How to write a script for video?
Video courses are our bread and butter here at GrowthLab -- we’ve produced more than 15 of them! Video is a great way to add massive value to your information products. If you’re just getting started with video, it can be a little overwhelming. Where do you even start? How do you structure it? How do you keep your viewer’s attention? As someone who does video regularly, I can’t tell you how valuable it is to have a solid video script in front of you. That’s why I asked Heather Giannone from our Product Development Team to show you exactly how we do it. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how to write a script for video.

I have sometimes built a script in reverse. By that, I mean that I would talk first and record it, then create a script from what I spoke. Some topics are really natural or really passionate. I’m able to catch more that way, because I’m more relaxed.

Transcribing conversational speech is a great place to start from when writing a script.

My tip to making scripts is: write to solve a problem! Do some research about the topic, read comments on youtube videos, understand the problem very well so you can write to solve them! If not for solving something, why would I write? Im not a poet! Thats it :)

I haven't written a script for anything yet, but when I do write long form pieces I usually write the meat first, then the closing, then I figure out what works best as my opening. It helps me get rid of "blank page" syndrome and it's served me really well over the years! Thanks for the video, I learned a lot!

Thank you for this! I've just started my journey on learning how to be a copywriter so I could feel like I'm getting my life back while trying to figure out how I could make it enjoyable by mixing in what I know and what I went to school for. I went to school for film. So to know that there's copywriting for video scripts has me speechless right now! I'm so overjoyed to learn this information! And your video on how to write a video script was so detailed. It was such a huge help. Thank you again!

I've done about 3 hours of research on youtube looking for the best format for writing video scripts and this is by far the most detailed video I have come across. In fact, I have it in my routine that whenever I sit down to write a new video script I go for a jog to get my heart rate going if I am feeling a bit sluggish and low energy, then I come back and meditate for a bit to clear my mind, then I watch this video to give me the frame of mind I want to be in while I am writing, then I start writing. You guys are great! Thanks for sharing this content.

The course you scripted seems like it would be very short. How long was the actual course it was designed for? I'm curious because I've seen a simple "how to" course that has a little more than 30 minutes of actual talking across 35 slides. Can the example course you created be completed in under an hour? I especially like the 'outline' technique, where you can add 'meat' to the 'bones'! For me, one thing that I use (similar to Google docs) is OneNote. I like it because I can start work on one device and continue on a different one without pause. I think if it were more than just me looking at the script, I'd have to go with a google doc to keep up with the modifications. Thanks again for providing this video because and reminded me to include the CTA at the end! ~ EM

Ramit It's a little bit off topic How you can handle the situation when your employee try to negotiate with you using your negotiation script. Does they use the same exact timing, creating portfolio in front of you. If they need help like how to make your boss impressed or how to ask raise and they go to your material and use the exact techniques in front of you. What's your reaction in that moment Do you smile or laugh.what do you do.? Is this weird? I think you have to go through serious challenges when it comes to hiring. I encourage you to answer my question not in serious mood but in fun way

what If I use Powerpoint slides with bullet points in a teleprompter instead of script? so that I focus on maintaining eye contact with the viewer and speak freely because I already have the whole concept in mind and I don't read word for word.

Hey guys, huge fan of your work! I actually have a question for you, I've tried to make videos before for my ZTL business and I use the confidence monitor you've mentioned in the video. However, I have trouble delivering the lines with the right pronunciation, tonality, etc in the first attempt (perhaps because English isn't my first language?) Because of that, I have to film multiple takes of the same lines and then edit a lot afterward. Is this normal? Does it get better with practice? Am I missing something? Thank you so much again!
@GrowthLab
@GrowthLab 6 лет назад
Very normal and you get better with practice. It took me many years to get good! Keep practicing. Study yourself on camera. And if you want to accelerate your skills, get a coach!

I'd say: Is this normal? Yes Does it get better with practice? Yes Am I missing something? Probably not :-)
@MarianMadonia
@MarianMadonia 6 лет назад
It’ VERY normal. Here’s a trick I came up with to make my editing easier. I could usually “feel” when a section didn’t go right. I give a long pause then redo it right then! When I get to editing, it created a built in a place to “cut” out the part that didn’t go well. It made my editing go much faster!

Im into video production. A client wanted me to shoot his small star rated hotel. He doesnt want a model/ actor etc. That's ok i understand if he doesnt want to spend on that (to each his own).......... But he wants STORY to the video. Im of the opinion that we can only do a promo/showcase video style, like what is done on real-estate videos, BBC wildlife documentaries (ofcourse even there one can weave a story speaking for the animals like david attenborough does) but restaurant videos/real estate etc, ESP WHEN YOU SAY NO HUMAN AT ALL IN THE VIDEO. I think no story is possible without a human element in the video right ?

Do we need a script even if its a no dialogue promotional video ? Say...something like this.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uVyBNJKNieU.html Im imagining this only needs a shot list/shot -scene sequence on paper and maybe a storyboard. Most of what im seeing even here on this video is DIALOGUE and DIALOGUE PLACEMENT OVER TIME.
