Sometimes its the customers that are low-balling you so remember that. I had one guy I estimated tons of work in the house, 7k and they called me back and said they want to go with me because I was more organized and I broke down my line items better than the other guy but he quoted them 3k... and told me ill show you his bid. And I wasn't budging off my 7k so I said "show me" they said "you really want me to show you"? I said you said you would show me the bid I didn't ask you. They said " oh so you don't believe me? I said hey now your the one willing to show me the bid how be charged you with the cost of materials 3k when I'm at 7k with no material cost. I said well if you like my managing and organization I'm 7k for the job. Anyway I didn't get the job but sometimes you gotta know your worth and I wasn't about to break my back for 3k

Yeah the client was a lying scumbag. Good on you for dodging them. If you had done their job they wouldn’t have paid you $3k either, they would’ve found SOME excuse to not pay you at all, unless the job was absolutely $50k-qualify-level-job perfect

In my area there are many Immigrant workers that do things very cheap and do very good work. More and more people are realizing that and are hiring them. People are saying " screw it " I will save the few thousand!

In my area if you look the part, you get the part majority of the time. I come to all my estimate meeting with a clean work shirt with my company name, tell them what to expect when work begins, and give them my price. I do sometimes get the "you are a bit on the high side but your knowledge and professionalism made us chose you."

Haha same, same. The reality is professional businesspeople keep their word. Fly by night Latin people often will screw the homeowner out of money and not do the work

I am so glad I found this video. I have learnt few great things today so thank you for putting this video free. And, I have a question if anyone could please help me with, How to handle a customer who seems to be just collecting quotes and NOT serious to get the job done? So far, I am putting all my efforts for every customer but my gut feeling is mostly right whether or not a customer would get back to me for more discussions. Thank you for help in advance.

When I get low ball customers just calling to price work over the phone I get all the details then factor a number in my head then tell them to get 2 to 3 quotes and call us back and see where we are. Never show your cards to low balling customers

Low balling is amazing.. guy use to work for a roofing company, saved up bought all the equipment he needed and went out and did business..... he was cheaper about 60% then the other business out there.. he did an amazing job, amazing quality, and we was 60% cheaper then every one else........ He made a good profit, and he took allot of customers from people who has been out for 20 or 30 years....
@charlesg7926
@charlesg7926 2 года назад
Yeah but he didn’t really do good. If he spent tens of thousands on equipment and he’s only making an “okay” living, then he’s an IDIOT. I make $200,000 profit a year lol.

Maury: The lie detector test proved: that was a lie. What he did was: stop swing the hammer for someone else for $25/hr and bought himself a job where he swung the hammer for $25/hr. He took a lot of customers: sure he did. Right up until he went back to work for his competition so he could pay off the hundreds of thousands of $ he owed the bank and irs.

It boils down to vibration level. I’ve got annuities that state that they’re willing to pay me $400.00 per man hour in 2023 - (Including Labor and Materials.) That’s what the big general contractors are charging that literally have billions of dollars worth of overhead. If you don’t pay me $400.00 per man hour in 2023, then I’m not showing up to work.
@danielhausbeck9976
@danielhausbeck9976 Год назад
Different customers have different vibrational levels. A customer that’s looking for a “Deal” is going to be looking for a “Chuck in a truck” kind of contractor. They’re not looking a contractor who pulls up in a brand new $100K truck with nice logos and branding on it, and USDOT Numbers on the side. The cheap customers are looking for a contractor who’s driving a 10-20 year old truck, trailer, power equipment. The cheap contractors give off this vibration that the customers can sense.

The best contractor I ever worked with was a retired carpenter. He drove an old pickup truck and self-performed all the work. When he turned in the bid to remodel my basement, he was 1/3 of the price. Literally no overhead had to go into his bid and zero risk, but he was limited to doing one job at a time. A lot of people didn't hire him because they thought he was a low-ball bidder, and they wouldn't get the quality. As a contractor, you have to get your price and not concern yourself with low baller bids, if you estimate a lot of jobs, you might miss something, but you always want to error on being high opposed to being low. It's the job you perform and lose money on that kills your business. Do that too much and the bank stops loaning you money.

I don’t compete. I go in explain what I’m going to do and give them a price. Then they decide to use me or not. I’m currently in progress on a drywall and paint job. I was over 3x higher than their other bids and I got the job. Thanks to watching the fight I have learned some of the communication skills needed to sell at a higher price. I’m finding money is usually not the issue it’s being able to confidently back up what you charge with an amazing customer experience.
