video. I was really intimidated with this paint job and this made it super easy so thank you! How long should I expect these to take to dry? Should I plan on putting some type of top coat over the oil paint? It's been almost 48 hours and they still aren't completely dry. I can pick them up and handle them carefully, but the oil paint still rubs off easily.

Naptha helps the dry time. I’d say a solid 24hrs from finish.

This is a fantastic technique, man! What, in your experience, has been a good clearcoat to use over the piece once the oil/naptha has set?
@offearth3d
@offearth3d Год назад
I haven't had any issues with clear over it , once the oils are fully dry.

Really enjoyed watching your technique, quick question though: I plan on weathering a piece of mine that I was planning to paint mainly with spray-paint and then seal with a clearcoat. Would the clearcoat protect the piece from this paint thinner? if so, is there a particular clearcoat i should aim to get for durability?
@offearth3d
@offearth3d 3 года назад
Depending on the clear, yes. I use automotive 2K clear so you really have to use hard chemicals to get it off.

Do you clear coat the piece before this process?
@offearth3d
@offearth3d 2 года назад
Yes I do. Montana makes Varnishes that I use to seal coats as I weather.

I use spray paint for my props. Do I need to coat the paint either anything before I apply the oil/naptha?
@offearth3d
@offearth3d 25 дней назад
I would always.

I can’t find Naphtha in my area, can I use regular paint thinner, knowing it will take longer to dry?
@offearth3d
@offearth3d 2 года назад
Never tried it. I know you can use mineral spirits too.

Thanks @@offearth3d ..! I’ll look into that as well. I think either one will work however the drying time will be longer .. no biggie

Does the prop need to be clear coated first?
@offearth3d

always clear coat 1st

@@offearth3dwith what (do you recommend)?
@offearth3d
@offearth3d 27 дней назад
@@winterpull depends on what the base layer of paint is. Let’s just say Acrylic, just a varnish of choice.

Dont oil paints take weeks to dry ? Anyway to accelerate that ?
@offearth3d
@offearth3d 3 года назад
Naptha will accelerate that
