I have such a unique color scheme in my newly renovated bathroom that I wanted to weave some custom hand towels to match perfectly! I'll walk you through the entire weaving process from start to finish and discuss in detail how to warp using the direct tie-up method. I'll be weaving on a 20" Schacht rigid heddle using a 12 dent reed and sport weight 100% cotton yarn for both warp and weft.
Check out my blog post for detailed steps on how I modified the pattern to work on a rigid heddle loom: randombathome.com/how-to-weav...

I’ve watched several videos on weaving in anticipation of buying a rigid heddle loom. And, though I see that the others prepared me, this has got to have been the most informative and enjoyable video tutorial! So many great tips that I hadn’t heard or seen anyone else use- stand out color to determine between two projects, using a thinner yarn at the beginning and end of a project to make the hem easier to sew (and less bulky, too, I bet). I absolutely love the idea of using the Fibonacci sequence to create a pattern- it gets my creative juices flowing. I’m excited to get more prepared to buy a loom and get started weaving!

yay! I'm so happy you found the video informative. I try and include as much info as possible without creating an hour long video. The Fibonacci sequence is always a winner, I have plans to use it again for drapes. Good luck with your rigid heddle purchase.

Great tip to use a thinner yarn at beginning and end for easier hemming. Also use of contrast yarn to separate the towels. Thank you!

Just a heads up, take up is not the same thing as shrinkage. Take up is the amount of length loss to the action of going over and under threads the deflection from the straight and to end path. Shrinkage is the washing size decrease. Some of that is also just the absence of tension. Some people consider that shrinkage some people think consider that take up. Even for cotton, which has limited stretch, as soon as it’s off of tension, it will be smaller. I personally include that in take up, but I also often lump together take up, lack of tension, and shrinkage to a joint slightly higher percentage. The actual number depends entirely on the materials.

Thanks! I got it from Purl & Loop! It looks like they don't have the plastic version anymore, but there's a few wooden options. Mine has the 3 different epi spacings on it, which is very handy. purlandloop.com/collections/swatch-makers

Haha, why do people who do fiber arts always have cats that attack their yarn! Lol. I'm cursed with two cute fluffs that want to eat my warp.

Direct warping, not direct tie up method. Direct tie up is for multi harness looms, directly tying each treadle to one harness. Otherwise a good video.
