When the King and Knight are separated I like to think of using your pieces to "checkmate the knight" aka trap and win it.

@2:09 Ke6 is similar to the idea. Ke6, Ke8, Rg8+, Nf8+, Kf6 forcing the king to move away and Rxf8.

By the way, I once had an unusual pawnless endgame in a serious competative game.. I was an entire rook up, but unfortunately I was not able to find a way to win. I think we had two minor pieces each as well, which is indeed a very unusual situation to find yourself in, wich of crouse was the reason I was more or less clueless in the actual over-the-board situaion.

Thanks for this! Can you make more videos about using the knight? They're the hardest piece for me to use most effectively...I never know how to get it where I want it to go. That being said, I just managed to break 800 blitz rating in a closed position game with no bishops and a sweet checkmate threat with two knights and a forced queen capture 😊

@2:22 another option is Ra/b/c/d/e1. If Nf8 or Kh8, Ra/b/c/d/e8 and then it's mate in 1. Anything else and black loses the knight.

Maybe do a series on end game positions too. It’s consistent expectant content that makes or breaks a lot of channels. If you notice a lot of channels have a series or live interaction often and it’s what mAkes the channels. Just trying to help with a few suggestions

2:26 I would play the rook that way to threat checkmate so I will keep it on the 1st line but just move it. If black king moves to the corner it's mate and if he moves away we take the knight

The idea is really similar to checkmate a lone king, we need to slowly squeeze the region for the piece (king/knight) to move and finally create an attack it cannot escape

Another technique can be done at 2:09 White goes Ke6, The night has no good squares to go to, so the black has to play Ke8, white follows up with Rg8+ black has to play Nf8 and white responds Rh8 and puts black in zugzwang voila...

I've been back to playing chess 5 months ago and and just barely won a rock vs knight end game. I had the advantage, but it almost got to a draw, until my opponent let me pin his knight away from the king. Those pesky Knights! It does matter what the king does because it’s difficult to keep the knight near the side or the corner with the king covering a few squares without the opponents king coming after the rook. I usually play against the computer and I have not yet found a win. Thx

Edit: verdict: It's more straightforward and wins the knight faster, but the sequence shown in the video wins the game faster, as black not abandoning the knight loses quite fast and otherwise the knight is won faster anyways
