In 1979, Gloria DeHaven, along with Milton Berle, Donald O'Connor, Forrest Tucker, George Jessel & numerous other performances, came to Hauppauge, NY, to give a wonderful vaudevillian show! At about 49 then, she wore a 'slinky' black dress & still looked fantastic as she talked with fans, after the show! Beautiful lady! R.I.P.
Instead of a bio of Gloria de Haven, this seems more like a slam job on Tony Curtis. Surely he didn't have THAT much influence on the course of her life.
You underestimate how girls were raised back then, that they were told if they were rejected that there was something wrong with them. I am old enough to remember those days. Girls were supposed to be Pure, good character, and hard working, and they weren’t supposed to complain or stick up for themselves. So, you get a person like Tony Curtis who uses people, it’s at direct odds with what the girl expected. He hurt her deeply, and she didn’t understand why she wasn’t worth enough for him to stay. I guess I can’t explain why some are more sensitive than others, but thank goodness girls are brought up to be a little stronger now. There is now more information about social aspects of relationships. Girls now no longer blame themselves for everything.
Best Foot Forward, Two Girls And A Sailor, Broadway Rhythm, Summer Holiday, Summer Stock, So This Is Paris....I really can appreciate Gloria DeHaven's talent in musical films. I wish Hollywood studios had taken more advantage of her. She needed to become a big musical star in some blockbusters. Oh well, that's Hollywood's loss!!!
Actually what Tony Curtis said about Marilyn Monroe when they were making the movie some like it hot when they had a kissing scene was, "Kissing her ( Marilyn) is like kissing Hitler." Years later he kept denying it but co-star Jack lemmon who also co-starred in that movie with Curtis said it was true. Jack lemon said I don't know why he said it but he said it.

"rumour has it he and Natalie Wood had an affair" could be inserted into a LOT of biographies. Not that I am implying all or any are true, just that rumours about the poor woman are legion.
