Here I show how I winterize my 1996 Yamaha Waverunner jet skis. I like to get antifreeze in my engine just for the extra insurance. This method would work with any jet ski that has a flush hose connection somewhere in the engine compartment. Thanks for watching!

Great video!!! I have two similar skis, still going strong. This is the most direct winterization video I've seen. Thank you very much.

Hey, thank you! Not many folks appreciate the 90’s era style anymore. It seems like Ski-Doo set the norm for the newer styling.

Thanks. I was scared. I just started mine to burp it. And it did not freeze. Lol luck. I could not sleep at night lol. 3 years in a row. . Stupid question. Is there crank case oil that needs changed.??? 😮

Thanks for the comment! Nope, no crankcase oil. It’s all lubricated by the 2-stroke oil in the gas.

That pink stuff is not for an engine, it also should not be mixed with any water at all or it will freeze. Please look it up

Crazy, as I've used this stuff in my '63 Resorter (327 V-8) for more than 15 years. It is true that RV anti-freeze should not be diluted with water, but some water in the pipes when this is done is no problem. In fact, that little bit of water is WHY you would do this. I doub't it's needed on a jetski, but it won't do any harm.

You're a Weiner. That pink stuff is designed to go through the engine to keep the engine block from freezing.

Appreciate the video! I have the same jetski and I just bought it so its my first time winterizing it. For the antifreeze, could I just put a funnel in the hose tab and pour it into that versus the hose/bucket contraption? Also is it absolutely necessary to pull the battery and put it on a battery maintainer? I was also wondering what you recommend for storing it outdoors in the winter as far as a cover.

Hey Nick Cortoz- it’s cool that you have the same ski! There aren’t many of us around! Regarding the funnel idea- absolutely fine. I have actually done that method too. Pulling the battery isn’t a must, but it would be good to make sure it is fully charged before it sits all winter. I stored these two in a car port last winter, which was great for keeping snow off. With prior jet skis, I built a little wooden support in the middle of my double trailer that could support a big tarp. It sort of made a teepee over the skis. Not great, but it did the job. Hopefully I can get the car port cleared out enough to use it again this winter. Good luck, man!

@@NashwaukSteve thanks for the info! I’m trying to winterize mine now but it doesn’t have the hose for the antifreeze. Was yours modified?

Hmmm. I don’t think so, but I’m not 100% on that. However, all 4 90’s jet skis I’ve had have had a flush line. I think it’s factory so they can be flushed of salt water if used that way. Maybe it was capped on your machine?

Is running antifreeze really necessary? I usually just start my ski up and Rev it a bit to blow all the acces water out. I have a 2000 polaris slh 700

@NashwaukSteve Год назад
Hi Matt- I’d say probably not. I admit it may be overkill, but where I live I don’t want to take any chances with any water trapped in the engine. I’m on a past ski, I didn’t rev it well and it blew the lower gaskets out when the water froze. I’m extra cautious now.

why do you start engine again at 3 min 27? You say to get everything out... but didn't you just put Antifreeze that you wanna keep in? you already purged unwanted stuff by putting coolant, no?

Having the block empty is best imho, so I try to blow it all out. But if anything remains trapped, at least i know it’s antifreeze and not water. That’s why. Necessary, maybe not.

Good video, but the antifreeze is totally pointless.
@NashwaukSteve
@NashwaukSteve Год назад
Maybe so. The liquid should all blow out by running the throttle with the ski tipped back. I’m just being extra cautious, as I did blow out some gaskets due to freezing in an old Polaris ski. It’s a $4 insurance policy. Thanks for the feedback!
