This is true. Prospective applicants need to take note in order to stand out as a diligent applicant. Also always keep the email logical and professional, don’t sound desperate. Simple English and no need for big big grammar. Don’t use same email for all schools you’re applying to. Draft each email for each school. Thanks for uploading 😊
I am a recent graduate, and I just wanted to say that your videos truly have helped me debunk a lot of things I was confused about. Thank you for your content and I hope your channel keeps growing. We need more people like you on this platform!
"Hype the professor", "do not send the first email with attachment(s)". Tips received with gratitude. Dr. Ann, thank you so much for these priceless tips! Warm regards
Thank you Prof Ann. I honestly can't thank you enough, I strictly followed your advice on sending a cold mail. It was truly helpful, i finallyyyyy got a supervisor agree to supervise my research all thanks to you. Now I'm moving on to the application phase (watching your graduate school videos) thank you, Prof. Please keep up the good work.
Luckily for u ma'am. I followed Prof Ann's tips on drafting a cold email too and i got a response from a Professor at a Canadian University. I've had a Zoom interview with him and, I must admit that the interview went well ( I'd rate myself at 81%😊). 4 weeks after the interview I messaged him and this was his reply "Thanks for your message. I am still in the process of getting the funding for graduate students. Cheers! " Its approaching application deadline and I've still not heard from him now. His approval is also a prerequisite for the application process. I could prolly fund myself so can I message him of my intention to do so? Or I should still wait ? Please I need y'all inputs. Or could it be that he's no more taking me?
Hello Dr Ann, I just came across your channel today and I love your content and as a Nigerian looking forward to studying in the US, it is really needed. Thank you for the videos they are very helpful and I appreciate it. Subscribed already!
Hello Dr. Anna, This video is truly impactful and I appreciate all the efforts you put to make a video regardless of your schedule. I love your smile and I can't believe I am just seeing this video.
WoW!!! I love this video. Thanks for your impact Dr. Ann. I know better now than ever. You're naturally beautiful Prof. I love your accent and dentition.
I love your videos. This is the second one I have watched thus far but I find them so informative. Thank you so much for making them, they truly are a godsend!
Soo true! For spellings, it good to use grammarly to check. It has a free version . Also in order to avoid lengthy emails, it’s good to space each line/paragraph so that one can easily pick out things from the email from just glancing through it. Never knew about the yahoo mail thing. I would ensure that I start using gmail to send emails. In Gods hands 😂😂😂? How do people even do that . Nice content 👍
Thank you so much for this guide. I used it and got a response within 3 days. Though it wasn't a positive response, I was really happy because it was my first response. I would like you to please consider doing a video on responses or replies to either a positive or negative mail from professors. You are really making an impact.
Dr. Ann thank you so much for your time, This video holds a wealth of knowledge. It is packed with so many unique and useful tips! I really appreciate your dedication to helping us succeed, it is heartwarming! :)
Amazing Video. Before watching this video, someone advised me about always using a Gmail account to email professors which I did two days ago, I got a response that same day, another response the following day. Oh I also appreciated the professor for his time too. Seeing you talk about it here is more helpful.meanwhile he said he hope to see me in Fall 2023.♥️
Hi Professor Ann First I want to thank you for your channel, which has been a source of inspiration, information and guidelines for me. I have watched all your videos and it has give me insights on how to go about graduate school. My name is Tracy I’m from Nigeria I want to earn a degree in women’s and gender studies from a Canadian university. I will be grateful and indebted if you consider me as one of your beneficiary of the free consultation , CV and statement review giveaway. Thank you Professor Ann for all that you do and more success to you.
Now I know why my mail to Dr Ann was not replied, I did not follow any of the tips here. Thank you so much Ma for this, I will rewrite my mail according to the tips you have provided. God bless you.
Thank you Prof for this information, although I have a question regarding the attachment. Most schools on their webpages ask prospective candidates to mail Professors and attach CV and/or transcripts. Confused right now.
These are really helpful tips, Dr. Ann, and thank you for sharing them. I have a few questions, please. 1. Is it appropriate to inquire about funding opportunities in this first correspondence or leave that to a second correspondence? 2. What is the goal of the first email? I mean, is it only to complement the professor on their work and express my similar interest in that area of focus? 3. Assuming the correspondence goes well, is it appropriate to ask the prof to advise me on what to improve on to have an advantage with the decision board? 4. When is the appropriate time to start emailing professors? Is a year to the application too early? Do I wait until six months to the application? I'm assuming corresponding only when applying feels rushed, but I'd like to know your take. Thank you in advance.
I am sorry for just responding to your question. I just saw it! 1)Leave it to the second correspondence 2) The goal is to introduce yourself and ask if they are accepting students. 3)No need for that. If the prof is interested in you, they will let the admissions committee know. 4)As early as possible, so that you can secure a spot. hope these help :)
Your videos are so enlightening Professor Ann, thank you for this. I’m looking to apply for masters in Microbiology and immunology in the U.S, some schools advised that I must find a supervisor who will be willing to work with me before they can accept my application, please is this the kind of email I need to send to the professors?
Wow Learned a lot from this, You are amazing. Thanks Dr. Ann❤❤. Also, Name: Oyelakin Valentina Country: Nigeria Course of study: Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Artificial Intelligence). Thank you once again❤❤.
Good day, Dr. Ann. Thank you for this video, it has been very helpful. I have some questions though: If you are sending an email to different professors, should you let them know about this (that you are contacting other professors)? If asked to give a specific project outline that you could work on or are interested in, and you have 2 top topics on your mind that you would like to explore, could you send the 2 topics or what do you advise?
Hi Dr. Ann, thank you for this video; helpful as always. I want to ask how to address a Graduate Counselor when writing a mail bearing in mind you don't want to address them by titles they don't bear?
Thank you so much for this, Dr. Ann. I have been sending email requests for assistantship positions with my resume attached (I learnt from other sources that one should definitely attach one's resume to an introductory email for assistantship position requests). Thank you for the bonus tips! I see these increasing my response yield. Please wish me luck in securing an assistantship position.
Thanks so much Dr Ann for this video. I need to know your opinion however on writing different prospective supervisors in the same faculty. Like, if i intend to study Epidemiology in University of Alabama. , would it be alright to contact more than one Professor ??
Dr. Ann you are doing a great job here, congratulations. I emailed a professor for funding and he accepted my request but I don't have the money to pay for application fee, please what should I do?
